^I know - should be 26, actually. I wasn't sure if they were going to do something special for the end of the spring season or not, given that it's basically the halfway point.

Oh Ohana, kidnapping? Never change.

I... kinda want to start shipping Minchi/Ko just because of the symmetry.

And Tohru.... Oh dear.

And Minchi's reaction trying to backtrack :p

Great episode. I think probably the best one thus far. So many little character bits.

Poor Minchi. She gets what's going on with Tohru, but Ohana doesn't seem to yet.

...Really, Ohana? Gonna kidnap your mom?

...And she's planned it out relatively well, too. As expected, I suppose.

Well, Igarashi seems like a good catalyst for getting Ohana to finally give Ko an answer one way or the other...

...unfortunately, she's also apparently kind of a nasty person. She has the right idea, but she doesn't need to call Ohana creepy.

Nervous magazine Minchi! Hnnnnnngh-

...poor Minchi. She wasn't signing up for an eating contest, Tohru!

Okay, the halfway mark: Ohana continues to beat herself up, and Tohru has slipped back toward the jerk end of the scale a bit.

...Giant sushi pillow?

...God, really? I thought the patched version was supposed to fix those missing lines! I can understand without the subs, but come on. That's just unprofessional.

Really, Tohru? Sucking up to the older woman with concert tickets?

Ninjaohana!

I hope Ohana turns out like a less-strict version of Sui rather than a harder-working version of Satsuki.

...Huh. Though I have to say, I don't think Satsuki's as bad a person as I used to. She's definitely not as nice to Ohana as she should be, and she wasn't a very good mother, but she might(?) end up being a good person... maybe...?

Also: I really, really want that cello version of the OP.

The missing lines are Crunchyroll's fault. Which is even more unprofessional.

They're not even complicated lines, either. It's like...

Tohru: Alright, slowly...
Minchi: If he gets it...
*Phone rings*
Tohru: Ah, damnit!
Minchi: Uh, hello?\\

I really wish people wouldn't refer to individual cours of a 2 cour show as "seasons", its unnecessarily confusing.

How so? There's four seasons á 13 weeks a year. (Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall) that adds up to 52 weeks, an entire year.

Yes, but it implies some demarcation that doesn't have any great significance. Saying that a new "season" of Hanasaku Iroha will start with episode 14 is silly. Nothing of the sort happens. There was no break, no demarcation other than moving into the second half of the run, so why use that terminology, other than to be unnecessarily confusing?

A show (and before you even start, I'm referring to shows that are 4 cour or below, long runners don't count here, so don't bring them up, ok?) "belongs" to the season it starts airing in. Hanasaku Iroha is a Spring 2011 show, and will continue to be noted as such, even when the Summer 2011 season starts next month.

[up][up] Not really, an anime season is not the same thing as an ecological season. Think about how the western TV "season" takes a whole year, with only a short winter break, and a three month seasonal-divide in the summer, yet it's still one sason. There, even if something only lasts for 10-13 episodes, like Dexter in the Fall, or Game Of Thrones in the past 3 months, it isn't a half-season long series, it's a half-long season for these series, compared to the norm.

In the end, it's the shows that have seasons, not the whole media. It's more coincidential that most anime happens to be 13 episodes long, and match the ecological seasons, so we can talk about "spring season", but really, that only means "a collection of of series, that is mostly defined by that list of 13 episode anime seasons airing in it". So if one anime doesn't fit it, it has a twice as long season, not two seasons.

Tohru really should've gotten on the bed with Minchi just so we would see what would happen. Too bad he's after Ohana.

... I wanted to see some kidnapping. :(

Tohru's stress relief methods are... interesting, to say the least. Poor Minchi. Forced to eat till she barfs by a guy who, aside from not noticing her feelings, is blatantly displaying a crush on another girl. But I guess at least she got sushi stuffed toys! And we get to see her shy side.

Argh Ohana and Ko are really making my mind whirl. What is up with that 'see ya'? Does that mean they're through? There is that bookstore chick... I will be totally overjoyed if and when we get to an episode where Ohana talks it out with Ko instead of missing each other.

Concert tickets plus a chance to make some good impressions. Nice one, Tohru.

I fear the next episode.

So, I read the Jiroumaru chapter of the manga. Its a bit different.

Jiroumaru said he planned to frame Ohana for stealing the manuscript ever since she first arrived at the inn. He runs off after catching Ohana with the real porny manuscript instead of kidnapping her and tying her up. They run on foot to the cliff with Nako following so there's no car chase sequence. The "tell me your least favorite foods" thing hasn't come up yet. And Nako also has a "I want to shine" introspective moment. Everybody else from the inn only arrives after all the drama so they miss the "I want to shine" speech from Ohana.

Also, there's a bunch of short comics at the end of the chapter featuring Ohana trying to get someone to help her study.

Wow, that was a great episode. Apparently Ohana can get drunk on soda. I dunno how but whatever.

I'm glad Ohana is doing her own thing to deal with Ko-chan. She knows the difference between giving up and letting go.

Oh, and for the more obsessive shippers out there, there's a new potential pairing for you to justify: Satsuki x Nako.

Oddly enough I can see Nako>Satsuki working. Nako has pretty low self-esteem, so I can see how she'd be attracted to someone with lots of it (or at least who knows how to fake it)

I love the little family skirmishing going on. Everyone knows exactly what to say to set each other on edge, yet are forced to stay at last outwardly civil. You don't get hat kind of quality animosity with strangers.

And if anything I'm kind of shipping Tomoe/young master. They seem to have a decent rapport.

And Satsuki? Your daughter is short, yes, but THICK? Have you lost all eyesight?

Ohana casually ignoring the heron=Win.

It kind of confused me for a second there when falshback!Satsuki was voiced by Ohana's VA. The flashback was fun in itself too.

Satsuki's requests were LOL-worthy.

That feels like an obvious censorship thing, since getting her daughter drunk feels like somehting Satsuki WOULD do...

What's up with the Running Gag of Beanman being the subject of inapproporiate displays of affection!?

Nako's eyes did the same thing when Satsuki was right up in her face praising her looks as they did when she found out about Jiromaru's little slashfic. Sexuality seems to trigger an instant BSOD for her. Thank goodness for fan art!

Also, if Beanman isn't gay, then the show is trying really hard to push the running gag that he might be. Complete disinterest in Satsuki in the bath flashback, but a he gets a nice blush on whenever there's a suggestive moment between him and another male cast member. Always played for laughs.

I was thinking about what Satsuki and her brother and their relationship with thier mom reminded me off, and now I figured it out.

The Bible. Seriously, it's the parable of the prodigal son.

The essential part of the Prodigal Son parable is that the father instantly forgives his son for all his misdeeds. Sui does her best to stay away from Satsuki, and only barely starts to warm up after drinking a bit.

[up] That's not the point I was thinkin about actually, more about the resentment the son who stayed at home felt. (becaue it's clear the mother and daughter are far closer, despite their differences, than the mother and son)

Hm. This was certainly Enishi's episode for getting hit, wasn't it? Though I must say, I don't think Sui likes Takako any more than I do.

Sui is so dedicated. Her logbook is just amazing.

...This may not be the place to comment, but Nako's uniform actually does hint at her figure, it seems. Or maybe it's just me.

More of 'a woman' than a 'mother'. Point, Ohana.

Sui and Ohana team up! Good work, ladies.

Sake, three cans of beer, soda... and the three women of the Shijima family. This is a recipe for fun.

Aaand Sui chugs it!

Two-tiered relationship advice. Yes.

Yes, Satsuki, you did get told. Point, Sui.

Yet again, I just don't know what to make of Satsuki. She seems like she's willfully being a terrible parent and an overall flaky person, but then this kind of thing happens...

My god, I can see the Nako>Satsuki.

Like someone up above said, letting go doesn't mean giving up. Good for you, Ohana. I'm beginning to like Ohana/Ko more, now.

And hey, the ending's different. Though I realize this is a 26-episode show, this really does feel like the end of 'season 1'...

Holy shit beach episode. With Ohana and Yuina attempting to get Minchi to actually act like she's at the beach. And... could that be a confrontation between Minchi and Tohru I hear...?
