I still trust the government in terms of ideals. In terms of competence, maybe or maybe not, I'm not sure I'm qualified to judge whether they're competent or not.
But I definitely don't think the government is some sort of huge faceless inhuman thing that only wants to bleed me dry of money and stamp on my freedoms, the way a lot of Americans seem to.
It's just a group of human beings. With all the issues that come with that.
Be not afraid...It's on topic this topic is about distrust of the government and I’m voicing my distrust in their abilities. I never understood the expression "tinfoil hat" where did that originate?

We must survive, all of us. The blood of a human for me, a cooked bird for you. Where is the difference?Because it allows the organized body to coerce others. Tomu has painstakingly convinced me that humans are not meant to be social animals because of this. Or have no business existing since they can not develop otherwise.

We must survive, all of us. The blood of a human for me, a cooked bird for you. Where is the difference?Houses never are built so shoddily they fall apart every day, but without a decent building code they do fall apart. And kill people.
Ah the classic appeal like what happened in Haiti where the entire city of Port Au Prince folded in on itself and flattened liked a poorly stacked house of cards when a comparison city in Japan, the western US, Chile, and Peru would have survived a 7.0 quake relatively intact.
True building codes make for better buildings to withstand disasters. My point however was that the original "point" was phrased in such a way as to have you believe that despite 1000s of years of building experience, you can't build a house that will actually stay together on its own with nothing happening without the government brandishing the whip over the builders' heads.

Everything humanity has achieved is because of us being social animals. If we were not social animals, we would still be living like the majority of animals still do. With no technology beyond a bent stick or two, and nothing resembling art or culture.
You can't separate the social aspect of humanity out. It's one of the most important things that defines us as a species.

Be not afraid...The funny thing is, covering your whole body in tinfoil actually would work as a Faraday cage.

@Major Tom: I take it you've never been outside of a developed country, then.
Houses never are built so shoddily they fall apart every day, but without a decent building code they do fall apart. And kill people.
EDIT @tnu: Sucks? Do you use roads or not? How about money?
Explain a way to do either of those privately without massive tolls on one or corrupting the entire concept of currency on the other.
