He paused again.
"Zimman, David. Argyris, Harold. Thorgimm, Liefsson. Atli, Liefsson."
"Guillory, Charles. You are to report to me as the new commander of the 5th Battalion."
Next morning [Further Details Pending]
The new Battalion had hardly been given time realize it had been formed before people started retiring to sleep. It had been a long day and the next one promised to be every bit as long.
Vinny and his company were given the morning shift of guard duty and were to report to their frames for 9 on the dot.
Meanwhile...
Others would be getting up then as well, and hurrying to the mess hall if they were to hope to get a decent breakfast.
Ellen awoke early the next morning, quietly giddy over the fact that she had finally been assigned to a squad. She had been waiting for this chance, the chance to serve her country and bring glory to her home, for years, and had been training for it almost as long.
After getting dressed, and spending several minutes ensuring that her uniform was worn neatly and properly, without any faults, she proceeded to the mess hall for, hopefully, a few strawberries and a meal. Failing that, she would just eat whatever slop they usually served the military.
Grabbing her food (which, to her eternal disappointment, contained nary a redheaded fruit), she took her seat and began digging in to the... whatever it was.
I am become Death, Destroyer of Miniputts.A young blond haired, blue eyed man of what looked to be Federation descent and likely some sort of Scandinavian breed, walked to towards Ellen with a tray. He was holding the tray with only his right arm, letting his left sag by his side.
"You're Dame Daugherty, right?" He said with something of an awkward formal smile.

"Me?" Ellen asked, looking up from her food. "Yes,I would be. What business is it of yours?"
She scanned the guy carefully, wondering where he came from. He looked like one of those people from Earth, probably from one of those places... Mexico or China, or something like that...
I am become Death, Destroyer of Miniputts."Not at all," Ellen replied, turning her attention back to her food.
For the first time in a while, Ellen was wishing she'd paid closer attention in her Intergalactic Studies class, especially the part about Earth. From what she could remember, her textbooks said modern Earth was a dangerous, unpredictable planet, just like the people that lived there. A lot of the people, being citizens of the Federation, were nymphomaniacs and psychopaths, according to the rumors she'd heard. Maybe not as bad as the Illionese (or maybe they were!), but what if this one was no different?
Although she hadn't said another word, Ellen began sweating profusely, watching the other person out of the corner of her eye.

I am become Death, Destroyer of Miniputts.Salvec awoke a tad late, his eyes clearly holding a look of a lack of sleep. Forcing himself out of bed, he rummaged through his stuff until he found his uniform, to which he then proceeded to put it on. Shaking his head, straightening himself, and checking to see if his uniform was in order, he lazily walked out of the barracks and towards the mess hall... hoping to get some high-class bacon and some delicious waffles.
Much to his surprise, there was no high class bacon, or delicious waffles. Cursing at the chefs, which included making crude insults to their families and their upbringing as soldiers, Salvec slowly surveyed the hall, looking for a spot to which he could sit down and eat.
Finding an empty spot by a young woman and a young blonde man with blue eyes, Salvec cheerily walked over towards the two. Coming towards Ellen and Holden, Salvec gave off a large smile before he spoke. "Hello there, I am Salvec Quewin of Prussia company, do you two mind if I take a seat here?"
"What the hell are you doing?" "I'm playing a role, sir, what are you doing?"It's around 0800. Probably. Without bothering to check any of his various time-keeping devices, detective Vinicio Merlo strolls casually into the public mess and scours around for his new company, which may or may not still be named Noir. He doesn't feel like launching into an extended monologue today, because he didn't sleep too well last night. Besides, do it too often and you wear out the novelty of the damn things.
"So, your name's Salvec, eh? Good to know. Daugherty, I don't think we've been properly introduced. I'm Vinicio Merlo, your CO. Call me Vinny." Vinny blithely took a seat beside the blond pilot, nodding at him. "Holden. How's the arm holding up?"

GM: AGOG S4 & F/WC RP; Co-GM: TABA, SOTR, UUA RP; Sub-GM: TTS RP. I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new Empire."Ahh, err," Ellen uhhs, as more people join them.
"Pleased to meet you," she says in reply, not looking at either of them in order to speak to both of them, before tacking on a "sir" at the end out of deference to her CO.
Not wanting to draw too much attention to herself, she begins eating once more.
I am become Death, Destroyer of Miniputts."You sure like saying 'you know' a lot, Mr. Holden," said Salvec as he took a seat by Ellen. Placing his tray down, he began messing with his food, turning it over and what not as he examined the slop he was about to eat. Shivering at the thought of the food entering his mouth, he glanced over at Ellen, and gave off a rather dumbfound type of look.
"Uh, Miss Daugherty," Salvec slightly tilted his head as he noticed her nervousness, "you're looking rather... sweaty. Are you... alright?"
"What the hell are you doing?" "I'm playing a role, sir, what are you doing?""Uh huh... Sure you are..." replied Salvec as he patted Ellen on the back before going back to messing with his meal.
Looking up, and at Holden, he raised his eyebrow. "Unless a Miss Vale and a Mr. Zolnerowich are in your company, then I'm not... although that doesn't necessarily mean we cannot interact with and get to know one another, yes?"

"What the hell are you doing?" "I'm playing a role, sir, what are you doing?""Well, maybe it's a little odd for folks from completely different battalions to be so familiar, but I ain't got nothing against it." Vinny shrugged, then frowned as the table lapsed into an uncomfortable silence. "Anyway, our shift's at 0900. How about you and Morgan, Salvec?"
GM: AGOG S4 & F/WC RP; Co-GM: TABA, SOTR, UUA RP; Sub-GM: TTS RP. I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new Empire.Morgan arrived at the mess hall later than many, dressed in civilian garb. She'd left the base early and picked up a meal from one of the local shops. It had been tempting to spend the morning there, but even a brief conversation would be enough to give away her association with the occupying forces. Besides which, too many people were already on edge since before the relocation. If something blew up she'd rather be in the base than outside of it. Metaphorically, at least.
She spied Vinny and Salvec at one of the tables, then recognized one of their dining companions as a member of her old flight. She still didn't want to relive memories of their desperate retreat, let alone any awkwardness from the fact that she'd been avoiding him this long already. Instead she found a mostly vacant area and sat down with her locally prepared and rapidly cooling meal.
"As far as I know, we don't have anything going on today. Then again, I don't pay too much attention whenever Charlot speaks... I can never wrap my head around anything that guy is saying," sighed Salvec as he picked up his food with his fork... somewhat tempted to see how far it would fly if he flung it.
And then, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a familiar black-haired girl that took a somewhat vacant table with her food. "Speaking of Morgan..." grinned Salvec as he stood up. "Morgan! What are you doing over there all by your lonely self, come over here!" shouted the blonde young man as a few people turned their heads and looked over at him before rolling their eyes and carrying on with their own business.
"What the hell are you doing?" "I'm playing a role, sir, what are you doing?"Morgan cringed upon Salvec's voice shouting across the room at her. Was he trying to cause problems or was he really too dense to realize she'd sat alone on purpose? She was 'saved' by Charlot's approach and could only smile wryly at his request. One didn't simply tell a superior to sit elsewhere, even if she somehow had jurisdiction over the table. He was being unnecessarily polite which managed to put her more on edge.
"Yes, of course." She replied instantly, all those thoughts whirring in the back of her head.
Vinny frowned a little at Charlot's request, but nodded. "Sure thing." Returning his attention to his company, he decided to go for an icebreaker. The burgeoning silence was beginning to remind him uncomfortably of Gen, Jeanne, and Jacques' stone-like dispositions. "So, Holden's an Edenite, and I'm Illionese... How about you, Daughterly? Where're you from?"

Following alongside Nikolai, Salvec was relieved that he was not being ignored. At least now he has someone on his team whom he can talk to with without having the temptation to start an argument. "I can't say I've been here long, for I haven't. To be quite honest I was just transferred to this battalion the other day. I was kinda disliking the idea of being here since I wasn't getting along all that well with the other members, but I have to admit that I'm glad that you're here now."
"Oh," Salvec placed his hands behind his head as he continued walking, "If you don't mind me asking, what did you do before coming here? I'd like to know a bit more about my fellow brother-in-arms if that's alright with you."
"What the hell are you doing?" "I'm playing a role, sir, what are you doing?"
