System is still letting people create ptitles

Most recent example: De.ptitle.

[edit: It's been cut now, but the bug that created it still exists, even though it ought in principle to be a simple fix.]

Considering that it's been claimed from the outset that "No new ptitles will be created", I'm surprised this still hasn't been fixed.

Huh? That's not a ptitle. A ptitle being created would be me typing [=~New!Ptitle~=]] and getting a link that points to something like ptitlejxp0q18q.

That's not a ptitle. That's a dutch version of the P Title page.

Ptitles are really just specially formatted Wiki Words. It is still possible to deliberately create an article under a name that resembles a ptitle, in the same manner as any other Wiki Word: Just visit the page for ptitle123456768 or whatever, click "edit"....

Big T: Have you tried doing that recently? What actually happens if you do that now is that you get a link to a page called "ptitle", with no jxp0q18q after it. As has happened here. As has happened at least half a dozen times since the new ptitle system was rolled out.

Stratadrake: It's possible to deliberately create a page that's actually called "ptitle", but there is no reason for this particular page to be titled like that. It's far more likely that the page was created by somebody trying to create a new ptitle, and not noticing that what they'd actually created was a page just called "ptitle". I repeat, this is what the ptitle system does now.

Deboss: I know it's a translation, but that's not the point. (It's actually German, not Dutch, but that's not the point either.) It's not a translation of an English page called "ptitle" — because, for one thing, there isn't one; and for another, it's actually talking about Even Evil Has Standards.

[up] No, I haven't. My confusion was more that you didn't actually demonstrate the problem, nor explain it. Now that you have, I think I get it.

In my opinion, this should probably be handled by a warning when you try to save a page with the [=~New!Ptitle~=] markup, since that markup should have been removed. I'd handle the other part by locking the ptitle pages and/or having them redirect to The Ptitle Replacement System.

The ptitle page itself is on the Permanent Redlink Club so people can't accidentally create it. Anything else is a tech fix that our dear Eddie will have to get to in his good time.

Ptitled pages are still being made, though. I'm not certain how, but it is happening

De.ptitlek7g47csi — I think. I know there was one in the De namespace recently, anyway

Not sure. It would be possible to create a new ptitled page from an existing stale link that possibly hadn't been corrected by editing the page. You can also do it by editing the URL from an existing page, as you would to create a subpage like YMMV. On the specific case, I can't tell.

There is no mechanism in place to add new ptitles. You can make a new red link using the old markup, but you can't make a blue link.
