No personal knowledge. it just seemed to me that the actor and Whedon sort of made it sound like Coulson was safe without actually promising he was. I admit it is possible that Coulson's death was faked and it is convincing because everyone would assume that Joss would kill off a character like Coluson
HodorWait!!!! It's not over yet.
Coulson will be in the SHIELD pilot.
But to what capacity or how he'll appear is not known.
I think the series will take place before the avengers.

He who fights bronies should see to itthat he himself does not become a brony. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, Pinkie Pie gazes AlsoOr even as simple as "Fury lies." We saw that Coulson was still alive when Fury got to him, medical teams were arriving, and then "Fury called it, he's dead." So the minimal explanation necessary is "Fury lied over the intercomm while the trauma team stabilized him and hauled him off for treatment secretly."
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comWonder if it is Joss who is lying and in a bit of trolling, we'll see Coulson's funeral in the pilot or something like that.
That does make sense and barring that, there is always Life Model Decoys (either the Coulson who died was one or perhaps the "real" Coulson died but has a Backup Clone- hmm, guess that's not a trope).

HodorI felt really let down that the end of the movie didn't reveal Coulson being wheeled out of the recovery ward and asking Fury what he missed. "Those cards weren't in his jacket" indeed.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI found what may be a picture of a model
of a design for the Vision.

Whedon's getting a lot better at having reasons to kill beloved characters. Compare the progression of Wash to Penny to Coulson. I was really wanting Coulson to limp out onto the bridge in the finale to make Fury an even more Machiavellian manipulator, but we all know Joss loves his body count.
It's not like his career was exactly short. There's a lot of room for his character development between the first Iron Man and Thor. Or even the second. He pretty much takes his level in badass on the plane to Arizona. What I'm saying is, there's gobs of time to fit a prequel series in.
