...man. all the more reason to be cynical about the internet. I just saw an adbot ad for "Mission accomplished" Tshirts with Osama's face on them and the date of his death >>.

Bet we'll hear next about some T-shirt maker renting a russian sub to find the body and take a few photos. Hey, if there is enough pre-orders, I'm sadly certain someone would try this..... I mean, 10 bucks a T-Shirt, and with a few millions of them, the cut would be enough to convince Putin to send a DSRV there.

So, anyone wants to get TV Tropes funded for the next fifty years?

Step 1: OSB killed Step 2: Start a rumor about T-Shirts Step 3: ??? Step 4: PROFIT!

[up][up][up][up]This was a good choice, imo. Hopefully sometime in the distant future they'll be released via FOIA or something, though.

I recommend that article, by the way. There are a lot of interesting tidbits in there. Or at least, tidbits that I found interesting (I'm weird like that).

Oh, looks like I'm late to the party again. Ninja'd several times. Oh well.

Congress to Examine "Inappropriate" use of "Geronimo" Codename in bin Laden Mission

Wow, that's fucking retarded.

Yes, the military are insensitive. Just to stay consistent, I'd like to say that we don't give a shit if people think we're insensitive.

For heavens sake, the military use irreverent code-names all the time, what makes this different? Because its an unusually high-profile bastard who got killed?

The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.

[up] Yes. And seriously what are they gonna do about it? Fine the military?

Also I'm glad they aren't releasing the images. They would just fan the flames, and people would call them fake anyway.

They already are. 400 Billion being taken from the defense budget has been proposed.

No, just as general cuts. We're all a little apprehensive as to what it is exactly they want to cut.

I really don't want a repeat of when Clinton neutered the military.

Yeah, peace and prosperity sucks. Spending more money on the military than the next ten countries COMBINED is the only way to ensure safety and security. /s

We can at least make smart cuts first instead of making life a living hell for our soldiers even more.

I agree we need to drastically cut back but priorities need to be put in place first.

I say random dartboard cuts would stand just as much a chance of being good for this country as what we're going to get.

I won't even insist on the Pentagon being the Bullseye.

A small one would be less outsourcing. The military can afford to fund its own rations, but instead makes deals with fast food franchises to feed the soldiers overseas.

I suspect your post will get thumped by a moderator pretty soon, so I'll simply note that your outrage seems to be driven by your own emotional stakes, rather than the cold logic of the facts. Don't assume you're the only Troper affected by cuts to the military budget...

I'd appreciate your facts more if you didn't spout them with venomous and insulting sarcasm every time you're commenting on something that doesn't coincide with your own agenda.

Like I said, I'm ok with reducing spending, but I don't trust the government cut the right things because of lobbyist interference at the topmost levels of government. We'll keep expensive R&D projects for crap we'll never use, but cut soldiers, which takes their livelihood from them and doesn't save all that much money by comparison.

I noted that this is what Clinton did, and you obviously were rather offended that I criticized the way Clinton handled defense cuts. He handled them poorly even if he still attained the objective.
