So, as a counterpoint to the other thread, this is where we talk about entries that we find incredibly amusing and intelligent. To start us out, I present the entirety of Real Life, which had me cracking up when I first read it.

Well let's not derail this into a "This Troper" bitchfest.

<Mod hat ON>

I am completely boggled by the fact that immediately after it's pointed out that a derail into a "This Troper" bitchfest is a bad idea, the thread takes a distinct turn toward being just that.

Entries, people. "Entries that make you LOL". Not "Snarking at the people who make entries that are now gone that you think were stupid." It's really a pretty easy distinction to make.

I'm kind of disappointed that the thread hasn't been that active in I don't know how long.

Deadpool's page is hilarious.

He's like fire and ice and rage. He's ancient and forever. He burns at the centre of time. Rory punched him in the face.

lol so many posts deleted...

I find it funny than for some threads, ONE post its enough for it to get itself closed, yet heres half the page with posts deleted and barely anything happended...

I am not sure if I should be glad or not. I dont want another thread closed.

It tends to depend if the thread is all bad or it was just a derail.

I dislike post-thumping simply because it feels like censoring history, of which I disapprove. It's better than deleting the thread, though.

It does tend to definitively draw a line under something that went problematic, though.

Plus, you are allowed to ask what happened. I mean, the things don't become unpersons. It just sort of gets...arrested. grin

[up][up]That is true.

[up]Yes, but unless you copied and pasted the text before it got thumped, you'll never know exactly what any of the posts said.

The mods and the original poster can view it, though — it's not completely lost. In most cases I'd let someone know via PM so long as they were being reasonable and not trying to prolong the drama.

You should be able to laugh about yourself too. If I go to school dressed as Sonic The Hedgehog I'll have to expect people laughing at me.

I'd prefer if people didn't laugh at something that made me happy.

Good natured ribbing is fine, but there is a spectrum.

I disapprove of thumping because I feel that deleting posts is hardly a punishment for someone breaking the rules.

That and they do not avoid most people from reading it. Only the people who come in late. And I think that's hadly enough to avoid discussions going out of hand and into ad hominem territory. Granted, I can't think of a way to get around this issue except mods acting quick and thus, I can't exactly solve it, but I think that it can be solved. —shrug—

The thumps themselves are not supposed to be punishment, though the record of their being handed out IS a disciplinary sheet of a sort. It's more supposed to be (a) a symbolic WE WILL NOT TOLERATE THAT and (b) to prevent people from showing up late, reading back and restarting the fight.
