"Most intelligent people don't," Seth replied, "Those that are able to enjoy their work are the ones too dull to understand it's nature."
"I prefer a cockpit to a desk," Ray replied, "Any day. War is horrible but better to understand the horrors and the blood than to avert your eyes and pretend it isn't happening."
"My story?" Vinny stared thoughtfully at the glowing ember on the tip of his tobacco. "Well, I grew up on Illion Prime, I guess. It's a nice, urbane planet. A little boring, but it's home. At least, that's how I think of it now. Back then, I felt... stifled, so me and a couple of like-minded friends took off like a trio of musketeers for the military academy on Dauston, hoping to make something of ourselves. Well, they went first, actually. I was the youngest...
"Anyway, we went through the academy, and after graduation they stationed me on Aeris. Except for regular leave, I've been here ever since. Sometimes I wonder why I was never deployed anywhere else, but I don't mind."

Meanwhile...
"Well now," Lucie looked over at Gen, "You're in a rather interesting company."
"The Jokers," Ivan piped up, "You can just do as you please."
"What Ivan means to say," Ray continued, "Is that Minene had... a history with Charlot, just like the rest of us company commanders. Without her, you're group is something of a wild card."

"It's a wonder that Charlot isn't stepping up and taking responsibility for them," Ray spoke up, "Make this his personal company rather than flying alone."
"You know how it is," Lucy replied, "He may surround himself with high airs and ideals but deep down he's no different than Corto. It's why the two get on so well."
Ivan just tilted his head and Seth ate his meal quietly.
"That's true, and I do love the planet, but..." Vinny let out a puff of smoke. "I feel like, as a Knight, I ought to be sent to where I'm needed, not just where I'm comfortable. There's no point in sending me back to the same place again and again if I could be out on the front instead, doing something of real use." He smiled wryly. "Although it looks like the front came to me anyway, so maybe it's a moot point. I'm not even sure if I should be thinking about that, now that I am where I am. I've got a company to look after now, right?"
The PI chewed the end of his cigarillo nervously for half a moment. "Do you mind if I ask you for some advice, Sir?"

"It's about Jad- Knight Descartes, I mean. Well, more the company as a whole, actually. I don't know your personal feelings on the matter, Sir, but my sense is that she realizes how damaging her recklessness has been, and she's going to carry that guilt with her for a very long time, rightfully so. But while I expect her to learn from her mistakes, I don't want it to cause her to stop taking any risks at all, or for her to feel like she's being ostracized by her own company. I want both her and Kwon to know that, but both of them are difficult for me to get a read on, so I'm not sure how to go about it.
"If I don't clear the air about this with them, I'm afraid that it might continue to fester and damage the company. At the same time, if I press them to talk about it too hard or in the wrong way, I might cause the very thing I'm trying to avoid. What do you think I should do, Sir?"

You've been placed in command of a unit that I doubt can be commanded. And I doubt our dear commander will try to; Jeanne reminds him too much off Minene. At least the Minene who he first met. Nonsense really," He smiled, "For all his ideals, he still fears her."
Meanwhile...
A young girl, who didn't look a day past 15, yet was surely at least 17 and wearing the latest Gothssetian over her uniform grabbed Jacques by the ear,
"Come now," She said with a smirk, "You're meeting your cousin if I have to drag you to her."
Before he was able to reply, they spotted Jeanne on the way to the mess hall.
"Go on," The pilot said, still smiling, "Don't make me chaperone to make sure you two actually talk."

Jeanne sighed, and looked her cousin in the eye. "You look well, Jacques."
TVTropes Nuzlocke Thread. - Arceus Help Us All."Hrm." Vinny began to unconsciously clasp his hands, nodding with brow furrowed in a classic pose as he took in Corto's advice. It was the look of a Private Eye pondering a particularly difficult nut to crack. "I see. I don't understand, though. I mean, I admit I know next to nothing about the Silver Comet, but why would fearing someone like Lt. Jose or Descartes clash with his ideals, whatever they are?"

TVTropes Nuzlocke Thread. - Arceus Help Us All."Jeez," Adele shook her head, "Some family you too are. Appreciate each other and stuff!"
"Afraid not," Shang said, with a smirk, his hair tied back, "It is time for our meeting."
Around him were his personal guard: Keith "Black Sympathy" Jagger, Petya "Blue Eyes" Daltray and Nina "Red Dawn" Strelnikov.
In minutes, 5 minutes prior to the set meeting time, everyone had assembled.
"Hello. As you are well aware, the Federation have landed. They are host to numbers significantly higher than our own. As such we will be fighting on the Defencive. You have seen every filthy trick these Federation Dogs are capable of, you are equally aware that we can and shall repay them ten fold. We have bought every metre of his planet with our blood. Let us make them pay by the Centimetre. Since the attack our ranks have only grown; the arrival of Charlot," He looked at the Silver Comet with a smirk that implied at once distrust yet advantage, "means that these curs will have to claw their way through their dead before they make gains. The Centauri may be spread thin now, but as they push us back, dwindling in numbers, drowning in sweat and bloody, they will find only more Centauri. Fresh to the fight and thirsty for vengeance."

Vinny stood much like a statue, silently and respectfully listening to Shang's rant. It was a pretty good speech, he supposed, and he did feel a little inspired, but he wasn't about to start cheering unless someone else did it first. Besides which, something was bugging him about the Captain's demeanor. Why distrust his own subordinate? It just didn't make any sense.

"Hail Boniface!"
"Hail Lord Shang!"
The shouts from the familiar parts of his battalion rung out.
"That is all. You are dismissed. Rest well. Tomorrow we hold Russo."
Shang stepped down from the podium, his troop of bodyguards following. Then his officers. Char stood alone on the Podium, until Ray and Lucy came up for him. Corto stood in the back smoking.
Adele walked up behind Jeanne.
"You really should be nicer to family you know," She shook her head, "I get you haven't seen him in years... I mean that should count for something, right?"

"You did well out there," He said, "What's your story?"
Meanwhile...
"You're from Neutral right?" Lucie said to Gen, "What's the story over there?"
