The only one I can think of is a town I made up a few years ago called Puddleville, which was a remote upstate New York village that was half-based on select aspects of my hometown and Stephen King's little Maine villages.
Banned entirely for telling FE that he was being rude and not contributing to the discussion. I shall watch down from the goon heavens.I've used New York, Chicago and Boston, but that was for a work of Historical Fiction. I try not to use an exact city when writing other pieces of my work. I don't know why. Although that's probably because I want the story to be able to take place in different settings without changing anything.
Unless the plot is centered around a setting or it's essential to the story, of course.
I use real cities for the most part, with one notable exception: Port De Soto, a nice city on the coast of Florida, once you get past one of the highest crime rates in the world and the rapid privatizing of...almost everything.
I've got two guns pointed west and a broken compass.

Recently I've been using this trope for one of my stories. Has anybody else tried this before? Mine are based off of cities in Los Angeles like Glendale and Pasadena. What cities has anybody else used?
