Why is there a huge misconception in old mecha shows?

A lot of people seem to assume that old mechas, particularly Super Robot ones, only involve "hotblooded-ness". While it may be true in some cases, it's pretty much low on numbers. Voltes V for instance is more drama-heavy, Mazinger Z gets trashed a lot, etc.

It's still an undeniable and very noticeable part of the genre, even if a show has more to offer beneath the surface. Given that most people may only see openings or trailers of these shows, which put heavy emphasis on the hot blood, the shows tend to get characterized as such.

I guess that's what you get when your opening music isn't a generic J-Pop but rather a theme song sung for the anime itself.

Also, Super Robot Wars skews perceptions hard.

Wait, what the fuck? How does that make a damn bit of sense?

[up]It was just a random off-hand comment on the misconception as said on the second post. "Oh boy the song is hotblooded, the show must be like that!"
