...Why?
...Again, why?

Maybe I'm just annoyed with it being completely unfitting to White Pony and a byproduct of Executive Meddling. It's an okay song.
...sweet merciful fuck, I've turned into Chuggles, haven't I?
As for "Back to School", meh. I'm just gonna agree with what Litis thinks. Luckily for me, my totally-purchased-in-a-store-so-shut-up copy of White Pony has that track at the tail end of the disc. Rap-metal doesn't really gel with how I think of Deftones. It's too confrontational and blunt, pretty much the antithesis of the band's atmospheric sound and Chino's poetic lyrics. Also, if you're gonna dumb down your sound for a single because the label said so, then why not insert a verse explicitly telling the execs to go fuck themselves? Lupe knows how it's done.

"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt." - Some guy with a snazzy hat. It's okay. I still think you're both wrong. Not only is that a good song that gels with the rest of the album, it's not even outside their style of music. That album was better for adding that track for the simple fact of making the second half of Pink Maggit into a reprise/callback making it feel as though the album's come full circle, rather than just another good song.

I suspect "Back to School" is actually a remix. The singing sounds far too verbatim.
@Kitsune: Holy fucking shit. And here I was thinking I'm the chief Ninja Editor here.
I was going to post a Wire intro mix, but the fact remains that when it comes to making comprehensive lists, I have no editing capabilities whatsoever. In the end, I'd probably just say, "BUY EVERYTHING, FOOL!"
Or, well, "Buy the first three LPs. Then The A-List, and Coatings, and IBTABA. Also get The First Letter, because it's much better than people give it credit for. Oh, and Vien, and Send Ultimate, too. And Read & Burn 03..."
Yes, really. I have my obsessions.

I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.@Nyktos: Very funny. This band supports piracy. Plus, you know the song'll be on You Tube the day the album comes out.
There are snakes in the grass, so we'd better go hunting!Sure, let's give this a try. I think I struck a good balance between picking my favorites and providing variety.

There are snakes in the grass, so we'd better go hunting!Okay, how about one of my favorites that would actually need an introduction? I'd just recommend 300 Percent Density, but let's pretend this is directed towards someone who doesn't really listen to anything heavier than modern hard rock/"alternative" metal.
- "Remove Yourself" | What Doesn't Kill You...
- "Sirens" | Kiss the Lie
- "Observing Highways" | Surrealistic Madness
- "Method of Expression" | The Process of Self-Development
- "Without Water" | 300 Percent Density
- "Three Times Again" | The Process of Self-Development
- "Primary Obstacle" | The C.O.M.A. Imprint
- "Mental Politics" | Beyond Reasonable Doubt
- "9mm Solution" | What Doesn't Kill You...

"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt." - Some guy with a snazzy hat....Watch this:
- Somewhat Damaged
- We're In This Together
- Just Like You Imagined
- Pilgrimage
- No You Don't
- The Great Below
- Where Is Everybody?
- I'm looking Forward To Joining You, Finally
- The Big Come Down
- Underneath It all
...See that? I just cut out over half the album and it still holds together perfectly, while hitting all the high points. If that isn't bloated, I don't know what is.
The 5 geek social fallacies. Know them well. Then how is it sellout? I think the instrumentals in The Fragile are Trent at his most artistic (not talking mostly So Bad, It's Good lyrics here). Yeah, he played down the industrial elements quite a bit. Did that really matter though?
Not to mention it failed to reach Interscope's expectations, so it's not sellout profit-wise by any means.

Starfuckers is good, it just didn't belong there.
The thing is is that the album was one big step in the wrong direction, putting the mopeyness Up To Eleven while moving to a softer tone. He made this work later with more Dark Ambient stuff like Ghosts I - IV and The Slip by getting his abrasive edge back, but this was just embarrassing to listen too.

This was tough because I love too many They Might Be Giants songs. Also, I decided to go in chronological order. It kind of stops around the late 90's because I guess that was when I stopped being as big a fan (though I do like a decent amount of their newer stuff and there's a few things from 2000 and beyond I'd throw in if I had enough space):
If you're reading the second page of this thread for some silly reason, I have now grooveshark'd this
. I could not find the studio version of "Why Does The Sun Shine" though.
