"I'm a janitor of a high-school." Steve flatly stated, before sighing softly. "Well, I guess someone has to do it..." He sighed as he pulled out of the Jet Alone.
-some time later-
He was entering the apartment, dropping the duffel bag onto the floor before he sat down and took a deep breath. He closed his eyes and relaxed, trying to line up the events as they happened within his mind. "So, I am a soldier who is also a janitor. The... kids I pilot with are going to be learning whatever inside their school, and I will be busy cleaning the toilets. America, the head cleaner. Ohh boy." He sighed as he pulled out the phone, and simply turned it off before plugging it in. "Sorry Ma, don't need you calling me for a bit. I need some time to get adjusted around here... I wonder just what the schedule is? Polish the toilets in the morning, get a feel for whatever U.N. weaponry is available in the afternoon, and use the evening to sit around and do nothing..."
Sighing contently, Steve lifts himself from the chair and stretches out, before heading into the kitchen-area of the apartment and starting to prepare some food.

Pokedy Poke-pokeJade put down some food, mostly noodles with a few vegetables on the side.
"Um... I don't really eat much on my own so this was the best I could do. I know it's not much... neither is the apartment but I'm really trying to make the best of it for you!"
She sighed. Sitting down on a flipped over recycling bin, leaving the remaining chairs to the children.
Nika chomped eagerly into her ham sandwich. He wondered sometimes why the Captain was so fond of them, but they certainly weren't bad, so he wasn't about to complain. There was a certain question she was dreading bringing up, but it needed to be said. "Kapitan?" he asked in Russian, swallowing, "Are you going to be staying here with me, or are you needed back in the Motherland?"

I wouldn't leave you to the wolves at the UN if they put a gun to my head. I've been your guardian for eight years, I'm not going to leave you in a foreign country on your own," Gangut replied in his native Russian tongue, "We are not in the UN building anymore, there is no need to go by titles. Now, we should get moving. We need to do a lot of unpacking if you are to be ready for your first assignment tomorrow. We have to show these UN types why Russia is still strong. Understood?"

"Okay, Ioseph!" The Russian pilot beamed, glad that her oldest friend wasn't going anywhere after all. The pair began to clean up and unpack their various belongings.

Kaori found she could move its arm slowly, but with some precision. She at least didn't hit anything during practice. She left UNAACO still feeling a little sick in the stomach. Her heart sank when it was announced she would be moving here to Tokyo-4, away from her sister.
When the group arrived at Major Afridi's apartment, Kaori left her travel case at the doorway and cautiously wandered around the dusty rooms. She turned to Afridi.
'Um... Major? Can I use your phone?' she asked.

Kaori bee-lined for the phone and dialed. The call picked up almost immediately, as though the person on the other end was right next to the phone waiting to be called.
'Hi... it's me, sis.'
There was some hysterical shouting on the other end of the line. Kaori pulled the phone away from her ear and winced.
'Yeah, I'm okay.' - pause - 'I was tested in an EVA. I might be a pilot.'
Kaori moved her ear away from the phone again. It was almost loud enough for others to hear. The next few minutes were presumably a rant and Haruka worrying over her little sister.
'I'm sorry. You know I don't want to pilot, sis.'
Haruka talked for a few minutes, then you could hear her irritably shouting 'What do you need me for?', directed to someone outside of the phone call.
'Oh, okay. Bye, then... I - I guess I'll call you tomorrow.'

Erin deposited her belongings in the bedroom, sighing quietly as she looked around. The place was a bit of a mess, for sure. What kind of hours does she work? Great... Putting her hands on her hips, she sighed again, before walking out into the kitchen and sitting down.
Seeing Jade's expression, Erin's own frown softened somewhat. She can't be happy with this either...
"Well, if there's going to be so many of us we'd better work out a roster or something." She said, her voice still somewhat stern, before taking a slurp of soup.
Steve had finished his turkey and peas, and was relaxing into a chair as he looked out the window. "It's certainly quiet around here..." He thought as he blinked lazily, rocking back and forth in the chair. "Reminds me of home before the fighting. Before all... this." He added to himself, eying the skyline through his half-shut eyes. It hazed over inside his vision, smudging the buildings as they protruded into the sky. "Yes, before all this. Might as well do my damnedest to keep it all together..." He smiled as he closed his eyes and drifted off, the chair creaking softly as he slowly stopped rocking.
To bring the peace of yesterday, to today...
Pokedy Poke-pokeThe night passed peacefully.
At six hundred hours the UN children were summoned to Nerv.
The Children were left in the waiting room, while Jade was called for conference. In the next room, whispers about Russia could be heard. Worries about the new pilot and the nation as a whole.
Their arrival was followed then by the American and Russian in short succession.
River emerged from the room with Jade and stood before the group.
"There is report of an embryo of an Angel. After the most recent impact, we lost all live samples of them. While we may have suspicions as to where they went," He glared at Gangut who smirked back, "we can do little to act upon them. Instead this may serve as an invaluable opportunity to gain lost ground and perhaps even make unprecedented progress in the field. As such we are sending you immediately. You may expect to arrive within six hours. The Evas will be operational for precisely 5 minutes after activation. The Jet will be active for longer however, this is more than a one person operation, as such you will be on a strict time limit. Further details will be evident upon arrival. Understood?".

"An angel... embryo?" Steve repeated, rather dumbfound by the idea of it. He always thought of them as towering, monstrous beings that threatened to destroy and consume cities for their own gain. But an embryo of one... He shook his head. Now wasn't the time for such thoughts. "So, we are basically on salvage duty?"
Pokedy Poke-pokeSteve looked amongst the children, his eyes jumping from one to another as he tapped his foot impatiently against the bottom of the APC. He was the oldest one here (not counting the UN staff) and he had a feeling that he needed to keep spirits high and tall. Yet, he was feeling empty, rather unable to come up with the perfect question to both make everyone here less nervous and to bolden their views on him. He sat there quietly, fidgeting awkwardly as he wished that his music player was finished charging. With nothing else to go on, he simply clasped the top of his legs and took a deep breath before he prepared himself.
"So... what brought you all here?"
Pokedy Poke-pokeNika, who had been unusually silent since arriving, glanced up, a smile tugging at his lips. "There are many, many ways I could be answering this question. What are you meaning, specifically?"

I meant why you arrived here specifically, y'know? Like whether you all got to volunteer, or if someone got to pick in your stay, or...?" Steve dropped off as he looked out the window and at the passing landscape. "Great, can't even strike up a conversation with a bunch of kids. What's next?"
Pokedy Poke-poke"Um, I was a candidate for childhood around the third impact. Since I was 10, I'm told. The UN has always taken care of me and the officers were always kind. I sort of felt obliged to pass on my good fortune and help the next generation... you know?" Jade spoke up, "I know I'm not really a pilot but... I thought maybe I could get the ball rolling?

Steve smiled as Jade took everything and began moving ahead with it, and decided to add onto it himself. "Well, I was drafted at 16, so I'm not as heavy under military protocol as you were. I got through boot camp, tried a JET simulation, and was practically forced over here. Not that I'm complaining!" He quickly added, looking over the children and Jade as he did so. "But... I just... y'know?" He added weakly, shrugging as he gave up on trying to explain himself.
Pokedy Poke-poke

After spending 10 minutes getting used to the rather jerky movements of her Eva, and the another 5 minutes coughing up orange blood-flavoured slime, Erin had been less than impressed with the new living arrangements.
Now she entered the appartment behind Josh, her backwack and suitcase in tow and her face set in its most unimpressed expression.
You have got to be kidding me...
