Sorry to re-start this, and also for it being half off-topic, but I'm planning on not only getting into this franchise, but also all of Shirow's works, but here's the thing, given that I heard Real Drive is in the SAC universe, and that Appleseed and Kokaku Kitodai / Gi TS are tied to each other by way of plot points, and based on what DRCEQ said here, this is the question: If the Appleseed and KK / Gi TS manga are in one continuity, then what about the former's animated works? Which animated work of Appleseed matches with each KK / Gi TS animated work on continuity?

Umm most of Masamune Shirow continuities share much the same geopolitical climate and basically could fit into each other's timelines, even Koukaku No Pandora. Their adaptations are almost always consistent with this.
The American Empire / Imperial Americana is a general antagonist rather consistently and makes up pretty much the US south.
Speaking of the American Empire... Why the hell would a splinter state of the old United States of America that is dominated by pre-splintering conservatives and defense industry corps title itself as a form of monarchy? Or is "empire" supposed to be taken in its non-monarchic sense and as a blatant admission of its ambition for restoring the US (embodied in itself, with all other claimants as illegitimate pretenders) to hyperpowerhood in the world scene?

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. The American Empire in Git S is basically a shadow of greatness, they are very power hungry and are doing everything they can with their limited resources to gain power via underground deals and such. Basically they are led by Trump. They were a huge thing Second Gig.
The north and the west put their pasts with Russia behind them and enter an alliance with the actually nice democratic Russia. Some hints seem to include Canada in this too
All the old rivalries boil to the surface between them. While the Midwest wants to keep the old Union and keeps the USA name and tries to basically keep the peace and aspires to unify the country again.
That's using general directions though some states are odd balls like Washington state is part of the USA and not the Russo-American Alliance unlike Oregon and California.
Pretty much all the 'bad spying or theft done by an outside power' in Git S is done by the American Empire now that I think about it.

Okay, but what about Arise? Is it in either one of the past continuities, or is it in a separate continuity?
I'm rather confused that the District of Columbia — the seat of the federal government — is part of the Russo-American Alliance rather than the USA remnant.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Edit: Woops, I misread that.
D.C. tends to get lumped in with either Virginia or the New England region. After the Civil War, it's generally assumed to go with the North. Midwest is generally considered "that stuff we have to fly over that isn't the ocean" by everyone who doesn't live here. Not terribly surprising.
Arise is a seperate continuity from other Git S works.

Arise is a seperate continuity from other Git S works.
Thanks
Since the break up happened after WWIII, umm how do we know that DC still exists and is not some crater? The war would certainly unify the country temporarily but after that it would devolve into bickering without the seat of power basically.
Good point, especially since the USA is said to be among the countries that were worst hit by said war. Perhaps a Shattered Union-like scenario erupted, only without an EU "peacekeeping" force or a Russian invasion involved (unless the Russo-American Alliance's government is actually a puppet of the Russian Federation that was installed after the Russians launched a "humanitarian intervention" operation).
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Reading the manga before starting with the animated adaptations, and I have this to ask: If America is split in three, then how is NATO still existing, per this excerpt from Chapter 2:
Aramaki: That's right. It's one of the government's brainwashing centers... They got out of hand, motivated by greed, so we made an example of them. The two members of parliament who "resigned" because of this were NATO spies...
Either NATO no longer includes the US (and may have replaced it with another member), or one of those three countries has inherited the old USA's seat.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. And this is another "think your ideas through" moment: NATO has no "spies" unless the writer was lazy and just meant the spy to be from a NATO member.
INTERPOL has no officers, it's just an information clearing house, NATO staff is just there to help the members co-ordinate their defense.
I assume that the writer thought NATO has spies the way people assume INTERPOL has agents.
All night at the computer, cuz people ain't that great. I keep to myself so I won't be a case on The First 48Quite unsure which of the three segments would still be in NATO.
Russo-American Alliance sounded like they were on their own with pretty much every industrial center in the US and potentially all of Canada,
The American Empire is Trump's vision of America, a power hungry imperialist state deploying troops all over the world wasting away what power it had. That also backstabs it's allies in a quest for any potential short term gain in some continuities. Infested with crime due to government ineptitude, corporations are the real power and have their own police forces. They wouldn't really want to have their power wasted in NATO.
The USA really has no Atlantic access and implied to have like no real power aside from Midwest nukes to keep the peace between the other two.
Actually now that I think about it NATO still existing seems odd considering the EC, GITS's name for the EU, are rivals with the Americas and Japan.

Then perhaps NATO has undergone considerable shifts in membership as well as the details of its mandate.
Watched Ghost in the Shell this morning. I thought it was pretty good! Visuals were well-directed and the dub was decent enough. Story slipped at times and I'm not sure if the ending sits well with me, but I really liked some of the ideas it brought up and it certainly had its moments.
but HOW?Kenji Kamiyama announced on his twitter that he may have news regarding the SAC 'verse. He didn't elaborate further.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Wow...what a tease.
It's been awhile since we've seen any SAC content. I hope this pans out to something real and tangible.
Ghost in the Shell's Tachikoma Robots Under Development for Use in Customer Service
The project's current goals is to have the half-size Tachikoma available in stores for use as customer service. They will be able to greet customers and hand over their purchases. They will be controlled through customers' individual smartphone apps. The app, Virtual Agent Tachikoma, lets you raise your own Tachikoma and give it the personality type and lines you desire. When customers go to the store, their in-app Tachikoma will synch with the in-store Tachikoma and transfer the personality. The developers stated that "as a result of safety considerations," the Tachikoma will be only half-independent.
I want one.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellSo no Tachikoma's weaponising the liar's paradox against lesser A.I.s and sneaking out for a day on the town. Awwww
Having finished Innocence a week ago, I have this to ask: During the climax where Batou infiltrated the Locus Solus ship, the Gynoids go berserk, and when Locus Solus security personnel responded, their rifles couldn't penetrate them. How come Batou's rifle could?
Welp.
Mileena MadnessFunny that this got announced because I'm watching Stand Alone Complex right now.
I like it, but it's a really weird case for me where I feel like the main draw is its world, politics, technology, ideas etc being so damn interesting, rather than the characters/drama as in the vast majority of anime. Of course Yoko Kanno's music and the excellent visuals also help it a lot.
My main complaint is that it's very dense and doesn't spend much time properly introducing a lot of the concepts, so it's easy to get lost. I honestly feel like I should have read the manga beforehand to get a better grasp of the geopolitics and technology.

Which manga? Original or the SAC manga adaptation? Because if you're referring to the former, stuff like the United States being split into three is SAC only as a nod to Appleseed, which was also Masamune Shirow.
Update the character sheets? Ain't nobody got time for that....
