So some time ago, someone removed all of the actual advertising examples from this page due to reasoning along the lines of "We're a site about media, having most of the examples be from Real Life is ridiculous." I believe the so-called "Real Life" examples (or at least some of them) should be returned under a section marked "Advertising". The trope is under the Commercials Tropes index. It seems silly to me that examples from advertising shouldn't be allowed.

I guess the long and short of it is that advertising is also a medium (several media actually) and I don't see any reason we can't investigate it.

Yeah, advertising is a medium. Its a little scary, thinking that there may be people who need to be told there is a difference between real life and advertising.

I believe we've had a long standing policy of "ads are media that we document", it's just that they're rarely actually put up since there's not a whole lot of story to them.

Fight smart, not fair.
