Link to trope

So, what exactly is the distinction between this trope and a genuine Badass that happens to be in a work aimed at children? Despite the "children's shows suck" mentality the article comes across as having, it's entirely possible for children's works to include actual Badasses. I'm curious where we're supposed to draw the line.

I think the point is that a work strongly aimed at children to qualify for the trope doesn't have enough violent or scary content to permit someone to be a real Badass. In short, the work treats him as a badass but he doesn't do anything typically associated with that role; he's only tough or strong in relationship to the other characters.

You know, the trope badass should be renamed tough guy. Doesn't even need a female redirect. Action Girl is there already and not nearly as abused. This trope is pointless. Badass but less so.

Y'know, I totally get this trope, and I don't understand the confusion. Definitely a YMMV, though, so if it's not already marked as one, someone should probably do it.

At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff...
