Happy new year, my time zone has a couple of hours to go. We shoved a happy pill down my dog's throat in preparation for the oh-so-scary fireworks, because the local yokels always start setting off fireworks early and they don't give a hoot about scaring little doggies or war veterans or vengeful old ladies with rocks in their purses.

By my calculations, the time it takes Rosalind to drink from multiple moufreta corpses will get her local time zone to catch up to the rest of the story and I can finally silence one alarm in the obsessive corner of my brain.

Speaking of calculations, I'm trying to get a better estimate of how much blood Rosalind will get out of this, my current estimates are really rough. Rosalind arrived in the Adventure thread with 120 hours maximum of fuel from euthanizing a broken-legged horse, the grace period shortens every time she uses her powers excessively. If I can get a better picture of how much blood is in a juvenile moufreta, multiplied by how many usable corpses there are, minus what leaks out of the lethal wounds and what is left behind as dregs, I can make a math equation to calculate how many more hours Rosalind has or how much she can redline her powers before her Horror Hunger reaches critical.

If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.

One of our dogs doesn't deal well with fireworks either. Fortunately the worst of it is over at this point.

By the way nrjxll, I didn't mean for my earlier question to be rhetorical, if it came across that way. I'm not trying to be argumentative, I'd just like to get to the root of Adventure's issues to hopefully figure out a way to improve the thread, especially with the impending soft relaunch.

Edit: But at your leisure, of course.

Edit edit: Happy new years, for real. No fireworks around here, but some good food and good local company.

Aren't fragmented groups an inevitability (or a least a great likelihood) in such a large setting? What would a more preferable group situation look like?

At this point? I honestly don't know. Which is one reason why I'm on board with a smaller setting for the next thread.

Honestly, while I have no desire to cut Adventure short for the people who are still participating in it, I think CDTs do have a natural lifespan, and Adventure's is past. We try to have two threads for a reason.

Right, clearly there remains a handful of us for whom the setting still holds a foreseeably large amount of life, but just as clearly that supposed vitality hasn't drawn in lasting new participants (whether new to the CDTs entirely or simply not involved with Adventure) in a very long time. I'm interested in investigating why that divide exists. I know a lot of folks have left to attend to real life issues, and I often wonder how much of the CDT lull can simply be attributed to these turbulent years we've been living through. In that regard, I suppose launching a new thread could give us a point of comparison and tell us more about the state of the project as a whole.

On the off chance there are any lurkers out there with thoughts on Adventure, where its appeal falters, or some other thing that keeps you from joining, I'd love to hear them.

Happy New Year, everyone.

Juvenile moufreta are based roughly on Deinonychus, so they weigh approximately 160 lbs (73 kg).

Fun Fact: The original size I had for juvenile moufretas would have made them into imbecilic murder turkeys.

Speaking of hematophagia, the following characters may cause issues when donating blood (voluntarily or not) from a purely physiological standpoint: Lerna(divinely toxic), Lily(cold antifreeze), Diantha(see Lily), Carol(turns to metal), and possibly Maelys(undead).

Happy Belated New Year, everyone! Hope people and circumstances work together to make this year a better one.

Since it's supposed to be my turn in Adventure, I'll get to it right away.

Also Ethani (eldritch taint), Luereyathane (biomechanical), Hajnal (demonic), and Gabriel (angelically blessed blood, which might actually be better than normal blood if willingly given).

Any Qorisayane character also has some nanites floating around in their bloodstream, the little blighters get everywhere in Qorisa, but those wouldn't have any effect beyond a slightly "off" taste to the sensitive. (Probably sort of "fishy", that's the default smell/taste I use for Song stuff that they didn't deliberately engineer to be eaten.) Aseyu's Anti-Magic would be a problem for someone biting her, but the blood itself wouldn't carry a charge — though the same cannot be said for those who augment it with Song nanotech, like Alice.

Hey Miss, do you recall if any of the Web of Friendship had told David about Joseph's double previously? I'm leaning on no, but I can't be sure. Well, short of combing back through the thread, but I'd really like not to have to do that.

Mael is, but he has nothing to say. So you guys can just skip him.

[up][up][up] I don't recall either, but if I can scrape up the gung-ho, I could comb through the thread on your behalf.

If Removing the Head or Destroying the Brain doesn't work, what will? There's still plenty of stuff for Seenarnha to try, e.g. an energy sapper.

Hey Miss, I know I said my last post with NCH was the last one until the new launch (that was because I didn't know when you would return) but would you like me to make at least one more post with them? Considering what Arilay said about what Adam *might* plan to do?

[up][up][up] I will work on it when I can.

[up][up]It's a meat puppet powered by eldritch energy. It requires a mostly functional organic material separate from a living organism at the current remote exertion of eldritch energy.

Severe dismemberment, incineration, intense radiation, sufficient freezing, and sapping of said energy would put it down.

Meanwhile, I've got an idea for a character in my universe: a malevolent fae witch who hands out Geas like candy, mainly to make people's lives needlessly complicated. Like being unable to sleep lying down, being unable to accept payment for services, being forced to murder anyone who makes eye contact with you, being forced to eat the corpses of whatever you kill, etc.

[up][up] I am trying to wrap up Web of Friendship for the (in-story) evening, did you have in mind the Hunters just talking among themselves some more or kicking off that next plotline? If it's the former, I don't see why not.

Oh, I was just thinking of the former, but since you're wrapping up WOF's plotline, I won't drag it out too long and just do something for next thread. I have some idea on what I want to do there.

Is your envisioned post something you think Miss's characters would respond to? If not, then I don't see the big issue. Not too much else happening atm.

[up][up][up]

Kind of reminds me of my own Luíseach, who showed up for a bit in Capital City. Though she usually causes mischief to achieve some end (usually to get someone to do something for her in return for relief from whatever malady she's inflicted upon them), rather than for the sake of the act itself.

Might be showing up again soon...

"Ah-hm..." he murmured, one hand pressed against his hip and the other bracing his mouth and whiskers in deep, deep contemplation. "A second Joseph T. Weller. Who encounters your public enemy number one and—somehow—escapes. And now you suspect that he, this Mael, is—as a matter of pride—going to hunt down this Joseph," he gestured at the moping lizard-boy at the far wall, "all the while being pursued by your team and entangling himself with Maya, Amy, Adam, their friends and close relations?"

He rubbed his chin, gazing off in ponderous thought. He clicked his tongue. "Huh. It sounds as though the danger is far more pressing than I'd initially been led to believe. Then I suppose we'll just have to give him a disguise, change his name. Say, fix him up with a straightjacket and he might just pass for an eel. Surely there's a will-warper out there who's made an eel out of some poor sap. Can't be any more outlandish than that story. Honestly, Arilay."

What would happen if Arilay teleported up the other Joseph, or teleported David and Joseph down to the other Joseph, in direct response to David saying this?

David would be convinced of the other Joseph's existence, but will likely remain skeptical of Mael's status as a threat great enough to keep them aboard the Hummingbird (if a younger, even less experienced Joseph was able to evade him).

That at the cost of disrupting the brittle relief younger Joseph (and Henry, by extension) had finally reached. That is, of course, unless the situation was carefully explained to them, but even then I don't know that they'd want to go along with it.

Plus, if either Joseph catches sight of the other, it begs an existential, astronomical crossing that Adventure 1.0 just doesn't have room for.

A lot of cans of worms popping open, I'd say. There's probably a less dramatic way to convince David. With such an exceptional day at the aft, it's mostly the timing and use of the information that's lead to his disbelief.
