Well, it should be noted first and foremost that the Audience Surrogate is not, in fact, an Audience Reaction. I think it's pretty rare for fans to actually use this guy as a surrogate, especially since a lot of them are frankly boring. In fact, I think characters intended to be the Audience Surrogate are more likely to become The Scrappy (although I have no real factual basis for this).
So, I'm guessing it wouldn't matter much to Jerkass Dissonance if the victim is the Audience Surrogate or not.

So we got Jerkass Dissonance, a phenomenon in which the fans can tolerate the Jerkass qualities of a character because of many reasons, but mainly because "he/she isn't being a jerk at us, so we wouldn't care".
Then there's Audience Surrogate, a character in which the fans can put themselves on, since said character represents what the fans think about the story.
Now the problem is: If the Jerkass is being a jerk at the Audience Surrogate, what would happen? It essentially can be said like this: "I don't like that jerk because of what they do to him/her [the Audience Surrogate]" (which, in other words: the Jerkass, by proxy, is being a jerk to the fans), yet said jerk is a cool/aspiring/whatever characters whom the fans also root on.
What's your opinion?
