But who said it was only Slytherins? Just that it would make sense if that's what they did.
And you did say "Okay, some retarded Gryffindors wouldn't do that because there's less risk to it. How about everyone else who wants to actually defeat Voldemort and not die gloriously in battle? The second group doesn't include only Slytherins."
Which implies disdain towards everyone who didn't snipe.
There are too many toasters in my chimney!I said: Not everyone, but most people would have taken advantage of having a fucking castle instead of charging into the woods. What I'm saying is that, if Slytherins did it, then many others did as well.
thinking that, if many people sniped that, and they weren't just Slytherins, the whole point of "they did snipe, we just never learn any of it" doesn't sound plausible.
To which you answered with: Sniping requires hiding away from the enemies, where they can't find you. Not exactly very brave or valorous.
Not everyone likes 'ranged' combat. Many prefer 'melee', so to speak.
Because that sounded extremely arrogant and condescending (I'm a Griffindor and sniping is for pussies! RAWRRRRR!), my next post did have disdain from those that didn't snipe.
(Also, snipe isn't possibly the best word for "defending from inside the castle, taking advantage of the cover provided.)
So yeah, what I mean is, ignore that post you quoted.
In short: I believe that if it wasn't only Slytherins, we would have heard of it. And if it was possible (which I doubt it, because how can you aim with a wand from such a distance?), it wouldn't be only Slytherins.

I believe that;
There were Slytherins who participated in the final battle.
We never saw them actually do anything in a battle.
We never saw anyone beyond a select few and the adults in a battle.
We never saw the tactics used in the battle.
We know that Slytherins are cunning.
Therefore, I believe that the Slytherins may have hidden themselves, and helped from positions that weren't likely to be attacked.
I don't believe that they were the only ones to do it; merely that a sizeable portion of them may have done it, and a sizeable portion of all who did it may have been them.
(And sniping is generally what people do from defensive positions inside a castle- it's why windows are so narrow. Although they weren't exactly sniping, but the principle is the same.)

There are too many toasters in my chimney!DH p 503 UK hardback: Ginny and Tonks ... at the next window ... Ginny sent a well aimed jinx in to a crowd of fighters below. "Good girl!" roared ... Aberforth.
Ginny is Gryff and no retards complain about sniping. The only people who complain about sniping are the Slyths being shot at.

Liberty! Equality! Fraternity! How is it arrogant and condescending to prefer being in the thick of it? Not all of us have 20/20 vision, you jackass.
Scratch that, how is it a sign of arrogance to speak precisely and eloquently?

Not Quite Batman
I'd like to pop in and say, I wholeheartedly approve of the direction this discussion has taken.
Something I remembered today, doesn't Harry note at some point how all Slytherins, many Ravenclaws, some Hufflepuffs and a few Gryffindors went away to safey? So there wouldn't be any Slytherin left to defend the castle. (Of course, we later see that Malfoy and co are still there, but they had a reason to hide.)

This is probably why JK Rowling is losing respect.
She's abusing her role as God to throw in her word and add continuity and alter characters. But she acts like it was obvious and intentional.
"Only a moron would think Harry wasn't African-American! When did I say he wasn't, huh?!"

I don't trust or like Word of God. Too many writers think they can cover up their incompetence by saying "well I MEANT this...."
Or they just out-and-out change things later on.
But really, I, along with many long-time HP fans, just gave up on her the moment she made Dumbledore gay for no reason.
There was subtext in the books. Some people saw it, others didn't. She was asked a question, she answered it.
Read my stories!

@Dealan: Sniper is credit to team, but a team entirely made up of snipers is just silly.
