Is it too late to join the Character Carnival? I had to baby-sit tonight, and when I got there were almost 50 posts.
Join whenever you want. Last time, we had people joining as late as five posts before the explosive conclusion.
I take notes and make diagrams in my notebooks once in a while, but I haven't written any stories in them recently. I used to do it a lot before we moved, when I was still in school. I'd have a hour long bus ride to campus, both ways, so I had a lot of free time to write or do whatever on the way to school. Now thoughÖ I don't know, I guess its not quite as convenient anymore.
On outlines... we don't work well together. I can manage to consolidate what the hell is going on after the scenes have started themselves up, but I've never been able to deal with a beginning to end outline.
No words yet, but have two scenes in mind to write about. Should make today fairly easy.
Sigh, well while of you guys work away some stuff has happened and I have been too depressed to get out of sitting around being lonely on the web let alone type anything.
i wish I could join Character Carnival, but I have to go back to uni in a week and I know I won't have time.
I am, for all practical purposes, unable to handwrite anymore.
It actually to the point for me where I typed so often that I was slower at handwriting than I had been in middle school.
I will become ashamed of that trend and then hide my deficiency by typing even more.
Wow, 104 posts in 17 hours for Carnival! Is that normal for a Character thread, or did we break a record.
That's... faster than A Game Of Chance moved at launch, and everyone was ninja'ing each other's ninjas. It got around 85 posts in that span of time. What was I doing, even though I'm a GM? Sleeping.
I'm not sure if that's normal, though. I don't know what timezones our participants are from, 'cause there was posting going on at all hours of the night on my end.
I'm in Pacific Time, and I stayed up till almost 2 am posting, so...
I think I'm definitely hooked on the Character threads.
Suddenly I managed to solve a What Happened to the Mouse? problem, after I realized there IS a mouse, and got it all fitting with the story. And all because of describing the Raging Stiffie spell.
I just realized today's my day off, now I feel more pathetic than ever and ready to post. By the way, my timezone is -3 GMT.
I think I may be pulling myself out of my own self imposed writer's ghetto!
Also I keep seeing these character castles and carnivals, are they actual serious stories or more just messing around for fun/learning? Do people use characters they already have or completely new ones?
As far as I know, just a simple writing exercise.
EDIT: Also, preexisting characters.

You're supposed to use preexisting, characters, then use the threads to develop them. Like, I'm using this thread to develop my 'verse's exorcists, ghosts, and demons. Every now and again, a troper will craft an entirely new character out of whole cloth just for the thread, and they may never be seen again.
Oh great. Now I hit another hurdle, as I can't write transitions. I need to get from point A to point C, but I have a hard time writing point B.
Just leaving this here till I get back.
A century-long war started over territorial disputes concerning nomads: Silly Reason for War or sufficiently controversial?
Maybe if the parties were absurdly protective over something in their territory, perhaps.
Depends on the nomads. Are they more Roma, Bedouin or Mongol...?
Whoa, 326 in three days...is it normal?
While I was at an Easter service, I used eight prayer cards to write down a beginning of a story. You never know when you have a burst of inspiration!
I am pleased to say that Carnival is a hit, compared with the two last threads. Although things may slow down this week, I am hoping to conclude it successfully next weekend or next week.
All I need is to put some more effort into my posts.
Let's see... I'll come up with some Character Development Thread statistics. How long did each thread last, not counting post-thread chatter?
Yeah, aside from Snowflake, we seem to be right on schedule. However, wrapping the entire thread up in seven days seems a little... fast. People have lives during the week.
