That's why I was scolding my muse.
If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.Ah, finally, thank you. And good timing, I just finished my other exam. Hope we can get a better rhythm going from here on, though.
They'll turn your world aroundI hope so too. I finally got a halfway decent night of sleep.
Would Varla saying this be counterproductive?
Well, I don't see it helping matters. That said, I'm not sure I can identify a path to reconciliation aboard the Hummingbird. Not for David, at least.
They'll turn your world aroundWhat if David was offered the chance to kick Arnaya while she's down? Any available Mayatan can walk David through how to rephrase his demands to Arnaya in a way that'll make her listen, a way that involves "the language of violence" as Varla mentioned earlier. But it would have to be a Mayatan and not Varla or Arilay because mental synchronization with David would be needed and Shale is not available.
If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.I don't think so.
David is after escape, not retribution. He wouldn't admit it to himself, but the thing most underlying his indignation is a sense of powerlessness he's had since meeting the Web of Friendship, touching on some particular insecurities and traumatic experiences (the primary of which was brought up close to the end of the previous thread
).
Having to be saved from quicksand was something he could shrug off at the time, but having his argument with Arnaya escalate into a fight he couldn't hope to win, followed by being brought aboard the ship and denied—thus far—his requests to leave, has heightened his emotions and caused him to rethink his entire relationship with the group. And while being given the chance to tip the scales on Arnaya might seem like a way to balance him back out, David is under no illusion that any of it could be done without the express permission and help of the Web of Friendship. Furthermore, it just isn't what he wants, so it won't do anything for his hampered sense of personal autonomy.
They'll turn your world aroundI don't know about David, but Varla wouldn't like that idea. But at least she has an alternative solution.
Varla raised an eyebrow. "You bodyguard? You can't even handle a vampire attack, let alone Mael! You need bodyguards yourself just as much as David does! And if any of your inventions are powered by your defective gems, they're going to need a replacement gem."
"I agree with the others." Sallara added. "And if David wants to leave, I think we should let him. Alert authorities in case he would be followed."
Varla interrupted, "We already approached
the authorities hours ago. John Smith, Security Service, doesn't care and won't help us
, because David is not his civilian. And you're assuming that Mael can't or won't mind-control John Smith's human underlings. John Smith seems more like a 'cure' guy than a 'prevention' guy, and with Mael's stealth, I'm not endorsing any plan that fails to account for the possibility of John Smith not noticing his underlings getting mind-controlled out from under him until it's too late."
Sallara continued, "If not, at least take him somewhere more comfortable than here." She punctuated that by motioning the whole room. "Away from Arnaya, if possible."
Varla pointed out, "Then feel free to look for this spaceship's dormitories. I guarantee they're more secure than anything you'll find on that planet down there. The defenses include isolated atmosphere control so that Arnaya can't get in through the air ducts."
I am open to suggestions on how to change the tone of Varla's dialogue.

If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.I guess it's probably a moot point as it pertains to Jackson, but the longer David is up there and the more trapped he feels, the more he will be willing to compromise on any plan that gets him back down.
They'll turn your world aroundOh, I thought you meant like a predicament we'd have to suss out outside of the thread itself.
They'll turn your world aroundLooking at the order on the previous page, it looks like it went Miss > Masterofchaos > Will > You, with yours as the most recent post. So I believe it's Miss's turn. I've been wrong before though
Sorry for the double post, but in lieu of anyone else doing it, I made us a CDT wiki on wikia
. It's the barest of bare bones, and I'll happily give supreme administrative editing privileges to anyone who cares to spruce it up, but my immediate interest was in reviving the thread page for Adventure. So right now it's a two page wiki.
Here's the Adventure page
. I did what I could to keep the format mostly intact, but I'm unfamiliar with the features or syntax of wikia, so stuff like collapsible text and label notes don't work at the moment. Also, while I did manually add back in the billion or so links to thread pages, I did not preserve the wiki words or potholes. Thanks to tvtrope's unique syntax, any link business has to be added back in by hand, so for the sake of my numbing brain and general readability, I elected against doing that.
I also took the liberty of deleting unused location tags to clear up the active characters space.
Oh, also, the active characters haven't been updated since last September, and I recall a lot of them them being pretty outdated even then. I haven't updated them at all yet. I'll probably go on in a few days and update the areas I'm directly involved with (if no one else has), but I can't be responsible for every area in the thread. So like before, please try to update your character's locations when they move around.
If you want to help restore any of this stuff, there are links to the archived pages from September as well as the Sandbox page whizzer put together for us on the main page of the wikia for now, but I'll add them here too:
Sandbox
(good for getting direct links or looking at the format source code)
archive.org page
(good for checking the thread layouts in their original states and grabbing images n' stuff)
With the thread creator gone and the CDT's tvtropes presence limited to tropes, I'm not sure where we can put the link to the wiki to make it easy to find, so I'm just gonna stick it in my signature for the time being.
I've sequenced responses to Sallara, Marie, Amy and Jackson. I'm still working out responses to Claire and David. Also, I need help with the results of Arilay looking for spy bugs. Otherwise my transition between where I last left her and getting her onto the transporter pad will be very lame.
If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.Yes that would help in more ways than one, I've been waiting for a post from Melissa or any of the mind-controlled bandits ever since the Web started trying to provoke a reaction out of any of the mind-controlled bandits.

If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight. No problem! Seven months later, it really just took an evening of sitting down and doing it.
Syntax aside, the basic editing process isn't much different than editing a tvtropes page. Probably easier, actually, since there's a visual editor with buttons and all that, so you don't even have to type out the markup yourself for most editing.
They'll turn your world around

...I would, however, implore you to please prioritize getting posts out in the areas where you've been due before adding in any more characters. And if you're losing interest in these established situations, then maybe consider finding a way to pull your characters back so that other writers' characters can proceed with their own plotlines at a reasonable pace. All the cogs have got to turn to keep the thread running.
And if there's anything we can do to help you respond in those locations, please say so, so that we can move through this.
