Not to insult Eddie's programming ability or anything, but this is a fairly barebones forum compared to, say, forums such as Bulbagarden and Serebii that are powered by vBulletin software. They'll tell you when a user was last online or the time of their last forum activity, what thread they're viewing, whether if they're writing a post/PM/whatever, and there's a more comprehensive 'Find post by user' function that also includes threads they've started. Stuff like that is mainly why I occasionally miss my Bulbagarden days, not because I liked the community or anything.
Turning off gingerbread mainly turns off avatars and other things that can slow down weaker browsers or visually get in the way.

"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."The forum already tracks when your IP is active in accessing it, it wouldn't know how to label your posts as you otherwise or whether you have gingerbread on or off or spoilers or etc., from there it's not hard to track when you were online as opposed to when you were not, without relying on you to log out.
So basically you're proposing an obstacle that really isn't.

Nous restons ici.Out for the night. Ozzy may be slow to respond for the next 6-8 hours.
EDIT: In for the day.

They'll turn your world aroundI'd really like to join University now, but I still have no idea how it's all put together. Can someone give me a rundown of where everything is, where everyone is (and which of them seem to be still active), and where it might be best to introduce my characters?

Wasn't sure about that. Too bad there aren't status posts where people can check up on everything. Ah well. Oswald is wearing a large hood if that's any excuse.

I won't lie, I'm really glad I only have one character in a relative quiet zone right now. Totally lost track of the rest again over the weekend, but the Auditorium is playing host to Shamsiel (who looks like an ordinary man with a guitar), Kit (fox/human hybrid from a medieval world), Sora (man from modern Japan carrying a sketch book), Adel (modern medic armored for a warzone, though Gault's been missing a while so she's in limbo), and a thus far unnamed, masked soldier of Victorian-style clothing who is so bloodied and shot up he should be dead.

By reviewing the last three pages I have arrived at this.
Linna (me) and Jeremiah (Tera Chimera) are in an indeterminate Hallway, discussing werewolves, their probable location, and how this appears to be someone's idea of a university but not an actual university, or alternately someone's idea of a horror movie setting.
Loyce (Ysa Slayer of Sporks), some drunk guy (Dvdmacyoshi, who hasn't named this character yet), Ozzy (Ryuhza), Gerald (Matues), Tyler (Mr AHR), and Horatio (Darkblood Carnagefang, who may or may not still be active) are in the Courtyard, where it may or may not be raining, and have not necessarily formed a focus; there's some interaction between different individuals, and the obligatory questions regarding the metal spike through a burned book (see Library, to which this area is directly adjacent).
Shamsiel (Killer Clowns), Sora (Crystal Glacia), and some soldier (whom Snowy Foxes hasn't named) are in an Auditorium, which is apparently set up for a play; probably Shakespeare, but maybe not. So far they're exploratory of the area around them rather than having formed a focus. I think.
Violet and Vince (Crystal Glacia), Cyrus (Snowy Foxes) are in a Lab, building some sort of device using runes as a general focus, but Violet is drawing and there are individual interactions going on as well.
Tina and the currently fainted Maxwell (Diurnal Brocolli), Prisha (Pyscho Frea X), Rachel (Yomegami), Scout (chihuahua 0), Nathan (Masterofchaos) and Peter (Dvdmacyoshi) are in the Library. They have previously engaged in ritual destruction of a copy of Twilight, and the Young Adult or Romance section. What these (and the later-mentioned presence of several popular manga) were doing in a university library is unexplained (see also possibly the musings in the Hallway), although there was discussion on the subject's correctness. The remains of this can be seen both here and in the Courtyard. Currently there's a discussion of manga going on, I think. The Library denizens do not appear to necessarily form a coherent single grouping, though. (See also Courtyard, to which this area is directly adjacent.)
I am forgetting at least one person but Nightmare 24 has stubbornly left his/her location tags off, so I am unable to discern where Doltur is supposed to be.

Nous restons ici.I'm still new to these, so- to get a general idea- is this (the University) proceeding slower than average?
They'll turn your world around![]()
Yeah, it's a little slow, but summertime tends to be slow for Writer's Block and possibly even the TV Tropes community in general. Most of the community consists of students, and summer is the time when these students are most likely to devote extended periods of time to doing shit with their lives, usually extra summer courses or a job. Ironically, it usually moves faster during the school year, probably because when you're bored in class or done with homework and probably have your computer out anyway, why not just head to the internet?

"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."Ah, that makes sense. But damn if I didn't pick a terrible time to start.
They'll turn your world aroundWon't be able to respond till tomorrow, I have work that HAS to be done. I'm past my deadline as it is.
http://www.fictionpress.com/s/3007268/4/The_Legion_of_Justice Superheroes! What could go wrong?

Some forums have a "last online" indicator for users. I had assumed that here it was disabled for me by turning off "forum gingerbread", but from the sound of what Night's saying there isn't one at all here.
