All right y'all, listen up. We've got some solutions up in here.
/stupidity
Ahem. So, after some discussion, we have a proposed (and accepted by several players) solution to the sign up dilemma.
Rather than use a system like Umbra's, we can just add an RP Sample section onto the end of the signup sheet. There would be a prompting post (probably the same for each, almost definitely a battle of some kind) that the signer-upper responds to in this section.
Using this method, we can vet out crimes against grammar/spelling, make note of godmodders/powerplayers/etc., and ask them to improve before allowing them in.
Presumably, the RP Sample would be allowed to be edited to allow for improvements.
Sound good? I think it's much simpler.
Tangentially related: I think we should make a proper sign up thread. We can store the sign up sheet there, store links to the chats, wiki, second forum, and essay there, and spell out, in no uncertain terms, what our expectations and requirements are, rather than have three people haphazardly throw some links and a form at them.
Victory! Honor! Destiny! Mutton!Just saying I really like Crewe's idea, and its a great alternative to mine.
Wolf, I'd like to apologize for being passive-aggressive to you earlier.
EDIT: And I fully support a real signup thread.
(Also, we should clean up the trope page to reflect the current state of the RP, it has hardly any recent events.)

Contact Me!It's okay. I guess I sometimes seem kind of snobby by not doing those things? I honestly don't mean it that way. My reluctance to participate in some of the non-main-thread stuff has a lot to do with keeping my sanity intact, and having hobbies that I also enjoy that aren't the RP. You know?
As a peace offering, I give you this: the official localization of "Iris". It's "Ylisse".

All right, just like Full Moon did, I'll be bringing my PC from Pokemon: The RP into WAAPT as an Anti!Counterpart to Alyssa.*
Player
- Name: Jessica Neva
- Age: 15, almost 16
- Hometown: Vermillion City
- Appearance:
- Very long red hair (but nowhere near as long as Alyssa's), gold eyes, a denim jacket over a purple shirt, and denim shorts. Does Not Like Shoes.
- Personality:
- Kind and energetic, not one to pass up lighthearted snark when she gets the chance.
- Backstory:
- Until two months ago, Jessica lived a normal life. Until two months ago, she wasn't really all that interested in the whole "trainer" thing. But two months ago, she learned that her parents had been caught in a sudden storm at sea on the way to Hoenn for a vacation, drowning in the disaster. After about a month of depression, she decided to stop grieving and actually try to carry on with life. The best way to go about doing this, she figured, was to become a trainer.
Pokemon
- Name: Sunset
- Species: Larvesta
- Gender: Female
- Personality:
- Shy and introverted, made even more so by the fact that her only "family" can't understand her.
- Backstory:
- When Jessica's parents went on their fatal vacation, they left a Larvesta egg in her care. This Larvesta hatched, and is currently her only Pokemon.

Okeydokes, I wrote a draft for a Signup thread OP, and will likely set it up soon... but posting a paste for now for feedback:
Contact Me!I would put the list as spinoff games, anime, TCG, and manga, personally, if only for the sake of accuracy in what we actually use as inspiration.
Don't make the joke about gender. On the off chance that someone who doesn't identify as either gender wants to join, it's a little tasteless.
Make a note that anime towns are considered canon, and that the town they come from can be a smaller, nameless town as long as it's in a known Region (as is Tagg's).
The intro to the 'mons section could use some work. It feels a little bit rushed. Try rephrasing the bit about how many Pokemon they should start with (something feels a little off about the wording), and rewriting the bit about understanding Pokemon. Something more straightforward like "Most characters in the RP can understand and speak to their Pokemon, but much like being a member of PEFE, this ability probably needs to be earned in-RP, although exceptions can be discussed."
Nicknames are not "very much preferred". I understand that there are a lot of Pokemon in the RP now, so names are helpful, but the games don't judge you for not naming your Pokemon, so neither should we.
Remember that knowing their starter is supposed to be a requirement.
Also, perhaps indicating that the RP test will be a battle situation would be a good idea.
Those are my notes!

Wolf: First thing changed. Second one, too, though that was directed at those who would play robots or something.
Will edit the third one as well.

Contact Me!Also, a non-changing-your-post idea: we should probably take turns doing the sign-up battles.
Oh, one last note. Make mention of the fact that sign-ups are never truly "closed", but that certain story arcs may be closed to you if you join too close to their start date.

OK, added the bit on arcs. Should I post thread now or wait?

Contact Me!Just read over the signup proposal and it looks fine to me.
As for the R Ping sample, I think Wolf's suggestion of a battle could work, though I think it would be better if it's 1-vs-1 rather than 2-vs-2, because battles can take a while, and I'm not sure if there would be much more that we couldn't identify in a 1-vs-1 battle.
"Don't worry, murder is a sign of affection." - An amalgamation of DunsparceAdded, Crow.
Also, after trawling for a little more feedback, it's up.

Future suggestions can be incorporated by editing.
Contact Me!Got it.
Also adding Silent's "rolling updates" idea.
Should I add a Discussion Thread link, or do they find that themselves?
