I suppose that I can understand where you're coming from... Though I can't help but feel as if that's missing the core of the equation... Political intrigue in general tends to make for stories that are rather gray at the bare minimum, even without armed conflict, if only because someone's going to wind up getting hosed, and someone's going to be used as a metaphorical chesspiece... Not to mention, it raises the question of how does this political intrigue affect the common grunt in the military, or the peasant in the fields?

That said, this is WAAPT. If there was ever a setting in which to find a goofy, oddball 'so crazy it works' solution to anything, it would be this one... So in spite of my concerns regarding PxNA I shall remain cautiously optimistic about it for now.

@ Tracer

Maybe we could make it at least a partial PARODY of war stories? Like, take elements that would be Darker and Edgier and play at least some of them for laughs?

Double post, I know, but this is important, peoplemons. This is a future arc some people were asking for clarification on.

I'm taking about:

Return to AU: The Draconic Uprising

OK, so here's the gist of it. Sometime after we do Return To PMD, we do some stuff involving the AU cast. That stuff is stopping a rebellion by a world-spanning cult of Dragon Pokemon.

The whole thing gets stated after said cult of Dragons decide that humans haven't been holding up their end of the Vow, the ancient pact between humans and Pokemon (read up on your Sinnoh mythology on Bulbapedia for details). So, the Dragons decide the world would be much better off if they were in charge. But they can't rebel against the humans as is - the Legendaries would squash them flat for breaking that same Vow. Then they discover a weapon that can change humans into Pokemon en masse - and realize they have a loophole. The Vow says nothing about asserting dominance over your fellow Pokemon, after all...

So, essentially, the main plot involves stopping these Dragons somehow, and reversing any damage they do. Any questions, comments, or concerns are appreciated.

EDIT: Discussion links here, here, and here.

Twilight FAQs

How does it work?

Under twilight conditions, electronics don't work, and apart from Souls (Human and Pokemon alike), the Aura or Obscura sensitive of any or no Attributes, and Ghost types, every living thing in its Ao E gets turned into a wisp, which is aware of the twilight haze and the 'tombs, but not that they've been transfigured.

Souls and the Twlight

Souls of Silver are immune from the effects of Twilight, but are invisible to everyone except the other exceptions and those they've made bonds with. However, as a result, the Spiritomb are actively hunting for them.

On subject of Legendaries.

Okay, it seems that in the chatroom Tracer has copped a bit of flack for writing Johto!Suicune with a male identification when, earlier in WAAPT, Johto!Suicune was written with a female identification.

Now, due to the "debate" that broke out because of people thinking it breaks canon/EIW shouldn't be canon etc. Us "chatroomies" have decided on a system that could possibly work in a WAAPT sense.

THE LEGENDARIES HAVE NO SET GENDER IDENDIFICATION. THEY CAN FLIP FROM IDENTIFYING AS FEMALE TO IDENTIFYING AS MALE IF THEY FEEL LIKE

This system does not Retcon the old posts in which certain Legends are depicted as a certain gender nor does it force newcomers to have to write a certain legend as a certain gender.

BUT WAIT! What about Legendaries that I can see as ethier Gender? Simple: WRITE THEM AS OMNISEXUAL OR WITH GENDER NEUTRAL PRONOUNS. This clears up prombles some may have when writing for Legends that don't strike one as being ethier gender (Arceus would fall into this catergory for most people).

So, there is my proposal. I feel like I have nothing more to add to this post.

List of gender-neutral pronouns to contribute. You can pick pretty much any style from there, ranging from the semiformals "s/he" and personal they to the more esoteric Spivak and Futurama pronouns.

As I'm sure that many of you have gathered, today was a bit of a rough one in the chat... After seeing a critique of potentially canon-affecting worldbuilding pop up by Silent not making it onto the Discussion Thread (which in all likelihood could have prevented more than a couple headaches today), I have decided to put the current direction that I have been taking Johto's Legendary Beasts up in a more accessible location:

Raikou

Is presently intended to be depicted with behavior that trends feminine. Johto!Raikou is presently being written under the assumption that the character will be assuming a "team leader" position amongst the Johto Beasts, will be results-oriented, be a bit of a snarker, and have a bit of a mean and petty streak.

Entei

Is presently intended to be depicted with behavior that trends masculine. The character is presently intended to be assuming a "subordinate" position, and is intended to be a pragmatic, somewhat overly-serious character whose focus is on the duties expected of a creature serving as a herald of Ho-Oh. If Johto!Entei were a fighter, "he" would be the "boring but practical" choice.

Suicune

Is presently intended to be depicted with behavior that trends masculine. The character is presently intended to be assuming a "subordinate" position, and is planned to be lacksidasical, have a preoccupation with flash and style, and get on the nerves of the other Gerbils Beasts for perceived incompetence and lack of seriousness. Were this character a fighter, Johto!Suicune would be the "awesome but impractical" choice.

If you're wondering what gender these guys are. My official answer is "Whatever you think they are." After seeing the chat implode today over arbitrary gender roles for legendaries (which as much as I hate to admit, I was also guilty of exacerbating), I have decided that the best solution is to take a page from Rich Burlew's depiction of one of his characters and write characters such as these with my own mental assumptions regarding who/what they are, while attempting to ensure that I do not impose said assumptions onto other players in WAAPT. From this point out, I officially do not take a stance regarding the official genders of legendaries in this RP and whether they are male/female/hermaphrodites/sandwiches unless A: They are gendered in the main games. (ex. Heatran, Cresselia, Lati@s) B: Word of Masuda says that they lean one way or the other. (ex. The Taos.) C: They are WAAPT-generated characters independent of any official canon (ex. Mini-Legends) or otherwise are characters that have a relationship with a WAAPT-generated character that is DEPENDENT upon them having a specific gender role (ex. Pleo addressing Lugia as "Daddy" or some variation thereof).

If there are any objections to the direction of these characters as they exist in this post, please voice your objections. And let's continue to try and build ourselves a broader, more expansive, and most importantly enjoyable world in WAAPT.

Thank you for your time.

Um... I know this is possibly the worst timing ever, but I just remembered this discussion we had a while ago...

... Yeah.

I also think there might've been an updated list made by Wolf or Pentigan after our discussion, but I couldn't find it as I was searching through the old pages.

Looking through those old pages, I see we always did put a lot of effort into what we did, and we had a lot of fun while doing so, like when we were planning the AU arc.

I found this list of RP Combat rules and thought it'd be a good idea to share. Edited it to make it fit this RP more.

1st Rule: Be fair and sane!

You can't kill somebody with one strike on the head when you are standing at the other corner of the room.

2nd Rule: One step after the other!

To continue the upper example: You have to cross the room (1) to break through the defense of your enemy (2) and to hit his head (3). After each step your opponent can do something on his own.

3rd Rule: Don't "do" but "try"!

There is an essential difference between "I hit" and "I try to hit". When you hit your opponent, he is hit. He has to deal with that and can`t prevent anything. But if you try to hit him, he has the chance to dodge or to do something else. It is a matter of the first rule to give your opponent this chance.

4th Rule: Your opponent decides the effect!

When you managed to hit him on his head, it is your opponent's turn. HE decides the effect. If you feel your character has some sort of ability that allows them to do more damage than would be considered normal, discuss it with the group in either the chatroom or the discussion board PRIOR to the fight.

5th Rule: Use your brain and don't add things while you are in combat!

To add things you can't explain from your character's past is also a sort of lie. Think about what your character carries around and use those items regularly. RPers usually get their things by RP with others.

6th Rule: Don't be too fast!

If you want to escape from your opponent remember that you are still in the fight! This means you try to escape, but you are not gone yet. If you run away without respect of the this rule, you spoil your opponents RP-experience because he is not able to stop you IC.

Okay, so I forgot to post this when we discussed it (irony), but anyway:

We need to make a pact. Every time there's an important conversation in the Creative chat, please:

A) Give the people in Social a heads up. Most of them may be in both, but there's always the chance someone isn't that would be interested.

B) MAKE. A. DISCUSSION. POST.

C) Change the topic. This makes it a lot easier for people looking through the log to sift through minor stuff (like, say, character development or minor derails) to find the big stuff.

D) MAKE. A. DISCUSSION. POST.

E) Make sure you realize just who's online. Plenty of conversations happen while people are asleep (because TIMEZONES), and they probably have an opinion. If possible, have the conversation when lots of people are on, or at the very least keep in mind that not everyone is aware of what you say.

F) MAKE. A. DISCUSSION. POST.

And just a note: It would be nice if a discussion post had a link to the log where the conversation happened, but at the very least summarize what happened. Don't leave out details unless they aren't necessary to know to be able to act on the conversation (i.e. if an arc involves exceptions to something, provide those exceptions in as much detail as possible, but it isn't necessary to provide, say, Pokemon nicknames or something, unless you really don't want to answer when people ask what they are).

Don't just say "Someone post in Discussion" and then drop the issue. Assign someone to post (probably the person who started the conversation, or someone who volunteers).

I know I'm not like, a mod or something, but time and time again I've entered a conversation where everyone knows more about the topic at hand than I do, because they were present during a conversation that wasn't posted in Discussion. And it's really, really frustrating, especially when everyone assumes you know as much as they do.

Which brings up another point: DO NOT ASSUME EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVEN'T MADE A RECENT DT POST ABOUT IT.

Aaaand... I think that's it. I think the Creative/Social chat system is working, but it could work a whole lot better if a few simple things are done.

Double post, because it needs to be made and no one else has posted.

Anyway, I had an idea for an arc.

Basically, there's a group of people who have trained a group of Pokemon (likely Psychic types) to make a sort of Lotus Eater Machine for recreational use, and intend to start a business. Believing we need a vacation (or similar reasons), the J-Team volunteers to help test it.

The people, seeing a great business opportunity, they promote the [REDACTED] out of having the J-Team spend [x] amount of time under the spell of their Pokemon. They go under, and find themselves in a large space that looks to each person like their own personal paradise, except they can see and interact with everyone else, though they would each be in their own dream.

Unfortunately, because the J-Team can't have a vacation without something going wrong, there are unfortunate side effects. The longer they stay under, the more out of touch one becomes with their physical body. If anyone's read the Bartimaeus Trilogy, think what happens when someone goes to the Other Place, without the rapid aging.

Now, a few people (maybe an Attribute, maybe a group that has a certain item, or a certain type Pokeform... whatever we want, really, I'm just making suggestions) start to "wake up" a little, and realize what's going on. They then have to go around and get everyone else to "wake up" from their paradise and then try to escape.

However, these people have invested everything they have in thins publicity stunt, and are terrified of having their business ruined by having them wake up early, they send "agents" of a sort into the dream to try to keep everyone asleep.

Aaaand... I think that's it. Thoughts?

I'm afraid I have to object to this arc idea, for a few reasons:

1. This sounds far too similar to the mindscapes arc for my liking. While the reasons for being in a coma are different this time, the whole idea of being trapped in a mental space and struggling to find a way out is the same.

2. This arc seems to put more emphasis on the human characters to the extent that the Pokémon suffer for it, something that I'm not so keen on overall. Personally, I'm of the line of thinking that if a plot in a Pokémon RP makes it hard for the actual Pokémon to get involved, it probably needs rethinking.

So yeah, that's my thoughts.

So a Virtual World arc. Hmm...it would be very dependent on how the vacation is sold, I think. There are enough savvy people in the group that it couldn't just be "worry-free virtual vacation" without arousing suspicion.

I'm reminded of the end of the first season of Yu Gi Oh, where the KaibaCorp board of directors traps Kaiba in a prototype video game world. I'm not suggesting we copy that, but the idea of making it a "game" might make getting us into it easier.

I would be interested, for sure.

[up] That's where the concept of the game might help. If it's a virtual Pokemon simulator of one kind or another, our Pokemon could be transferred into the game with us.

On Crewe's idea

Sorry, but I'm not so fond of it either. It is too much like the mindscapes, and if it happens at all it would be best as a short subarc and not a full arc. To me a true arc should involve exploring some physical location or locations, whether just fro the sake of it or for some overarching goal.
