[up][up]I love the scale model bridge competitions some school districts hold. It's an excellent way of teaching some basic fundamentals of physics, namely force vectors. Another fun exercise is the egg drop competition.

[up]Rope Bridges are useful critters, aren't they.

Pfft.

Projectile motion is the easiest thing I've calculated.

Okay, granted, I do Physics at school. tongue Alongside Biology, Gov't & Politics, and Psychology. My four chosen subjects at school! I'm more well-rounded than all of you; I have a dabble in ALL TEH FIELDS

8 'O' Grades; 3 Higher Grades; level 2 qualifications in City and Guilds and RSA for IT and Business Administration; trade qualifications in Telecommunications from the Territorial Army and the ECDL. Pretty crap really. I read a lot. I prefer history to current affairs, as most commentators of those a lot of the time have no clue of what they are talking about. Yet seem to get paid huge amounts of money for their views if they are called Glenn Beck, Rupert Murdoch and Yasmin Alibhai Brown. I had to learn about weapons and stuff as well in the T.A. and Regular Army so new advances in that field are really of interest to me.

I must admit a lot of the stuff on this forum doesn't just go over my head, it achieves stable orbit, but I am trying to learn.

Edit,

you may need logicians but you will be able to do the square root of sod all without logisticians (if that isn't a word it damned well should be) to provide the kit and tools you need to do stuff. Amateurs talk about strategy and tactics. Professionals talk about logistics.

I like engineers

Every morning on the way to class I cross the Harbour by going across world's widest long-span bridge[1] and I can't help be impressed at it.

You really have to admire the achievements and ambition of engineers at being able to build something big enough to allow their own heads to pass throughtongue

But!

Social scientists come up with the ways that you get educated in class!

(Yes, I am just making semi-jokey arguments here).

Oscar, we'll set us up a nice business. I'll keep building weapons and you keep building targets, sound good?

Probably too late for me to take up logistics. And I don't mean driving a truck or stacking shelves in Tesco. I saw a Tesco the other day. Horrible creatures.

No, I'm not working in that sonovabitch.

I have a lot of respect for social scientists. It's a hellishly difficult field — far more so than "hard" sciences, in my opinion — and one which has a lot of far-reaching practical consequences...

One of my life ambitions is to go and teach non-standard logics in some hippie-ish college such as the Evergreen State College or similar.

I'd get hippies stoned on abstract mathematics. Who needs LSD when you have multivalued logic? tongue

[up]Oh yes.

I enjoyed reading through this.

Doing a computer science and linguistics double major, with Arabic. I'm also doing a math minor and taking some random history courses (like the Egyptian Art & Archeology class I have this semester tongue). I guess this puts me on both sides of the hard v. soft science debate? cool

I also have a lot of knowledge of theological topics in general relating to the major religions of the world though nothing learned from an educational institution.
