So what would life be like on a base on Ceres? Quick facts:

  • Day: 9 hours
  • Year: 4.6 Earth years
  • Radius: 300 miles (circumference 1800 miles)
  • Gravity: 0.03 g (3% of Earth gravity)
  • Average temperature: -150 degrees F

The length of the day would probably be irrelevant, except for agriculture. But again, hydroponics. But the microgravity is going to be extremely hard with current-ish technology (we don't know how to counteract it for a great amount of time—leading to osteoroposis, muscle atrophy and such).

Depends on how you build your base. Some ideas I've seen involve hollowing out the inside and inflating it like a balloon.

Random fact: Concorde is fast enough to reach Ceres' escape velocity.

Random fact #2: Ceres is roughly at the lower limit for celestial bodies to hold atmosphere.
