Star Wars and "Ascended Central Characters"?

I was watching the Red Letter Media analysis of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and it was pointed out that the whole business of Darth Vader being the prophesied "chosen one" who ties the events of the saga together wasn't introduced until Episode I. It was obviously done in direct response to the character's popularity. I've been wracking my brain for the appropriate Mary Sue trope to describe that phenomenon, but can't think of it. Do we have one? We must.

What's the trope for when a character gets treated as special in the universe because the fans think he's special? (I guess "Ascended Central Characters" isn't even remotely accurate. It's more like "Fan Sue.")

Firstly, I seriously doubt that Mary Sue tropes have anything to do with this. When will people get it into their heads that it actually does have a specific meaning rather than being a catch-all complaint phrase?

Secondly, this question is supposed to go on Lost And Found, as is mentioned in the pinned threads at the top. In the interests of saving your time, though, the correct trope is likely Ensemble Dark Horse or something very closely related - check that page.
