The line is a tip off that the Big Bad is someone the protagonist both has a close bond with and someone who was beneath their notice until this point.

The hero didn't arrive in time to stop the antagonist.

"What, did you think I didn't KNOW that?"

A time travel story where the twist is that the story is a time travel story, the villain says the above line to the hero regarding how their efforts are for naught as their plans bore fruit before the hero even went to school as the two are battling each other inside a Dyson sphere.

Quietly muttered by the sidekick as they put together what exactly the Big Bad is, a sentient AI that’s already succeeded in taking over most of the world.

“e4. The king’s pawn. How spectacularly average.”

Said nonchalantly by an invading king in his tent playing chess after hearing from his commanders how his strategy resulted the resounding defeat of one of the opposing king’s minor noble allies. The opposing king is just sitting right across from him with a bemused grin, and casually reminds him that between two gods like them that their little war is just a game.
