12 is impossible even with this rushed pacing. There will be more for sure.

Also not a fan of this Ichigo/Ryo shipping but eh whatever.

Why is Ichigo the only one that gets heavy handed animal traits again? Mint should be getting wings, Zakuro claws, etc. Let the others have some fun.

7. I don't remember the details of Aoyama finding out originally, but I really hope he's just playing dumb to be polite to Ichigo this time. She wasn't even trying to hide her identity.

As a fan of animal-based special forms and superpowers, I completely agree.

10. While everyone else is scrambling to avert a major gas attack that could kill thousands, Ichigo is busy sleeping with her boyfriend. Yeah that tracks.

12. Shocked that they let Mint get center spotlight for the final battle. She's really been the ace of the series. Final fight was pretty good overall. The romance stuff felt rather disconnected though.

Overall, this feels like a pretty good distilled adaptation for the most part. Take what works, get rid of the filler, and smooth out the rough edges. The plot itself is still basic, I don't get the point of the cafe, and saving the animals by punching aliens doesn't feel like it links together very well, but those aren't big issues at the end of the day.

Ichigo herself is a decent lead, being endearing without completely stealing the show from her friends. Her relationship with Aoyama isn't awful. Kisshu is just treated as a creepy stalker and not a serious romantic love interest. Shirogane is the actual weakpoint, being treated more seriously even though he's an ass. Mint is the big highlight, getting the lion's share of the non-Ichigo screen-time and has a decent arc to go along with it. Lettuce is pretty good as well. Sadly Zakuro doesn't get much, though she and Mint do have a pretty defined relationship at least. Poor Bu-Ling doesn't get anything.

Hopefully those two get treated better in season 2 Spring 2023.

The action was pretty good in this episode.

And we're back. Really not keeping that thing a secret. Nice to see Mint and Zakuro still paired up. I'm just wondering if Mint will steal the show again, or if Bu-Ling will get anything.

I'm genuinely convinced the writers really wished Mint was the main character, so they're compensating by giving her as much stuff as they can get away with. Meanwhile I've gotten sick of the Aoyama/Blue Knight stuff keeping Ichigo from doing anything of note. Hopefully that's over and done with.

Now that you mention it, yeah Mint has been getting a lot of the spotlight.

Thousands are dead among the rubbles of Tokyo, and all anyone cares about is how sad Ichigo is about her boyfriend being evil. Mint continues to be the heart of the show.

Yeeeeeah I had to raise an eyebrow at that.

Aoyama remains the absolute worst. I'm only half-joking.

I really tried to like/tolerate Aoyama, and he's probably slightly better than he was in the original anime, but he just completely drains the show's energy when he's on-screen, no matter which form he's taking.

I for one approve of Ichigo standing awkwardly to the side while her stalker gets himself killed.

God this is good shit.

Didn't realize Ichigo was anti-immigrant. Ending was mostly fine, but since it focused on Ichigo and Aoyama I was mostly checked out.

Overall I'd call New pretty decent. Certainly better than what Sailor Moon got. Decently paced, and everyone got some time to shine. Mostly Mint. Very little Zakuro. The main couple made me glad that romance has mostly disappeared from modern magical girls. First season was really helped by how dull Pretty Cure was at the time, but now that Pretty Cure is good again TMMN had to be good on its own merits. Which it mostly was when Aoyama was out of the picture, but he's so dull he dragged down Ichigo. Nothing amazing, but I'm glad it got the chance to be revived with some modern polish.
