I would like to bring a matter to everyone's attention that, if executed correctly, could very well improve the RP immensely, as well as aid in world-building, to an extent.
Now, it seems to me that when it comes to places such as routes and towns in this RP, we simply use them as backdrops to set our plots against, rather than making any attempt to integrate them into the plot ourselves.
Consider, as an example, Meteor Falls. What happened there that was memorable? The answer is that it was the place where we held the reveal. Now, considering that plot, would it had been significantly affected had it had taken place anywhere else?
The answer is no, and that, peoplemons, is a very bad thing.
Rather than attempt to take advantage of each location's assets for storytelling, we simply just use them as no more than mere backdrops. Which is a disservice for them as a source of potential ideas.
Moving back to the Meteor Falls example, there are loads of things we could have done there that would have taken advantage of the setting. For instance, we could have met some wild Solrock and Lunatone, or had the Salamence in the group interact with the wild Bagon that live there, and that's just two examples.
Not only does it help worldbuild, but it helps make our visits to each location more memorable, rather than just thinking of them as "That place where we had The Reveal", for example.
Thoughts on this?

Excellent point, Luke. Explore something about each location significant to one of our characters. I could try that.

And to that, may I suggest that if you're unsure about a location, that you look it up on Bulbapedia? Generally, the most important things you need to focus on are the terrain, and what sort of wild Pokémon or NP Cs live there.[

Well, There's stuff already existing in canon...For instance I'm pretty sure there are no other cities like P Acifidlog ouside of Hoenn.
On that note remember that the world is not just limited to what we see in the games — if it did, we could walk from Fortree to Lilycove in about 1000 steps, and we would only be able to walk in the directions of S,N, E, W. There's a lot of towns thrown around there in the anime, for example, and routes have a life of its own.
Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?I originally had plans to give more detailed views around LaRousse City such as the botanical garden or the shopping district, but with the timing and such, luck wasn't really with me there. However, I entirely plan on exploring either the Hoenn Battle Frontier or Evergrande/Hoenn League in more depth.
There is no night without dawn. The sun is always sure to rise.Fool: yes, please. In the games it is pretty minimal, but the anime (and apparently the manga) make it a point of it being a settlement just like any other. For starters, well, it hosts the local Conference Tournament.
There should might also be a port somewhere, considering it is the location in Hoenn closer to Kanjoh (via Alto Mare, Azalea?). EDIT: scratch that; Sootopolis is pretty much as close, and is more valuable as a stop.

Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?Sorry to distract from the current conversation (for the record, I try to do things that actually exist in a town, but I'm not much of a worldbuilder), but I finished the rest of my Pokemon (sort of). Labelled with species for the benefit of new players.

I didn't do Rosemary, or Crewe's Pokemon, because I'm still getting the hang of them. And I intentionally left out Smeargle, because at this point, I have a whole headcanon about him that is never going to be brought up in canon, and nothing I could do could live up to him.
Also, I didn't do Katie's Pokemon, because dear lord, that was a lot of work. o_o;;
Thoughts?
This actually helped a lot with my characterization, I think. Or it will, at least. By giving them physical human traits, I can nail down what kind of character they would be based on those traits. For example: I had no idea what to do with Scarlett, so I just started trying stuff. The result is something with a definite personality, that can help guide how I write her.
(P.S. I am in no way making any money off of these. That should satisfy that legal line.)

:3 @ Ren and Sniffles. In a :3 sort of way, of course.
Also, that seems like a good way to go to characterize them. If you remember to bring back those resulting traits to Pokémonhood after projecting them, the resulting personalities should be pretty solid compared to "enumerative" styles of development.
Go ahead. I'm not using Wallace until right before Silent leaves Mossdeep (and then, it will be for a short while).

Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google? As I said in-chat, there was something that I wanted to ask about before I put the pen to the paper for it. Namely:
The Caldera Rites
The island of Japan that Hoenn mirrors IRL happens to possess a supervolcano. Whose location coincides with that of the bay around Sakurajima Mt. Pyre. Seeing as we already HAD plans to incorporate a scenario involving the caldera as part of Hoenn's endgame... I felt like upping the in-story tension / ante a bit...
The idea that I had with this was as follows:
- The Weather Trio has a rite by which it uses to manipulate the behaviors of supervolcanoes... At a cost.
- This cost is the overworking of the Weather Trio in order to force a supervolcano to do as their rites demand. Which without sufficient external help, more or less dooms them to destruction.
- The destruction of a Weather Trio through one of these rites is NOT permanent. The performers will eventually regenerate over some inordinately long period of time (on the order of centuries at the least). But their posts are left vacant until either their regeneration is complete, or any kin (think Nix's relation to Ho-Oh) are there to assume them.
- The rite involves the Weather Trio opening up with an incantation that prepares them for their overwork (and makes their markings glowy for Rule of Cool). It can work from a distance if necessary due to geography, but requires ALL the members of a Trio to partake of it to work.
- From this point, a weather trio performing this rite is free to either invoke an incantation that triggers their Overwork Mode on behalf to quell, or fully awaken the supervolcano in question. (For obvious reasons, we'll only be doing the former.)
Some plot and backstory-related bits that I have been entertaining so far:
- The present Weather Trio is spared from destruction from their invocation of the rites to quell Mt. Pyre's Caldera via a combination of help from the players and the midget Weather Trio via All Your Powers Combined. They will still be rather worn out after all is said and done though.
- On the backstory side, and dovetailing into Umbra's proposal for Metagross and Alakazam precursor civilizations to humanity.
- Once upon an inordinately long time ago, Metagross and Alakazam were the top dogs in the Pokeverse and ruled over insanely technologically advanced societies. But also got into an all-out war with each other.
- One side wound up attempting to cause a supervolcano to go off - possibly Pyre Caldera, but not necessarily - as a weapon in order to deal a death blow to the other side (which, if you know anything about VEI 7-8 level volcanic eruptions, isn't good for ANYONE).
- The supervolcano in question was stopped by whatever Weather Trio was out and about at the time. In all possiblity the same as the present one, who sacrificed themselves to keep the thing from going off.
- Unfortunately for the Alakazam and Metagross, their folly was seen as too dangerous to tolerate by the rest of the Legendaries, and their civilizations were destroyed for their arrogance. A fall from which they never recovered.
- While preparing for the rites, the Weather Trio may mention the possibility that such a fate could befall humanity if they are destroyed, regardless if they succeed or not in stopping the caldera.
If you're thinking, "Hey, that sounds like it's from a video game or something!" Er... Well... It kinda is, in part. Which brings me to my last question:
How much to pull (assuming we roll with the darn proposal):
Since we do have precedence for pulling from games for other elements of the WAAPT-verse. Hence our Aperture Science PEFE HQ building... But I wanted to gauge whether doing so for something like this would be wise or not...
Thoughts and comments regarding any of these points are strongly encouraged. We have a February 7th deadline to make for ending Hoenn, and the fewer uncertainties we have for carrying out chunks of the plot, the better.

Not sure what to say about that ominous "may happen to humanity" line.
Anyhow, a point of order: PEFE is not fighting a telecom company for our souls, we are fighting the former owners of the telecom company who sold it to us. (Well, technically if they did get our souls through that contract then they'd still own the telecom anyways, but that's a point to be saved for the court.
)

I approve, Tracer. Susano could even mention it reminds him of a videogame! (The fact you incorporated MY proposal so well doesn't hurt either ;) )
I'd say that what's mentioned in the proposal is about as far as should be gone....because video game mini/subarcs are awesome, but basing the ENTIRE finale of a major plot (>implying Hoenn was major) off a video game a lot of people probably haven't played doesn't seem like such a great plan.
Unless Solatorobo is actually some world-famous game and I'm the only one who hasn't played it, in which case go ahead.
(Note: I'm not saying that this isn't a great idea. I'm just saying that it shouldn't be made blatantly clear in-universe that the event is an expy of a video game.)
Dunsparce didn't stop being a thing or anything.
