I meant filler as in it's something that we as writers made up while waiting for new sources to adapt. Which is what filler usually is. It's just also usually menial, which the AU is not.

Well, personally I wouldn't mind more content that isn't adapted directly from the games. There's nothing WRONG with it, but it kind of implies that we can't come up with anything interesting otherwise.

I didn't mean to imply that (although I'm not as much a fan of non-game related stuff, personally, as I feel it can lack direction, but that's beside the point). Mostly, my concern is that when we have game-based arcs, we should do them around when the games are released, so they're at least relevant. The AU is something that we could literally do whenever we wanted.

Plot timings

I'd rather we leave a pretty sane time between when a game goes out for several countries (not just "lol, Japan and US"), then the game gets well known enough that we actually know what we are dealing with, then an arc based on it. Of course, thanks to the nature of the intertubes planning can begin much earlier, so it is a pretty minor issue.

My expected timeframe for Kanjoh to be done is either before April begins, or after May begins. I'd rather not be cut from my own arc while I'm busy with RL.

Pokebunaga Arc

I think I'll skip a potential Pokébunaga arc. I really don't want to jump into the "Pokéworld is japanese" bandwagon, which is why I've also retconned some stuff about Silent's past and will probably continue to do so. So in the meantime I'll be doing something else. It depends of what is proposed as an aside arc.

Pokepark or Rumble Blast

I'd probably totally dig a potential Rumble Blast arc if a good spin is thrown for it, like the "Lenore's Tale" idea. Of which we NEED MOAR. As for which one do we do first and when, I'm more or less ambivalent to either choice. One thing though, I have the impression both would work better as miniarcs than full arcs. Perhaps one of them could be adapted into the PEFE Exploration.

Friggin' fics! The chat doesn't like your pairings! >_>

Worldbuilding as Filler

...I'm not even going to comment there. Would get me in a very bad mood.

Just a reminder: The Creative chat is for RP discussion and planning only. "Anything Pokemon related" does not count as RP discussion unless we're planning on using that in RP.

There's been a lot of random shenanigans happening in that chat that would be better suited for Social, So could that get moved over there, please so that we don't run into the issues we had in Social again?

On the subject of filler subarcs, there was one little thing that I've been meaning to formally make a statement of intent about for the last few months...

The World Ends With Pokemon

Namely this little subarc... Which as of present is intended to be run against the backdrop of us getting our souls collectively impounded via the ex-owners of that telecom that's popped up IRP.

And that leads me to the crux of what I wanted to get at...

Initially, TWEWY week was envisioned as a solo endeavor, something not wholly unlike many of the video game mini-arcs in the OI. However, after getting some feedback and statements of interest from other players in this RP, it made me stop and think about how to redesign the subarc so as to be open to other players.

It was that, coupled with some observations of some other RPing endeavors that got me thinking... Could this subarc provide a way that we could sucker draw people who would normally not particularly care about WAAPT into our fold? There's clearly a community of RPers out there that are into TWEWY. The fora has seen a number of TWEWY RPs in the past. Coupled with a phenomena that Tangent has noticed of Pokemon making just about anything more awesome, I figured that it might present a fairly decent draw to outsiders...

So that takes me to my proposal:

Is it acceptable for me to use this subarc for the express purpose of attempting to recruit some fresh blood into this RP? Even if it's just for cameo purposes? If so, does it seem appropriate to make an interest thread for it in order to plan out its events and get folks integrated without derailing this Discussion thread?

Thoughts and commentaries are greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Linky to Interest / Recruiting / Planning thread is here.

Nobunaga

Love the idea!

TWEWP

I agree with the idea. Even if I have next to no idea what TWEWY is like.

Chat

Agreed. Pokemon Games =/= WAAPT.

The two are tangentedly related topics.

Nobunaga

Yeah, I think I may have problems joining in because RP!Tagg's family line is explicitly NOT from Pokepan. Not to mention I think the armbands are most likely a lot older than a mere 600 years.

TWEWP

I don't see a problem.

Chat

Okay. this is a promblem that need to be addressed because, frankly, we cannot go on like this. Due to the discussions that happened in the chats on Saturday (Most of you) and Sunday (for myself) many of us have come out with this little fact about the chatrooms. Not only is the arguing breaking us apart and tearing us down as an RPing communtity as a whole, but it's damaging our own damn HEALTH.

You see, as a trip to the local GP, my sudden sleep promblems see to come from the fact that I am overly stressed and spending to much time on the chats. This is not good by any stretch of the imagination. This problem is not just limited to me, though. As Tangent, Tagg, Silent and Anom have expressed concerns of their own mental health deteriorating due to the fights that have broken out in the chat. I'd assume the same would go for others, but I have no conformation for that.

Goddamit people, this is a bloody RP. It is not work. It is not a chore. It is supposed to be FUN, like a GAME. People treating it as serious business is the main reason these fights have broken out and is the reason why our own health is degrading.

I could wattle on all day, trying to give tips for you guys to STOP FIGHTING. Unfotunatly, it'll never happen (If any of the many previous posts in this thread regarding flamewars have been an indication) but please, consider this. Every time you guys fight, your friends' MENTAL HEALTH will suffer for it.

On the Nobunaga + Pokémon arc

This doesn't interest me at all, so I won't be taking part. Sorry.

Chat

Now, you listen to me.

I come here to RP. I do not come here to deal with Anom's issues or anything else that is not related to Pokémon or the RP. I don't care, they are not my problem.

And I'm sorry, but I'm not going to spend time in social with Anom, and I would appreciate it if you stop trying to make me. When people don't like other people, you don't make them spend time together. It only makes things worse, okay?

And when it comes to me complaining about potential ideas, let me ask you this: Has my complaining ever lead to any of them not happening? Because I think you'll find the answer is "No."

[up][up][up] Luke, that is not the point here. The point is, that you are indirectly hurting a lot of people, and we can not allow that to continue. I know you're not the only one guilty here, so don't take it personally. I'm just saying that we still have issues here, as Fool's post pointed out.

On Issues

Now, I haven't talked much about this, but I mostly have two or three thins to say and I have mostly said them, so the only thing that I'm going to mention here is that "somehow" the one day where I announced I'd go away to try and have some RL!life, someone I'm not going to mention flares things up. That kind of stuff doesn't really get me in the mood or the capacity to go back to the RP which si where I'm supposed to be because I'm trying to more-or-less-GM an arc. So please? Work with me a little bit here.

I mean, from what I read of the logs all the issue of yesterday could have been avoided if two really SIMPLE things had happened: 1.- whoever brought the news of Kyurem and stuff should have announced them in Social, which is where they belong for the moment (or, worst case scenario, someone should have simply stood up and said "guys, this is for the other chatroom, let's go"); and 2.- certain someone for which I'll retract an earlier apology didn't insist to beat people with a stick when they are making progress at the very first slight chance of detecting a mistake. I mean, I know we are no therapists but really?

On proposals

First and foremost, congrats to Tracer on his RFI / proposal thread and hopefully he'll catch some attention. I'm still on the opinion that before trying to turn the RP into Attract Mode and lure new people in we need to solve some issues in particular with signup, but fortunately there's time to work in such stuff.

I also apologize for not commenting on Wolf's idea before. I like the idea, because IMHO it is the kind of exploration arc that we need, with that kind of variety and stuff (FTR, I feel the same way about Poképarc miniarc proposal). It's just that I'm not gonna play it. I'm going to find something else to do in the meantime. So don't take my negative to go in as a disapproval of the idea, heck if possible I can still probably provide some little help with the development.

As for Poképark mini/sub-arc, I'm OK with it in principle, it's just that I don't really have a high, or even regular, opinion of the game, because of some factors (yes, half of it involves Pikachu). So I'm gonna be looking at the proposal from a distance before deciding if I contribute or jump in. As for Rumble Blast, I also like the idea, but I need to go on a serious Wiki Walk before being able to contribute enough to it. As I've mentioned it before, for me it's all about the spin. tongue

If you're not going to use the social chat, that's fine, but it doesn't mean you can turn the creative chat into a second social chat. If that happens, then why would we have even bothered with the split in the first place?

Actually... All this talk of Pokebunaga made me curious about something...

Pokebunaga Arc Tone and Direction

While I will gladly say that a PxNA arc does intrigue me, even if we'd probably have to pull a bit to make everyones' ancestors warlords or that ilk... (Though considering how this setting has Reshiram and Zekrom ordering pizzas over the phone, it could be argued that that's not farfetched enough. :P) The overall premise of the arc makes me a little jittery...

Nobunaga's Ambition is a game that first and foremost revolves around political conquest. And given Oda Nobunaga's rap sheet, it's something that can very easily be cast into a rather unpleasant light...

Of course, from a game standpoint, it's easy to avoid these things. One can simply abstract away all the ugliness that accompanies armed conflict away. Your units can respawn, your enemies are there, and then disappear when defeated, on terms that your HC is free to define however it wishes...

HOWEVER. We are an RP, it's literally impossible for us to dodge potentially unsettling implications via abstraction, which would force such an arc onto an extremely narrow tightrope act between veering off into rather dark and depressing material, and abstracted chessmastery off of the battlefield that could potentially cut into the overall coherence of such an arc.

So... My main question is... If we were to do a PxNA arc... What do we allow to happen? How do we depict it? And how do we keep things from becoming a darkfest without blatant sugarcoating and while keeping things enjoyable?

Some commentary would be greatly appreciated.

My chief interest in the arc was political intrigue. The alliances, betrayals, and shifts in the balance of power that occur between the generals (i.e. us).

As for the issue of battles, combat is not the only thing that you actually have to do in Nobunaga's Ambition.

One may transfer soldiers between fiefs, go to war, increase taxes (which causes a decrease in peasant loyalty which may lead to rebellion), transfer rice or gold to another fief, raise the level of flood control (which decreases productivity), make a non-aggression pact or arrange a marriage, cultivate (which increases productivity, but decreases peasant loyalty), use a merchant (to buy/sell rice, borrow funds, or purchase weapons), recruit for the military (soldiers or ninja), train the army (which increases fighting efficiency), spy on a rival, expand a town (which increases taxes collected, but decreases peasant loyalty), give food/rice to peasants/soldiers (to raise morale), steal peasants from rival daimyos, allocate military strength, recuperate (even a daimyo can get sick), turn over a controlled fief to the computer for administration, or pass a turn (hint: when one has no idea of what to do, train the troops.)

When one throws in that Pokemon can be used in all of this, too, I think we have a lot of options without going too grim-and-gritty-war-film.

EDIT: Oh, also, the opportunity to explore the history of the WAAPT-verse. That was high on the list of priorities, too.
