[up][up][up]Ayako is someone who almost got eaten and got her arms broken. If I was in her size 5(US) Mary Janes,I would be pretty damn uncomfortable I would be mostly focused on murderizing the thing that tried to eat me. *Recalls back to when I broke my collarbone* Or giving everyone the "stop gawking and do something" look. sad

But enough of excuses, I must begin crafting more posts.

Right now I'm fifty-fifty between sending the mourner, Alice, to either the Snow Castle or the Marble Corridor. Does either group have a particular desire to not have to deal with bullshit from a heartbroken but still demented and dangerously amoral Mage Killer Corporate Samurai with a plethora of mental issues, the least of which is an unhealthily strong distrust of the very concept of magic?

Very curious; since it's almost the end of Satan's Year, when do you guys wanna wrap up Frontier? Like on what date? I'm asking cause I'm seeing a lot of people wrapping up their storylines there.

I turn in my last paper on Monday, and over the course of the week I will work on ending the lab storyline in Frontier (in a single, probably very long post) and posting for Dream.

^^ Antimagic has the potential to start a huge conflict with Seilaan. Whether or not that's desirable is something I'll leave up to you and nrjxll.

The last battle's curtains will open on stage!

[up][up][up]I'll end up bumping my Dream character count to five at this rate, but I'm really tempted to put one of my next planned character into the same room as her. She's a master of magic who has a tendency of changing moods at the drop of a hat. They'd get along well.

I'm debating whether or not having Alice added to the Snow Castle mix would be a good idea. I'm pretty sure she'd come to blows with Rin eventually. However, Rin does have a non-magical Ninja Maid who minored in combat acupuncture who would be more than happy to turn her into a Human Pincushion should she lay a hand on her master. Not to mention Snow Castle is a military base and Rin is the commanding officer.

Would Ki Manipulation count as magic in Alice's eyes?

I've thought it might be interesting if Alice and Vince met one last time, but of course, this might not be the best time for them to do that in Dream.

It may also be interesting/cause a blowup because Tsadro and Vince are basically 'powered' by magic. Vince may also be overconfident about the antimagic, thinking that he and Tsadro will be fine just because it's not iron.

Before I catch up on the CDT's, I just want to make a couple of points:

Firstly, I want to call to attention the new area I created in Dream II (the Twilight Ball, introduced in this post), which as of my previous post only has two of my own characters. I've been kinda hoping that some more characters would show up in that place, but there's nobody else so far. Although the place is a world of Functional Magic with no electronic technology, I think it would be hilarious to have an advanced technological being show up there, as it's also on another planet, so... alien stuff.

@Kkutwar: I don't think Beta Town would be a good place to send your fourth character, as Will and I are planning on having that location vanish soon. I need an excuse to pull Gon and Ari out of that thread, so... That is, unless you wish to have the character briefly help out with the battle, which I'd allow.

I may add a new character to dream, if (Star) Express/Liner is far-off.

Maybe to the same area KC's character ends up joining, as while my character is mostly unmagical, magic is taken as a part of life and society in his world, and part of his job is policing the government's magic-users. I think finding such a different perspective may be interesting.

EDIT: I may instead introduce a different character on the Twilight Ball. I am kinda torn because I don't want to juggle 3 characters right now.

@WillDeRegio: Depends on how it's framed. Her own Anti-Magic abilities have some very ki-like elements, though she might not appreciate it being pointed out to her. Really, her issue with magic is in a particular detail, and she's not entirely beyond reason about it. And it's not about the power magic grants some mortals over other — she's a capitalist working for a MegaCorp experimenting with Bio-Augmentation, after all.

Across universes, magic frequently displays a will of its own or, at the very least, often renders absolute value judgments on matters Alice regards as something for humanity to decide. Things like the concept of what is or is not "natural", questions of good and evil, or what truly defines the "self", the metaphorical "soul". That sort of thing. In short, even when it's not fueled by an Eldritch Abomination, magic will not permit her to decide the answers to the abstract philosophical questions of the cosmos. Anyone who can convince her that their magic, at least, can accept her value judgments without question, that it's not a fundamentally different tool than coal or electricity, will have no further problems with her. And (contra earlier depictions), given the choice between physical battle and trying to Break Them by Talking (or just giving a Motive Rant that she incorrectly thinks will be an effective Hannibal Lecture), she'll try to go for the second and possibly leave herself open to the same. Sigmund has rubbed off on her that way.

(You may notice some thematic similarities with her perspective on magic and that of the Dead God; she inherited it from them by a number of degrees of separation. And while there's other Anti-Magic users in her 'verse, the majority are theoretically fine with anything that isn't clearly Black Magic because they're sane.)

@LadyTanuki: Hah, that slipped my mind! It is indeed a third option.

I don't think we need to pick a date. The CDTs are too much of a malleable living thing for that to work well. It would rely on a lot of consistent posting and clear schedules.

Whoops, I forgot to respond to this earlier because I forgot that the "Marble Corridor" was where Seilaan and Mazra are now.

Honestly, the antimagic aspect is totally irrelevant as far as Mazra goes, but I don't have a problem with adding a character there or not.

[up][up][up]It would be interesting if Alice did show up at the Twilight Ball, as the place is on a planet that has not only a Background Magic Field, but an entire culture revolving around magic. I can imagine a heated debate between Alice and the two Bardic Sisters (especially Ferisen as she's the more magically adept) on the topic ensuing - and also Eterna's character if he's there.

Also, with my post in Dream II, I just realized that with Ari's sudden Mystripet swap (I felt the need to show off her third Mystripet before she disappears), the characters have a Fire, Ice, Lightning trio fighting against the Messenger. Even though the attack Satori used is Spirit element. Looks like the element/class breakdown is as follows:

  • Our heroes:
    • Kinaga: Fire/Light, Goddess
    • Satori: Ice/Spirit, Dragon
    • Ruka: Thunder, Ghost
  • versus:
    • Messenger: Undefinable, Undefinable (caused Ari's Scanner to break)

[up]Just posted for the lovebirds; am currently waiting on Nrjxll for the wagon group, as I believe it's their turn to post. [nja]

I think I have a serious addiction problem - specifically to Diabolus ex Machina. Especially prevalent in Frontier, as it just showed itself again in my latest post there. And it's beginning to leak into Dream II as well, with the whole Messenger fiasco in Beta Town (although that may be justified by Ruka Tempting Fate a bit too much). Thankfully I'm able to keep it restricted to the Character Development Threads, because if it spread to my actual works, that would probably suck.

Zuri dying did seem awfully out of the blue, and would probably have been really problematic for me if my characters had liked her.

I'm working on a post for Frontier. Not sure it's going to be done until tomorrow, though.

[up]Ehehehe, yeah, which is why I listed it under the Diabolus ex Machina entry on the thread's page. I think that was the most blatant example... though the shadowy beings appearing at the wagon is also a contender (at least that one was foreshadowed at the Sagebrush Suite in the hotel). Of course, Oswald and Nemaforte reacted quite negatively to her death because they actually liked her - though Nemaforte not so much due to incapacity for sadness and a particularly intense Mushroom Samba. Oswald should follow her example.

Just now noticed that Novis had ninja'd my last post here and posted in Dream II. Just now I was about to begin a post with Sinistrina, but then realized that it's Kkutwar's turn to post, especially since the Golden Being has yet to respond to everyone's replies to his soul-speaking comments and react to Gabe and Moreena (and the Sentinel, I think) approaching him in the "Light World". I better wait anyway, as I am curious to see whether he'll notice the location of Sinistrina's Soul Jar - because if he does, that'll give him a reason to destroy Misery Manor. And see if Friedrich guessed correctly about him and Armory Knight (or if Patches just doesn't know the answer).

The idea of Caleb trying to shake life into Moreena's slightly eldritch-y battle form like that is kind of funny.

@ KillerClowns: Alice's views on magic are interesting. I wouldn't mind having her show up at the Snow Castle.

[up][up]That might be a good alternative to the Twilight Ball too - now that Gliosem is there, there can be rivalry between her and Alice in terms of discussion about magic. I also at one point enertained the thought of putting Sinistrina there for a brief moment, since she also has an association with castles - if that somehow ends up being the case, there's another magic user in that group.

I'm actually still waiting on Will in that group... though I'll check now to see if he posted since I checked the thread last night.

EDIT: I stand corrected - KC already sent Alice there. Well, that means we're still waiting on Will at least. After that I can post now, that everyone else has reacted to Gliosem's presence. (And I found it funny how Rin is accused of being the magical one rather than Gliosem, when in reality it's the other way around - plus Gliosem was called a fairy.) I'll allow Corvidae and MoC to post before me though if they like, as Gwenafer and the teenage trio haven't yet reacted to Alice's arrival. (And Rin has to react to both Alice's and Gliosem's arrival!)

[up]I know the feeling... I'm currently in the same situation with Nemaforte in Frontier, since she would have a lot to say in reply to Oswald's comparison between dead people and words. Fortunately I have an excuse to wait via it being Nrjxll's turn to post in that group.

[up] I personally will vote for the Twilight Ball, but now that I think about it, Beta Town will be fine at least for a while, if you want to catch the end of the epic battle against the Messenger(s). Although there's already a fire goddess in the battle, there's no such thing as too much fire power! (Kinaga might even want to help stabilize him.)

@Eterna: I just remembered a question I wanted to ask regarding the landscape change in the Graveyard... You mentioned that Gabe and Moreena would be able to experience it since it links with the World of Light, but will it affect the rest of the Graveyard group as well? Sometimes it's not entirely clear in your posts which dimension and/or characters the Sentinel's reality shifts affect...

Heck, even I have forgotten to make that clear on occasion, what with the many characters with Aura Vision that I had throughout the threads and now Nemaforte's Mushroom Samba in Frontier. At least everyone seemed to get that the all-caps dialogue in my last Graveyard post was meant to be heard by only the Golden Being (though I wouldn't have minded if the Sentinel, Moreena, or even Patches would've picked up on it), so I'm happy with that.

I also just now noticed KC's post with Ethoya... and my first thought was "if she examines the remains, she should definitely notice the effects of Durnem's new spell, which is eating away at the bones". (I kinda snuck that post in right after my Beta Town one, so it might well have simply not been noticed.) But then I figured, is there something I (and Durnem) doesn't know about the creature that would make its bones resistant to such magic? In that case, then I guess a further examination would have to wait until after Will's next post. Speaking of Will, it just occurred to me that Ayako might not be able to use the salve Durnem gave her that well if she can't move her hands that well to apply it - Durnem would help with it, but she's kind of focused on her spell now. That spell may end up being overkill, but I figured Durnem would be Genre Savvy enough to know that skeletal creatures can usually piece themselves back together if their bones are separated.
