[up]That's almost a given.

Hylarn, how often do you change your avatar? I never see you with the same one twice.

Whenever I find a new piece of art that fits my standards and avatarizes well. I will switch it back to an old one if it's been a while since I've found anything, but that doesn't happen often

Just raid Safebooru for an hour or two, and you'll find at least 100 avatar-worthy pictures.

Rascal, where's yours from? It looks familiar.

Also, Does anyone think my WMG concerning mikuni's descent into villianry will happen? Given the mind screw nature of this anime, I'm worried it may be too cliche.

...I guess the non-humanoid Assets are male. Considering how the humanoid ones are all female.

Mikuni's goat-butler not-a-goat-butler seems male, and it's definitely humanoid.

[up]Let me put it a different way: All the assets that are human size-and-shape are clearly female, while the others are clearly larger and/or different shapes.

First let it be said that Msyu is Deliciously Flat Chested!wink

Contrary to the popular opinion [C] isn't Pokemon or Yu-gi-oh with economics. It's Shin Megami Tensei: Persona.

I previously posted that Deals aren't business transactions played out as magic battle monster battles. They're Wizard Duels with a veneer of economics placed over them to better mesh with modern world. Now acting on the above theory I believe that one of criteria for Entres being selected is having a high magical aptitude/spiritual power; something that is commonly depicted as being hereditary.

It's really fascinating that hotblooded and loud Msyu is rather calm and focused. While gentle(seeming) and soft spoken Q has berserk tendencies so strong that she must be restrained at all times.

Actually, now that you mention it it does seem like Persona.

Incidentally, has anyone noticed the patterns on the roads that lead to the centre of the Financial District? They have the Sephirotic Tree of Life on them. If Evangelion has taught us anything, it should be that that symbol NEVER means anything good.

[up]Another thing. Has anyone detected a Stealth Pun to do with the Assets? All the humanoid Assets (Q, Msyu, etc.) are flat-chested. There's got to be some economics joke to do with the fact that the Assets themselves don't have assets.

That counter at the center of the Financial District, has there been any explanation on what it is counting? I get the feeling that it is the flow of money into the real world from the financial district, if that is the case then wouldn't that constant flow of money cause hyper-inflation and ultimately devalue the currency of what ever nation it flows into? If that is the case then it could explain Sato's motivation in the show.

It's certainly NOT the realtime GDP of Japan, which was my first thought. It's sitting at around 7.6 trillion Yen (roughly 96 billion USD), and it's going up at a rate of around 1000 yen every second. Maybe it's the realtime net worth of Midas Bank?

Cammy_G from Daten City Since: Dec, 2009
#212: May 15th 2011 at 1:37:05 AM

Doesn't the Midas Bank make their money through the investment they put in entre's futures, meaning that they only gain worth when someone wins money? Wouldn't that mean that it should only rise after duels?

With the amount of Entrepreneurs in the Financial District, it's not impossible that there is always a Deal taking place.

All Deals take a maximum of 666 seconds (11m6s) to complete. Which means that for there to be Deal going on at all times, there must be at least 909 Entrepreneurs in the Financial District. In a nation the size of Japan, that's less than one thousandth of one percent of the population.

That is always a possibility, but that makes Mikuni's claim of having more than 50% of the Financial District in his guild even more unrealistic.

Considering multiple duels seem to take place at once, and that duels are mandatory, adding onto the fact that there are multiple Financial Districts...

Cammy_G from Daten City Since: Dec, 2009
#216: May 15th 2011 at 1:47:31 AM

All of this raises the question: Why does the Financial District need to accrue such a high amount of wealth, and what effect does Midas Money have on the real world?

RiotousRascal Since: Dec, 2010
#217: May 15th 2011 at 1:54:14 AM

7.6 trillion yen is about 1.9% of the current GDP of Japan, and there are probably a number of large corporations with net worth approaching that figure.

My guess is that the Midas Money is a Red Herring. With that bill design? It's just too obviously evil to be actually evil.

Saigyouji Since: Dec, 2010
#218: May 15th 2011 at 1:56:22 AM

Except that it's only obvious to the viewer and Entres. That throws up some huge alarm bells. As well as the fact that if an Entre tries to get out of this, they probably get bankrupted by default.

Even if the Midas Money is a Red Herring, it does not mean that the Midas Bank wont be the main antagonist. I doubt that they are doing this out of an altruistic desire to reward the strong fighters.

I have a theory that Masakaki is actually the Asset of the Midas Bank itself. And that Mikuni and Yoga will fight him at some point.

I just had an minor epiphany: The main page states that the way the bankruptcy rules work is that quote, "Anything that Midas Money has made possible to the entre is taken away. This can mean possessions, businesses, even people.".

Now then: What exactly has Kimimaro used Midas Money for, exactly? What has it made possible for him? Nothing so far. This is why Kimimaro must be so dangerous, and worth Mikuni's time. He's the only one who can fight at max efficiency, because he has nothing to lose.

But if that's true, a similar argument could be made for Jennifer Sato as well. She doesn't seem to have used her money from Deals in any capacity, and she also seems to be quite a capable Entre.

Right, but she's clearly got her own agenda, so she's not nearly as safe to court.

Of course, the problem with that interpretation is that losing does have an effect on Kimimaro; he failed one of his courses thanks to losing his deal this episode, and that was a tiny loss.

Oh, and Mukuni never claimed to have 50% of the financial district under his control. He has something more along the lines of 30%, with 50% being his goal.

[up]Yes, but He can always re-take that course. It's a lot different than say, losing your entire business or losing your children (and later wife, as well). Based on what we've seen, ~95% of all bankruptcies result in the Entre committing suicide. Failing a course isn't really the necessary despair level needed to off oneself.

Edit: Also, how exactly did Midas Money make children possible? Its not like Midas money impregnated the wife, is it? Hospital bills, maybe?
