When I first launched that page, I had a picture of Oshizu from To Love Ru up there; and you could see that she didn't have any legs. Lemme see if I can dig up the old pic.
EDIT: That first one would be awesome, if it shrinks down enough.

Reaction Image RepositoryWillbyr, the first image is broken, the second one looks good.
One of those ghost tail thingies wouldn't be too bad.
Fight smart, not fair.
highlight the URL and hit enter. Let me see if I have any good pics of Sayo...
EDIT:
- Same pic Willbyr posted but with a white background
◊ (Will obviously need to be shrunk)
- Maximum cuteness
◊
- A little less stylized
◊.
Tried to pic out the ones where the ghost tail is plainly visible. Last two are fanart, but they still work.

The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.I think the Ghost Lights and ghost tail are more than enough; having her transparent as well would be overkill.
Reaction Image RepositoryAren't Ghost Lights a Japanese only trope? And how common are ghost tails in west? I wonder how someone non familiar with anime ghosts would look at Sayo. At last transparency is more universal.
I agree that that the signs are pretty Eastern. We have the same character in transparent mode
◊, however.
I like the first of the three the most. The transparent girl twirling the picture is also good.
Fight smart, not fair.Sure, but I've personally never seen a humanoid western ghost with a tail.
But, well, I don't want to object too much. I like Sayo and I like the image posted here, so whatever. Lets just wait a bit to see if some non-anime fan have any objection.

This one is not nearly as good as the others, though. But it is fine too. Any pic of Sayo is fine.
"Floaty tail replaces legs" is basically visual shorthand for " this character is a ghost", as far as I can tell. Looking at the image, I think that even people who are unfamiliar with anime will be able to tell that it's a ghost. But as has been said, we should wait for some non-anime fans to weigh in on it.

Reaction Image RepositoryEither way she looks sufficiently otherworldly.
Do we have any picture of her hanging around a cemetery or something, though?

The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.Tracing from the Image Links, I found this character
◊, which is I think more ghostly due to the transparency. I don't think she's that famous, however, images of her are scarce.
Do we have a consensus?

True, but I don't think we have to worry about anybody making that mistake; the Ghost Lights combined with the paleness should make the "ghost" aspect fairly clear.
And a cemetery isn't really necessary for the picture. All it needs is that the image is a cute girl who is obviously a ghost.
The character is a good example, but the image quality isn't that great.
I still like this one the best:

And the fact that we'll see the image in an article called "Cute Ghost Girl". Viewers will be more sensitive in detecting any ghostly sign. I think that one works.
On the girl I proposed, I would be happier to find a better image of her, but that seems hard.
