Noa tossed the egg-shaped soul gem back and forth from hand to hand, grinning like an idiot the entire time. She had no idea what she'd look like as a magical girl. Hopefully nothing too dorky. She had a feeling one couldn't really pick what their costume looked like. No one better laugh!

Turning to look at Rei's outstretched hand she took it without hesitation, giving a firm shake. "Yep! And thanks! So, do we have a super secret meeting place or something like that?" She looked around at everyone else with glee.

Oh Noa.

Sora weaved her way through the people walking down the sidewalks. Taking a breather, she looked back; it seems she finally escaped the eager track team recruiter. She let out of a sigh.

Party escaped successfully. Nora leveled up. +1 vitality. +1 evasion. +1 speed.

...okay, now what? Oh, right, food.

Flipping open her cellphone, Sora scrolled through her address list until she landed on the name of one of her friends.

"Yo~ It's Sora! Yup, I'm feeling better; I fought that cold like my dad fought the Russian bear! Except, you know, with less manliness and more medicinal syrup. Bleh. So, are you busy right now? We could grab something to eat - I'm tired of all the 'get well' food I had to scarf down while I was sick. I'm young and I'm healthy - let's go trash this body of mine!

"...no, not like that, you sick minded... I meant with, like, lots upon lots of eats. You know, American sized portions! Haha, yeah, I could actually go for something like that. Alright, that sounds good; I'm pretty close to that place, so we can go ahead and meet up there, alright?

"...copy your notes? Why would I want to do that? ...oh, right, catching up on studying. Please, don't remind me. I said stop! You're doing this on purpose just to tease me, aren't you?" Sora marked her very audible words with an equally audible sigh.

"Fine, fine, bring your notes; I have my backpack with me anyway. ...no, it wasn't because I thought school was still open. How dumb do you take me for? ...you weren't supposed to answer that! ...'So why did I ask it?' Because, you know! That... one thing. Rhetoric or something. Well, whatever. Just drag yourself over to the place, and we'll continue this talk over there, alright? Yeah, see you."

After disconnecting, Sora sighed. I get NO respect...

Rei let out a small chuckle at Noa's excitement. In retrospect, her advice was probably wasted on this girl; Noa probably wouldn't regret becoming a Magical Girl even if her wish was wasted on something like a huge cake instead, by the looks of it. Maybe.

Oh well.

"Unfortunately, we currently have no such location for our use," replied Rei, "although we were originally planning to go to the park near the grocery store to further discuss the implications of becoming a Magical Girl with Akane-san over there." Rei turned her head in Akane's direction to point the other girl out, before politely ending her handshake with Noa and walking in Akane's direction to retrieve her schoolbag.

"... ah right." She had forgotten something; Rei turned to face Noa (and Kiku and Minori) again, now with her bag slung over her shoulder. "I seem to have forgotten to introduce myself. I am Hateshinai Rei; nice to meet the three of you." The blue-eyed girl bowed gracefully.

That is all she needed. That is all... Her dreams of seeing the world have become her strength, and lifts her wings.

"Right... Lets see... is there anything else we might need to discuss in the park?" Akane asked after stepping away from her sister "I mean, that Witch popped out just in time for me to see what being a Magical Girl is all about..."

And after seeing that... yeah, it was quite exciting. A bizarre world unlike anything she had ever seen with an imposing and strange opponent that could only be beaten by the magical light of the warriors of justice...

She wanted to join their ranks very badly. It was an opportunity Akane thought she would only get in her dreams... But seeing her sister involved in such a fight had shaken her quite a bit.

Kiku did well and ultimately her efforts combined with those of the senior Magical Girls had saved the day... But it still, it was her little sister putting herself in harms way.

Akane would need to have a good talk with Kiku about this... for the crying out loud, she was supposed to be the rational one! How could she just accept the contract even faster than herself!?

"Are you insane? You don't just go running through people like that!" The girl was about her age, dressed in the garb of one of the numerous local high schools that Nana didn't care an iota for. Nana wasn't paying much attention, already looking about for somewhere to place her fliers. "Hello? Are you listening?"

"Not particularly, no."

"So rude!" The girl was positively foaming at the mouth at this point. Her equally offended friends uttered affirmations, nursing the wounds they had received when Nana had sent them virtually toppling to the ground in her bull rush. "I can get you arrested for this, you know!" Nana yawned, by pure coincidence, but it cemented her stance in the eyes of her victim. " What makes you think you have the right to treat people like this?"

"The right... to treat people... like so?" Nana quietly asked, as if she didn't understand. Her counterpart growled back:

"Yeah. I'd really like to know what self-absorbed idiot would-"

"I. I am born with that right." Nana's voice suddenly flared- with her focus sharp and all guns blazing she began to viciously counterattack. "The faithless do not know the power of dedication- devotion! In this modern world we have lost such necessary ideals- and that is why I have the right to lord over you- because you are merely one of the millions who have lost touch in what makes a human whole." Nana took a step forward- powerfully, menacingly, so much so that despite the fact that the girl was taller than her by a head, she and her posse took a step back; timidly maintaining their distance from the tiger they had suddenly awakened. "My right is my conviction, my dedication, my truth! None of you, who have lost sight of what is really important in this world, can dare question me! Those who I know, who believe, will ensure that the word of my gospel is not snuffed by such pathetic opposition as yours!" She turned heel and left.

They had been quivering- she was sure that they would not dare call the authorities now. And so what if they did? Her conviction would not be smothered by anything- not even the law. Nana was afraid for the possible confrontation- afraid for her opposition, in any case. They would not stop her.

Standing outside the glass doors of a diner-themed restaurant and peering into the windows, Sora watched intently as the waiters and waitresses carried massive trays of food to the various tables within. The massive, showy sign above the entrance way boldly and proudly proclaimed the name of the establishment in bright red English: United Plates of Ameriburger!!! The meals inside were just as showy, each serving so massive you could easily imagine it feeding 3 people comfortably instead of just the intended 1.

The voracious schoolgirl was just moment's away from leaving a watery trail on the window when suddenly she was pulled away. "You shouldn't drool on the glass; I don't think the workers here would appreciate that."

Hearing the characteristic sigh of his, Sora turned to face her friend. "Ah, Ito-kun! I was waiting for you!"

Ito gave Sora a look. "We've been friends for a few years already; can't you call me by my first name?"

"Ehhhhhhh?! B-but... Takahiro-kun is so much longer! Ito-kun is short and cute and totally fits you!"

Ito looked away; his exasperated expression reflected his current thoughts on the subject: "Cute?" Really? I don't think so. Pushing up his glasses and turning back to look at his eager friend, he changed the subject. "I really shouldn't have suggested here. Even if it was a joke, I shouldn't encourage you..."

"NONSENSE! I can eat small meals when I'm sickly and weak! Right now, I'm pumped and strong! And that means lots upon lots of food to keep myself going!"

Ito sighed again. "Yeah, you told me on the phone. Hard to believe you were sick for a week. Let's just head inside; try not to embarrass the both of us, okay?"

"Can do! By the way, you're paying for the meal; I kind of left my cash at home."

"..." Ito looked at Sora's grinning face with disbelief. "...you didn't."

"...nope! I was just joking!" Sora fished out a wallet from her backpack. "C'mon, I'd never leave you hanging like that~"

Turning away from his friend, Ito opened up the door, thinking to himself, No, I can see you doing that way too easily...

Rei was so polite! Noa really couldn't say she met many her age that had such graceful manners. Feeling as if she were being rude herself she bowed back with a smile. Wow. She really couldn't remember the last time she did that. Yet another thing her parents regularly harassed her about. It wasn't that she didn't have any manners. Noa just... didn't feel the need to show them very much.

Yep. That was it.

"The park sounds good." She said, stretching her arms into the sky with a yawn. "Maybe we could pop into the grocery store and buy some treats. Becoming a magical girl has made me a bit hungry I think. Is that normal?"

Still clutching her soul gem, she frowned a bit at how bulky it was. How could she just carry something around like this? Didn't it shrink? Well, as if understanding her, the gem flashed, blinding her for a split second. Once the light faded it had somehow turned into a fashionable, snug-fitting ring with an olive-colored gem.

"Wow. Handy."

While everyone was talking amongst themselves, Kiku had become distracted by a blade of grass. The knowledge poured through her and she sunk her roots into the ground, chemistry bubbling in her cells as she drank of the sunlight...

"Ouch..."

Akane simply nodded her head at Kiku, not wasting a single word now that her little sister had stated her desire to have this discussion at home. Attention: By purchasing a meal at our establishment, you acknowledge that Ameriburger takes no responsibility for any health complications that may occur after consuming our food, up to and including immediate death.

Ito felt some unease creep into his body as he looked at the warning posted on the far side of the table. "Sora-san, I'm almost not sure whether or not I should believe this..."

Sora's response was an absentminded "Mmm."

"..." The bespectacled teen turned to see his friend not paying attention to him, her eyes wandering all over the restaurant and staring at what other people ordered - thick pizza slices that could be lasagna if it had pasta instead of dough; massive slabs of steak comparable in size to a small child; plates of fried chicken with enough meat to fill a henhouse. Even the desserts were massive, towering pillars of ice cream covered in more condiments than one would've guessed existed.

Ito quickly shook his friend out of her food-frenzied daze. "Sora-san."

"Huh?" Sora blinked and looked over to Ito. "Oh, right. Sorry. What were you saying?"

Ito pointed to the health hazard warning sign. "They put this up as a joke, right?"

Sora quickly looked over the sign. "...

"Donmai, donmai! You'll get gray hairs worrying over minor stuff like that..."

"...'Immediate death' doesn't set off red flags for you?"

Sora pounded her fist into her chest in a most macho of ways before giving a strong, hearty laugh. "I'm young! Nothing can kill me at my age!"

"...stop taking cues from your father..."

"Eheh..." Sora turned her head over to the kitchen. "I wonder if I should order dessert..."

"No, no you really shouldn't."

Sora looked back and Ito and gave him a disappointed look. Ito turned away.

"I-I'm not falling for the 'sad puppy' routine. Knowing this place, what you ordered already would be enough to live off of for a week!"

"But we could shaaaaaaaare~"

"Let's eat what we already got, then we'll see where things are at."

Sora fell into her cushioned booth seat and pouted. "Oh, fine..."

"And here's your order~!" A waitress set down her tray on the table next to the two of them and with surprising strength for her frame, she lifted a plate and a wide bowl from it, setting them down in front of Sora.

On the plate stood a tower of multiple beef patties, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, pickles, and onions, standing as tall as the average human head and all encompassed by two buns the size of frisbees. In the bowl (large enough for a grown cat to sleep comfortably in), an uncountable array of fries coated with chili, ground beef, bits of bacon, and nacho cheese beckoned Sora to savor every last bite.

The smell and sight of the food was so overwhelming to Sora, the hunger-hypnotized teen hardly noticed her humongous cup of soda, the plastic cone (which could double as a hat, easily) that held no less than two liters of carbonated goodness being a mere afterthought to her.

"For the lady, one Skyscraper Ameriburger, the Super Deluxe Independence Celebration Freedom Fries, and a large soda. And for the gentleman..."

The waitress set out in front of Ito a hot dog that reached one and half feet in length, easily. Decorating the length from inside the bun was a blend of ketchup, mustard, relish, and onions. Next to it, an extraordinarily ordinary-sized plastic cup.

"One All-American Coast-To-Coast Hot Link and a cup of water!"

"Whoo!" was all Sora had to say about her meal. Well, that, and "Thank you for the food!"

Ito groaned. "I feel full just looking at everything..."

Rei mentally repeated the names of the three girls as Minori (and Kiku, indirectly, via Akane's calling out to her) introduced herself, committing them to memory as she did so. Fujimiya Noa, Hanami... Kiku, and... Minori? That's her given name, I guess...? Hmm. Introductions usually involved full names. Not that it mattered in this particular case; Kyubey, as the sole contractor of Magical Girls (as far as Rei knew, anyways), would most likely know Minori's full name, so should the need ever arise it would be fairly simple to just ask the cat-rabbit thing. More importantly, however...

"I would certainly appreciate it if you made purchases at that grocery store, but right now it would probably be better to have an actual dinner instead. The sun is setting," Rei said in response to Noa, as she rose from her bow. "There are a variety of restaurants and cafes in that area as well, so we won't have to change course-"

And at that moment, the blue-eyed girl's stomach made a soft-yet-still-audible growl, not-so-gently reminding its owner that fried rice and coffee for lunch was not nearly enough to satisfy the gluttonous organ all the way to dinnertime.

In Rei's mind, any polite-and-graceful image she might have projected to the others had just collapsed. Sort of like the walls of Jericho.

"... In particular, there is a Western restaurant that I hear serves fairly decent portions," Rei continued, a light blush creeping onto her face as she spoke. "I'm fairly certain everyone is hungry by now, so..."

That is all she needed. That is all... Her dreams of seeing the world have become her strength, and lifts her wings.

Machi Nazuna alone sat at a table for two, snug between two groups of foreign men. The table to her left played host to a slightly overweight bunch. They were wearing blue and white Maple Leaf hats on their heads, with one donning a food-stained blue and white jersey. On her right were a group of equally tubby hockey lunatics who had pictures of a roman gladiator plastered onto their clothes. Both groups were shouting expletives at each other while observing the mini-TV attached to the ceiling to Nazuna's 12 O clock.

The quality of the broadcast was horrible and the commentary was French, but nevertheless, the two groups found more than enough reason to shout in joy when their team scored a goal, or to groan in agony when their team gave up one.

Just another evening in Canadiaburger. A small cozy restaurant in the corner of the street that turned into a not so cozy restaurant when it decided to play reruns of old NHL matches.

This particular match had happened the previous night and the fans from across the world had gathered to watch at a sane time of day. Oblivious to all of this, Nazuna munched on her burger and sipped on her pepsi while the two opposing factions engaged in a shouting match around her. Maybe I should've chosen a different restaurant.

"Ugh. I think... I'm done..."

As Ito slid his plate away from himself and, subsequently, closer to his friend, Sora put aside her fork and knife and peeked out from behind her burger.

"What?! You haven't even finished half of it!"

"Half of it is enough."

Sora made a face. "Seems like a waste though... oh, I know! If you're not going to finish it, I'll eat it for you!"

With a sigh, Ito's head slumped down towards the floor. "So much food, and you don't gain a pound... where does it all go? How are you able to eat so much?! Are you 90% stomach or something? Is this where you get all your energy? No, even with this much food, your energy output is even more than what you take in. I think your body defies both biology and physics. I'm sure if some mad person discovered the secret to how much energy you produced, the world would be doomed. No, the entire universe."

A loud munching sound could be heard on the other side of the booth. "Mmm... did you say something?"

"No, not a thing." Ito lifted his head and saw half of Sora's meal had already vanished into the void beyond the schoolgirl's lips. "Are... are you sure you'll be able to eat everything?"

Sora nodded vigorously as more and more food disappeared into her mouth, never to be seen again. Watching her devour so much food at a time gave Ito a bit of nausea.

"I'm gonna use the restroom; be right back." Ito adjusted his glasses a bit before getting up. Sora took a moment to stop shoveling cheeseburger into her mouth and respond.

"Alright! Just watch; I'll have all of this done by the time you get back!"

I don't think that's humanly possible...

Ito gave Sora a brief wave before walking away from their little table, past the cash register and stopping for a moment when he came across a series of pictures.

The Big-As-Texas Sized Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza Challenge!! Finish off this monster with you and two of your friends and not only is your meal on us, but your face and theirs shall join the legendary ranks of our Hall of Fame!

Ito sighed. Crazy people. It sounds like something Sora would try to drag some poor people into...

Ito's eyes glanced across the photos absentmindedly, not intending to stay there too long. Then a certain picture caught his eye: a pair of two men, fairly similar in appearance, standing triumphantly with an empty pizza dish behind them. Ito couldn't quite place where he recognized one of the men, until he saw the caption.

Yuudai and Katsuo, the Legendary Yamamoto Brothers
The first challengers to defeat our pizza with only two people

Ito's face paled and he quickly rushed to the bathroom, a sudden wave of illness coming over him.

I can't let Sora see that picture. I must do everything I can to stop Sora from seeing that picture...!

"Well then, shall we go?" said Rei. No one seemed to have noticed the growl from her stomach, apparently (hopefully); the light red tint that was on her face a moment ago vanished without a trace. Her mood seemed to have improved somewhat, as well; perhaps it was because she was looking forward to dinner, but Rei's eyes were now fully open, giving her a somewhat more cheerful look. Turning towards the road, the blue-eyed girl began walking in the general direction of Ameriburger.

Kiku continued to chatter away, oblivious to the fact that no one was listening to her.
