Hi! I had this topic in mind when I had "My Own Home" (from "The Jungle Book") stuck in my head (I was doing the dishes, after all). I don't listen to Disneymania much, but I can definitely think of songs that, no matter how much someone tries to jazz them up with layered vocals and electronic beats, simply should NOT be covered. Ever.

For those who don't know, Disneymania is a series of albums where various Disney songs are redone by various pop/rock/R&B artists. Sometimes, these songs may be ones that were written specifically because the movie makers just needed some modern song for the movie (ex. "Never Knew I Needed" by Ne-Yo).

This topic can cover more than just songs that should never be covered. You can also talk about songs that you think should be covered (that haven't been covered already) or existing covers that should have not been covered at all or ones that you thought wouldn't turn out well at first but weren't so bad after all. Another question: are there songs that you think the Disney artists cover too much?

I can imagine a good cover of "My Own Home". It just wouldn't involve layered vocals or electronic beats.

It's one of those songs that needs to be treated with sensitivity, and also one where you have to be mindful of the original context (so you couldn't just release it as a single and expect it to chart, for instance).

Belle. Just no. The only good cover of that song I've heard is the Darren Criss cover.

Poor Unfortunate Souls is a classic, and I personally think it shouldn't be messed with.

Don't f*ck with "Prince Ali," "Be Prepared," or "I'll Make a Man Out of You"

Jonas Brothers did that one.

My favourite is Michael Bolton's version of "Go the Distance". I think it's been covered for one of these albums, but I'm not sure who's done it.

Be Prepared

The problem here is that all the artists I can think of that could do it right wouldn't show up on Disneymania.

I think Lucas Grabeel (High School Musical's Ryan) covered "Go the Distance" for one of the albums.

[up][up]Yeah, it's Hercules' "I Want" Song in the film. I like the Michael Bolton version best, though.

Prety much every Villain Song. Everything from Aladdin other than A Whole New World, anything other than A Guy Like You from Hunchback, and...that's about it.

If they count, Nobody Else But You from A Goofy Movie and anything from The Brave Little Toaster. Hey, they did a Pixar song, so they aren't completely out of the question.

I'd like to say the song from Monsters, Inc., but I think it was covered by two of the co-stars from Hannah Montana.

You know, I think my childhood will end if they cover the theme of Winnie The Pooh. I really doubt they will, but you never know...

I'll also be pretty mad if they cover "Friends From The Other Side".

Funny, aside from my first choice, those are second and third in the "don't touch these you wretched bastards!" queue.

I dont want "Stand out" or even "eye to eye" covered by somebody who doesn't know what they are doing. It would just set me off up in flames if Bieber of all people was going to do that.

Screamin' Jay Hawkins should totally have covered Aristocats - Everybody Wants To Be A Cat.

He would've made it beyond awesome.

[up][up][up][up][up] I found out today that Zooey Deschanel is covering "Winnie the Pooh" for the new Winnie the Pooh movie coming out in July, but I don't whether the rendition will be on Disneymania or not.

@Smasher ('"Hellfire", for obvious reasons.')

[up]

That would automatically be the funniest Disney song cover in history. Just picture any R&B singer doing it! [lol]
