This is the point where you start brainstorming and asking yourself questions about your plot, your world, your characters.
- What can magic do that technology can't, and vice versa?
- How advanced are they?
- What role do they play in society?
- Who or what do people associate the two with?
- How do the magic cubes work?
- Does Ada have to do anything with the cube?
- How would an ice phoenix attach itself to someone's soul?
- What are the ice phoenixes, anyways?
- Where do they come from?
- Are they sentient?
- If so, why would they want to attach themselves to a human soul?
Boy, I could go on all day with this. You have to do the thinking yourself, though.
"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."

(First, if this gets a bit rambly I apologize but I'm also figuring out some of the details as I type)

My story is set in a magical school/boarding house/not sure what to call it, it follows "Ada" (Name subject to change).
Her backstory is a bit complex, she just one day appeared on the doorstep of the school in the middle of a snowstorm when she was five with no memories of her past, how she got there, or even her name. She was taken in by the headmistress of the school and has always just faded into the background ever since. But she knows the school better than pretty much anyone else and can move through it with ease (Her favorite method is through the ventilation system)
Over the years she comes to think of the headmistress as her mother, but never calls her that out of worry for how she'd react.
The story starts a bit before her sixteenth birthday (marked by the anniversary of the day she was found) and she's crawling through the vents to amuse herself by watching different parts of the day (Probably gonna change that). She comes to one room where the headmistress and another person are discussing an upcoming 'bonding' ceremony and looking over the 'cubes' (Cubes are the 'magic channelers' of this world, they're basically small squares that are slightly bigger than a sugar cube and attune themselves to whatever magic user is bonded to them)
Ada notices that a cube wavers from where it's hovering whenever she twitches her fingers, but before she can contemplate it there's a ruckus in the hall and the head mistress and the man run to investigate it, Ada panics and leaves through the vents while they're gone. She doesn't realize until she stops that one of the cubes is in her hand.
That's the farthest I've gotten with the plot.

This story is mostly based off a dream I had, I have some ideas for the future (The one in the dream is that Ada has an Ice Phoenix attached to her soul but I'm not sure how to make that work) but nothing set.
The world they live in is still being developed in my mind, they're slightly more advanced than us when it comes to technology and magic is a well-known part of society but I can't figure out anything beyond that.
