... what's that a reference for?
Also happy for Venezuela for winning. They have a tough path ahead against Uruguay, Argentina, and Colombia, but hopefully they will secure the play-off ticket.
What we had on the week-end (apart of the Nations League final four)?
EURO QUALIFIERS TO WORLD CUP
- Croatia demolished Gibraltar 7-0
- Italy started with the left foot against Norway 3-0.
- Israel drank the Espresso Machiatto and defeated Estonia 3-1 (mi amore.. mi amore..)
- England gave deception in Barcelona and just scored one goal against Andorra.
- Austria defeated Rumania 2-1
- Netherlands started with a victory 2-0 over Finland
CONCACAF QUALIFIERS TO WORLD CUP
- While Mexico and USA gave deceptions losing against Switzerland and Turkey, Canada won its friendly against Ukraine 3-0.
- Meanwhile the medium countries in the Confederation made impressive games, specially Costa Rica that demolished Bahamas 8-0, while Panama had a confortable win in Belize 2-0 and Honduras suffered to defeat Cayman Islands 1-0.
Meanwhile Barcelona won the Copa de la Reina by defeating Atletico Madrid 2-0 and, at least had a local treble (Liga, Super Copa and Copa de la Reina) this year.
This week-end starts the FIFA Club World Cup over its new format of 32 teams that will take place in the United States, where, FIFA and CONMEBOL tries to play around with two different tournaments played in the same country.
For that reason, and given the time tables, the games for the Club World Cup are taking center state in the East Coast so the most of the games can be visible in the European nights, while the Gold Cup will take place mostly in the West Coast.
A good way to test if USA is ready to hold a 48 teams World Cup next year (the answer is: partially no, as long as Mexico and Canada will co-host this World Cup).
Let's take a look on the first two groups of the tournament:
Group A: A "weak" group for Messi
- It looks like teams in Group A would look weak, as long as it is formed by Palmeiras (Brazil), Porto (Portugal), Al Ahly (Egypt) and Inter Miami (USA)
- Palmeiras sounds like the strongest team in the group, winners in the Copa Libertadores in 2020 and 2021 (the last one allowing to clinch a ticket to the World Cup), while these last years they had suffered to reach the top again in both Copa Libertadores and the Brasileirao. They went two times to the CWC in the former format and reached the final game once.
- Porto, who qualified as the fifth-bet eligible team in the UEFA four year ranking, had seen better days, but is still one of the best teams in Portugal. For Porto this is its debut in the CWC.
- Al Ahly: Recurrent winners of the CAF Champions League (winning three in the last four years) and current champions of the Egyptian Premier League, would these credentials allow the Egyptians to have a better role in the CWC? From the African teams is the most experienced team in the CWC in the older format as long as they went 10 times to the tournament.
- Inter Miami: The youngest team in the tournament, that was pulled as the host team (despite being better teams in the MLS than the Pink Flamingos) by winning the 2024 MLS Supporters Shield (the USA Cup) and having one of the biggest names in football, Lionel Messi. Not much to say on the team that recently was defeated by Vancouver Whitecaps in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
- Predictions: It looks like an easy group for Palmeiras, while the second ticket sounds also in Portuguese for Porto, but we should put attention on see if Inter Miami is able to overcome the bad predictions.
Group B: The Death Group of Debutants
- This is going to be the toughest group of the tournament, we have a Champions League winner, Paris Saint-Germain, the most recent winners of Copa Libertadores, Botafogo, Atletico de Madrid and the Seattle Sounders.
- What we can say about PSG, the winner of the most recent European Treble? Marked as the second-best ranked eligible team from UEFA, the team has a wonderful year dominating European football by winning the most recent Champions League, so, for PSG the cream of the top will be winning this tournament and showing that, despite the departures of figures like Messi and Mbappe, the team of Dembele is one of the biggest favorites in the tournament.
- Botafogo is not an easy team. Is the most recent winner of the Copa Libertadores and the most recent winners of the Brasileirao, we can say that this group having the potential finalist of the former Intercontinental Cup will leave the other teams like, why we went here?
- But Atletico de Madrid can have a strong voice trying to reach the next round, the third most powerful team in Spain managed to qualify as the Sixth-best ranked eligible team in the UEFA and, while it gave some deceptions like an early departure of the Champions League and a third place in La Liga, it has arguments to try to overcome the challenges that mean Botafogo and PSG.
- The weakest team, but, curiously the most experienced in CWC is the Seattle Sounders (I miss that X-Box jersey!). Winning the 2022 Concacaf Champions League pulled them to the CWC for the second time. Probably its most powerful weapon will be to be the host team in some of the games.
- Predictions: While this points to PSG and Botafogo, we can have some noise from Atletico Madrid.

World Cup qualifiers in Europe continues:
- Italy defeats Moldavia 2-0 but says goodbye to its current trainer after the disastrous game in Norway that is first place on Group I (12 pts) after defeating Estonia 1-0, Israel has the second place with 6 points and Italy needs to put more pressure (while still the team only has two games played).
- Croatia is undefeatable in its group and demolished Czech Republic 5-1, despite that, the Czechs mantains first position after winning its first three games, Montenegro tries to keep up in the third place with the same points as Croatia (6)
- Belgium defeated Wales 4-3 and holds in third place where North Macedonia is leading undefeated after defeating Kazakhstan.
Let's get back with the analysis of the FIFA World Cup groups.
Group C: Bayern and Kane to dominate the Group C
- The Group C is composed by Bayern Munich (Germany), Auckland City (New Zealand), Boca Juniors (Argentina) and Benfica (Portugal).
- The current Bundesliga champions was the best ranked eligible team in the UEFA ranking and its the third time the team participates in the Club World Cup. The year was not as good as expected for the German team, that managed to win again the Bundesliga after the wonderful year that had Bayer Leverkusen, but still, was unable to reach a high level to contend for the Champions League, despite that, it has a powerful offensive that allowed them to have one of their best regular campaigns in Germany.
- Auckland City, the only team from the OFC, is the best OFC Champions League winner in four years and is also the most experienced team in the Club World Cup, being this the 12th time they come to the tournament. Despite that, experience is not meaning capability to play against greater teams as long as they only had won three games in these tournaments.
- If someone expect that Boca Juniors will be the biggest rival of Bayern in the group, the Argentinian team is not passing through good times, marked as the second best eligible team in the CONMEBOL team ranking, the team has suffered to reach at least Copa Libertadores in the latest years. Is the second time for Boca to reach the CWC, but, despite his big honours in the Argentinian League, its international experience is very poor.
- Benfica, by the other side, carrying the spell of not winning international tournaments since Eusebio, arrives to the tournament as the seventh-best ranked eligible team in the UEFA rankings. Debuting in this tournament, the Eagles ended in second place in the Primeira Liga and has the chance to write some history.
- Predictions: Bayern Munich looks to have an easy group, and probably Benfica will be joining them in the knock-out phase.
Group D: Chelsea and Flamengo heading the lead!
- The Group D is composed by Flamengo (Brazil), Esperance de Tunis (Tunisia), Chelsea (England) and Leon...err... Ameri... err.. Los Angeles FC (USA) (yet FIFA wanted to sell a Chelsea vs America game... don't look at me!)
- Flamengo, one of the most prized teams in Brazil won the 2022 Copa Libertadores to reach the tournament for the third time, we can say that has high possibilities to reach the knockout phase, being the third most powerful team in the latest Brasileirao and currently dominating the Carioca League this year. Winner of the 3 Copa Libertadores, it has good possibilities to reach the play-offs.
- Esperance de Tunis, the best ranked eligible team in the CAF rankings, goes to its fourth participation in the CWC. The team had won 4 CAF Champions League and dominates the league of its country. While, we can say that would be surprising to see them moving to the next phase.
- Chelsea, the current UEFA Conference League winners, wants to add a new trophy to its collection, that has all flavors of UEFA trophies (including the extinct Cup Champions Cup), one of these, the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League allowed the Blues to clinch a ticket to the CWC. The team is reaching its third time to the tournament, being the 2021 edition winners.
- After a polemic turn of events, where Club Leon was removed from the tournament due to the ownership of Grupo Pachuca, Los Angeles FC had a last chance to clinch a ticket by playing against Club America and defeated the Aguilas to reach the last place in the CWC, the team, debuting in this tournament, had very few experience in international tournaments and never won the Concacaf Champions Cup. This is a good chance for the least known team in Los Angeles to try to make some noise as currently the activists do in their city (just imagine, this is the third MLS team, after Galaxy and Chivas USA, that exists).
- Predictions: Chelsea and Flamengo, I am not even having any Esperance (Hope) to see the Tunisian team or LAFC in the pic.

Welp, Bolivia defeated Chile 2-0 and made the latter's elimination from the next World Cup definitive. It'll be the third WC in a row missed out by the South American Roja (European one is Spain).
Uruguay and Venezuela are playing right now. I won't cry if Venezuela loses, because they had better chances to win points from weaker teams than Uruguay.
Lastly, on the subject of clubs, Liverpool's signing for Wirtz is estimated to be 150 M€.
135 -> 180 -> 273 -> 191 -> 188 -> 230 -> 300 -> 311The FIFA date ends...
UEFA Qualifiers
- Finland defeated Poland 2-1, Romania defeated Cyprus 2-0 and Latvia tied with Albania.
- San Marino was demolished by Austria 0-4, while Netherland destroyed Malta 8-0 and Serbia did the same with Andorra 3-0.
- Finland leads Group G with 7 points, while Netherlands just passed Poland with one less game to play, both with 6 points.
- Bosnia and Herzegovina leads group H with 9 points, followed by Austria and Romania with 6 points.
- England leads Group K with 9 points (while embarrasing after a lose 1-3 in a friendly with Senegal), Albania stays in second place with 5 points followed by Serbia and Latvia with 4 points.
AFC Qualifiers: Third round is over
- Group A finishes with victories of qualified teams, Uzbekiztan and Iran, 3-0 over Qatar and North Korea respectively, while Kyrguistan tied 1-1 with the United Arab Emirates. This team and Qatar will play round four.
- Group B had qualified South Korea winning 4-0 over Kuwait, Iraq defeating Jordan 1-0 and Palestina tying 1-1 with Oman that pushes Palestina out of the fourth round and joining Iraq.
- Group C had Australia clinching the last ticket available to the World Cup at this point by defeating Saudi Arabia 2-1. Japan closed with a landslide over Indonesia 6-0 and China closed with a victory over Bahrein 1-0. Saudi Arabia and Indonesia moves to the fourth round.
CONMEBOL Qualifiers:
- Bolivia defeated Chile 2-0 and La Roja is eliminated from the World Cup qualifiers.
- Brazil defeated Paraguay 1-0 and clinches a ticket for the World Cup remaining as the only national squad that attended every single event.
- Ecuador tied with Peru 0-0 and clinches its ticket to the World Cup.
- Colombia was closer to defeat 10-man Argentina 1-1 and remains in the fight for the direct ticket.
- Uruguay defeated Venezuela 2-0 and pushes Venezuela to fight its play-off ticket with Bolivia for the last two games.
- With two games left the magic number to go to the World Cup is 25, the maximum number of points Venezuela can get plus one, Uruguay and Paraguay can clinch the ticket by just tying one of the games they have in September, Colombia by winning one game.
- To defend its play-off ticket Venezuela still has to play against Argentina and Colombia, while Bolivia play key games against Colombia and Brazil, the last one in its country that is a hard place to play.
CONCACAF Qualifiers:
- While Mexico defeated Turkey, USA lost against Switzerland and Canada lost in P Ks with Cote D'Ivoire...
- With four games left, Honduras lead Group A undefeated with 12 points, followed by Bermuda that defeated Cuba and has 7 points against 6 from the third place.
- Costa Rica leads Group B undefeated with 12 points, followed by Trinidad and Tobago and Granada with 7 points each.
- Curazao leads Group C with 12 points, also undefeated followed by Haiti with 9 points.
- Panama dominates Group D also with 12 points, while Nicaragua is second place with 9 points and Guyana third with 6.
- Jamaica leads Group E with 12 points, followed by Guatemala with 9 points and Dominican Republic with 6 points.
- Surinam leads with 10 points the Group F, followed by El Salvador with 8 points and Puerto Rico with 7.
The new teams added to the World Cup are:
- Australia
- Brazil
- Ecuador
Continuing with the analysis and predictions of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup
Group E: Inter Milan looking for redemption in USA, River and Monterrey looking to shine
- Group E is composed by River Plate (Argentina), Urawa Red Diamons (Japan), Monterrey (Mexico) and Inter Milan (Italy)
- River Plate is the best ranked eligible team in the CONMEBOL ranking but we should take in account that the team has not won the Copa Libertadores since 2018 (that time that they defeated Boca Juniors in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid), since then the team has seen, along with Boca how other teams had managed to reach the championships and the Copa Libertadores. This is the third time for the Millonarios to be in the CWC.
- For the Urawa Red Diamonds, winners of the 2022 AFC Champions League, this is the fourth time the Japanese team joins the CWC, curiously, they are having a rollercoaster: from a very bad 2024 season where they ended closer to relegation (13th of 20 teams) to reach currently the third place in the current season. Marking it as the "weak" team would not be a correct way to describe them.
- Monterrey is the most experienced CONCACAF team in CWC for this tournament, participating in six editions of the former version of the tournament being the last one in 2021, same year that they won the 2021 Concacaf Champions League that clinched its ticket to the tournament. They went as far to hire former Real Madrid player, Sergio Ramos, to put a team that would compete in this group.
- Inter Milan, the Italian team that had two chances to win the Champions League in the last three years and had been defeated twice. Despite that is a powerhouse from Italian football that pulled the fourth best ranked eligible team. This year finished second in Serie A and in the UEFA Champions League after being destroyed by PSG. With new trainer and some motivation, the champions of the 2010 Club World Cup is the favorite to win this group.
- Predictions: Inter Milan qualifies, the second ticket sounds for Monterrey.
Group F: Borussia and Fluminense looking for glory.
- Group F is composed by Fluminense (Brazil), Borussia Dortmund (Germany), Ulsan HD (South Korea) and Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa)
- Do you expect a tournament with Flamengo without Fluminense? The big rival of Flamengo won its first Copa Libertadores in 2023 and clinched its ticket for the CWC being its first participation in the tournament. The Flu, always a big contender in the Carioca tournament, has not a big name in the Brasileirao, but, still, has a motivation to show that the Flu can be a powerhouse in this group.
- Borussia Dortmund is not only the archrival of Bayern Munich, but such a great contender in the UEFA Champions League, indeed, this last years they reached the finals in 2024 losing to Real Madrid and this allows them to be ranked third-best team in the UEFA ranking and qualify to the CWC, having its debut in this tournament. This year, Borussia had not so good numbers in the Bundesliga, but reached the Quarterfinals where they fell with Barcelona.
- Ulsan HD qualified as the best ranked eligible team in the AFC ranking and this is its third time in the CWC. Is the powerhouse of South Korea, while they had five years without winning the AFC Champions League.
- Mamelodi Sundowns: The current champions of South Africa, they had won the CAF Champions League once in 2016. For the team is the second time they reach the CWC after being ranked the second-best eligible team in the rankings of the confederation.
- Predictions: we can talk about Borussia Dortmund qualifying, while is hard to see if Fluminense can lose a ticket with Ulsan or Mamelodi.

The final groups of the FIFA Club World Cup
Group G: Manchester City and Juventus against the desertic teams
- Group G is composed by Manchester City (England), Wydad AC (Morocco), Al Ain (United Arab Emirates) and Juventus (Italy)
- Winning the 2022-2023 UEFA Champions League gave Manchester City the ticket to the CWC and also it was the champion of the 2023 edition of this tournament in the old format. After coming back to the Premier League in the 2002-03 season, the Citizen had improved their football to even become stronger that its neighbors, Manchester United, winning the Premier League for four straight seasons between 2020 and 2024 and making the Treble in 2022-23. The team looks for a trophy to redime a bad year that almost pushed them out of the next edition of the UEFA Champions League and losing the FA Cup against Crystal Palace (and, I forget it, being eliminated in the Round of 32 of the UEFA Champions League).
- Located in Casablanca, Morocco. The Wydad Athletic Club won the 2022-23 CAF Champions League to clinch its ticket for its third participation in the CWC. While they are not going in their best shape as long as they had not won any tournament since then, despite that the Moroccan team had 22 league titles and three CAF Champions League in their honours.
- Another desertic team, Al Ain FC plays in Abu Dhabi, and clinched its ticket by winning the 2023-24 AFC Champions League. Is the second time the team joins the CWC, being the first one in 2018. They had 14 local league championships and 2 AFC Champions League trophies in their honours.
- Juventus, the eight best ranked team in UEFA, debuts in the CWC, while the team from Torino is not in their best times. Is the only team in Italy that can carry 3 stars in its logo by winning 36 Scudettos (the last one in 2019-20) and had won the UEFA Champions League twice. However the rising of teams like Inter Milan, Napoli and Atalanta had prevented Juventus to improve its honour numbers. They finished their last season on fourth position and where eliminated in the Knockout phase playoffs in the latest session of the UEFA Champions League.
Group H: Real Madrid... and the others
- Group H is composed by Real Madrid (Spain), Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia), Pachuca (Mexico), Red Bull Salzburg (Austria)
- What is not told about Real Madrid? Considered the best football club in history, Los Merengues, clinched their ticket to the CWC by winning the 2023-2024 UEFA Champions League. Maximum winners in La Liga (36 trophies), the UEFA Champions League (15 times) and in this Club World Cup (5 times). With a new trainer (Xabi Alonso), after the departure of Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid will try to cover up a trophyless year after finishing second in both La Liga and Copa del Rey and having left the UEFA Champions League in the Round of 32.
- Al-Hilal clinched its ticket by winning the 2021 AFC Champions League and sealing its fourth participation in the CWC. Four time winners of the AFC Champions League, the team knows that they don't have much possibilities in its group so they open the wallet and acquired former Inter Milan's coach, Simone Inzaghi, looking to give a surprise in the Group H.
- "El Poderosisimo" Pachuca (as Mexican sportscaster Raul Orvañanos describes the team), clinched its ticket by winning the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup and its the fifth time the Tuzos go to the tournament. Owned by Grupo Pachuca, the same organization that also owns the disqualified Club Leon, Pachuca is the oldest team in Mexico, that resurfaced in the 90s to win 7 tournaments in the Liga MX, being the last one in 2022 and winning 6 CONCACAF Champions Cup, also is the only Mexican team that won a CONMEBOL trophy by winning Copa Sudamericana in 2007. This year was not very good by only reaching the quarterfinals in the Liga MX.
- Red Bull Salzburg qualified to the tournament as the ninth-best ranked team in the UEFA (making some countries to scratch their heads such as Netherlands), normally we can see the team contending in the UEFA Champions League group or league phases or in the UEFA Europa League and this is so far, the less powerful European team.
- Predictions: Real Madrid should pass, while Pachuca has some possibilities, let's see if the money spent by Al-Hilal works.
Finishing that, is time of the question
What we have for this weekend?
- 2025 FIFA Club World Cup:
- The tournament starts on Saturday night in Miami, where Inter Miami will be playing against Al-Ahly
- On Sunday Bayern Munich will play against Auckland City in Cincinnati, and PSG will play against Atletico Madrid in Pasadena (while still questioning how they will deal with...)

- So Fi Stadium (Los Angeles) will have the starting game of the Gold Cup between Mexico and Dominican Republic

We'll see how things fare in thw CWC. It's going to be a true Early Game Hell for Xabi Alonso, and a premature elimination can potentially put his tenure on the danger zone already.
135 -> 180 -> 273 -> 191 -> 188 -> 230 -> 300 -> 311A little late to say this, but...
'CONGRATULATIONS TO PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN FOR THEIR FIRST-EVER CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!!!!!''
Who knew a young team like this could power through after a rough time in the UFEA Chapions League group stage? PSG proved that you don't need international superstars; just a cohesive, strong-willed and talented team to do the job.
The other two games of the day in the Club World Cup:
- Botafogo has a good first half and defeated Seattle Sounders 2-1.
- Palmeiras and Porto had a 0-0 draw and Group A games ended goalless.

The coach of Costa Rica, Miguel Herrera, being Miguel Herrera, celebrated it just like the goals that Mexico made back in 2014.
Today's games:
- Panama vs Guadalupe
- Jamaica vs Guatemala

Chelsea takes down Los Angeles F.C. with two goals from Meto and Hernandez, but they could have very well gone and capsized if they didn't wake up during second period and Los Angeles paying the price for all the lost occasions.
Next up in their group are Flamengo and Espérance Sportive de Tunis, while Boca and Benfica take the stage for the next game in two hours.

Club World Cup other results

Boca would be playing the ticket to the Round of 16 next Friday against Bayern Munich, while Benfica will play against Auckland City.

- Later in Seattle, River Plate had a good challenge against Urawa Red Diamonds, where River managed to score earlier with a goal from Facundo Colidio, but the Japanese team managed to avoid a second goal until the second half where a mistake of the defense lead to Sebastian Driussi to score the second goal (and leave the game injured after a bad fall), Yusuke Matsuo managed to put the Reds again in the game with a penalty kick in the minute 58, but they were unable to pull the tie, and Maximiliano Meza closed the score with the third goal for the "Millonarios", ensuring the first place fo the Group E.

Boy, I cannot wait to read the papers tomorrow full of old men complaining about young players being ungrateful and untalented and how we don't need to invest in infrastructure and youth sectors, but we need to get 40-year olds...
