Basically, we all need to communicate better.
And as long as we don't just move the arguement of, for example, a planned plot point to foreshadow a future arc could fit into the setting an arc takes place in or not, to here instead of there, then I agree with moving some of the discussions to here.
Also, I'm guessing it is less likely for attempts to discuss the plot of an arc to be derailed so that all we really do is recap the plot points that have already been decided over and over without really getting anywhere if we talk about it here instead of the chat.
Wolf: nothing concerning you, I don't think...
You may or may not know:
- We are starting Hoenn soon (Everyone's wrapping up subplots now, or if they are wrapped up then participating in the Sevii Islands detour.) I assume you know this one.
- the Hoenn plot involves a revived Team Aqua and Magma, who are both being played by Ardos and getting terraforming equipment from Charon
- the actual impact by them is minor at first, only getting major near the climax
- I'll probably do some side scenes with Mew along the way, and maybe won't show up as Tangent until a week or two in
- Crewe has an epic Reveal coming later on, followed by a Mindscape miniarc
Got it.
I think my only dangling plot thread ATM is Tagg's problem with Wolf and Steven. I would like to get that dealt with before Hoenn.
Other than that, I think I put forward a suggestion that we gain the reformed Maxie and Archie as allies for Hoenn a little while ago. Did that ever go anywhere?
We vote we vote?
Yeah, insert adequate yo dawg joke here...

Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?@Wolf: Well, I have no problem with Archie and Maxie joining us as allies for the Hoenn arc.
Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite.Don't forget I make a short cameo. I probably won't do anything plot-important though.

Did anything happen with the Regis while I was gone? I intend to have them show up to do some stuff. I'm not sure if they're still my pokemon or if I released them, it's been a really long time since I rp'd here.
Please consider supporting my artwork on PatreonAlright.
Is there anything else I need to know before I'm ready to just jump back in?

Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?Ok, so here's a quick list of things needed to be discussed that were brought up briefly in the chat room.
- Parrise's Curse: There's some worries about other characters's privacy as well as consistency in writing (Is Parrise's curse only going to kick in when plot demands it, is it on ALL THE TIME, Or is it completely random)and the possibility of abuse.
- Ori's Nosebleeds: There's been some problems with the frequency of this running gag.
- Wrapping up the AU: A lot of players would like to move on from the AU, and we need to take account of the newer players who will probably suffer heavy Continuity Lock-Out if we keep constantly referring back to the AU arc, since it was so story intensive. Uh, solved. I think.

Yeah, I think we've established that the AU angst is settled, apart from a subplot in a Celedon visit a good ways down the line.
So, what I think we've decided:
- Team Aqua and Magma are active again, with the same goals as before.
- However, they are now operating legitimately. Getting permission / buying land outright for their terraforming projects, filing tax returns, etc.
- However, they are still causing ecological damage.
- As such, dealing with them will require a more diplomatic approach.
- Complicating matters, a series of natural disasters start hitting Hoenn.
- Neither Team is at fault, in fact. But both insist the other is responsible.
- The Gym Leaders may take sides as well.
- The goal, then, is to get the schism forming in Hoenn resolved.
Charon is related somehow, probably. Perhaps causing the disasters for some reason of his own, though I'd personally like to avoid another do-10000-HP-of-damage-to-the-boss finale.
Ardos may be tabled for now unless we can come up with an actual plan for using him. But that needn't be decided this early.
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?Stopping by to comment a couple of things. On issues with tropers:
- Ori's Nosebleeds: the only thing that caused me discomfort there was the sheer frequency. Hard to tell if it was being used as a joke or as a... what.
- Parisse's Mind Reading: that was discussed in the chatroom. The only thing that worried me was the depth of reading, whether it could read semi-formed or transient thoughts. Such things have been resolved.
- Wrapping up the AU: eeeehh... seems to be mostly solved.
Now, to the pressing issue in my opinion.
Use of the Chatroom for RP development
The metaevents of the last weeks surely have caught the attention of you peoplemons. First it was Anom's issues, then Luke's issues, sometimes Crewe's issues, or Tagg's issues. Now, I don't have issue, no pun intended, with us having issues and treating them in the chatroom, but the planning for the Hoenn arc and beyond has brought out some unhealthy trends in our behaviour that I think are very important news damaging to the RP and to us as a whole.
As I have mentioned sometime, the chatroom as a medium lends itself to a sort of GIFT Effect. When we get in there, we support our own positions in the different debates. However, as of the latest days we are defending our positions and stretching debates way over the point where it is reasonable. Take for example that people like Luke are going to sleep at 4 AM because of the Hoenn plot discussions. People like him and me pretty much spend a good portion of our days paying the chatroom and the RP more than a trivial level of attention.
Now, tiemzones can be blamed for some of that (all my hæt) but the core issue as I feel it is that, most of the days, once we start discussing, we don't stop. We keep posting and posting and start moving from the overall debate, whichever it is, to arguments in circles, until one of us gets tired and/or fed up and logs out. Not a good way to end the day or build mood for the next one, if you ask me.
Add to that that we are overusing the chatroom as a means to make decisions about the RP. While it is a good way to communicate, it is not a good way of passing policy, considering that we don't have a central GM-ing authority for the RP. So it comes down to the point where we start more or less wildly throwing out plot ideas, only for the next poster down the line shutting it down
saying "I don't like it, don't want it" and then sticking with that, without further (senseful) discussion by both sides. The problem? We tire ourselves out pingponging and eventually one of us feels attacked.
Given the events in the last days and after a quick check of the time we spend discussing (thanks, public logs) I'd suggest we plan our usage of the chatroom a bit better, for example: dedicating only up to a certain amount of hours to discuss each subject, assigning important decisions solely to this thread (or spoilers in RP thread), and recapping ideas here once we're done discussing them in the chatroom.
Opinions on this issue?

Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?I think that's more or less right, there's too much strife coming out of the chatroom when compared to going in. The place is supposed to make the RP essentially easier to work with. If large planning must be done, I say do it on the discussion thread. It's easier to collect and present our opinions here without the time constraints.
There is no night without dawn. The sun is always sure to rise.I'm completely in the dark about what happens in the chatroom, but if the discussion are dragging themselves all the way out to that extent then the only course of action I can think of is to just stop talking about the ideas for it and put them on the shelf until we actually get to the point in real time where we can start discussing it again. Over-planning things tend to make them drag out for ages, from what I've seen and experienced here in the RP.
Please consider supporting my artwork on PatreonWell, we do want to make sure we all know the overall plan... we've gotten bit by Poor Communication Kills before.
But arguing in circles is definitely wasting time... maybe it's better if we adopt an "introduce ideas in discussion thread before discussing in chat" policy.
As well as "decisions don't count unless posted in discussion thread".
And maybe an "if you disagree with an idea, submit some alternative of your own" policy so that we pick between two concrete ideas instead of "this/something else" arguments. But I somehow doubt that will go over well.
Anyhow, good night. Looking forward to your revisit, Jane.

Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?

The instantaneousness and Wall-of-Texting of the chatroom lends itself to worsen this kind of problems, because it triggers a sort of GIFT effect, where the lack of anonimity is covered by the ability to insist on one's opinion until one can make the other party disconnect (there's a trope for that, I know it). My short discussion with Wolf about viviparity in the RP comes to mind, while shortlived and not as serious as other discussions that have populated the chatroom.
The chatroom does not really work for notification of problems, and only works for discussion where enough involved people are there at once. If we have to notify an issue to better discuss it, posting here or in main thread's spoilertext should be done instead of waiting three weeks down the road.
