I'm rooting for Inter Milan, but otherwise I'm not particularly excited for this Final.

I am forced to root for Inter for somehow managing to be the lesser evil. Much like the Conference League final, if this match was canceled and the cup left un awarded, it would be the better result. But with that impossible, "almost anybody but PSG" is the least evil result.

In other news, your Series C playoff final for the last promotion spot to Serie B will be between Pescara and Ternana.

Meanwhile, Brescia was penalized and will end up relegated to Serie C! Sampdoria has one final chance to save themselves via play-outs, but they will have to beat Salernitana to do so.

I'll tell you what if PSG did win the Champions League, everybody in whole wide web will be complaining about the match for years on end, especially when it's a football-related subreddit on Reddit. They're gonna be talking about how football has "lost" (just like how fans reacted to RB Leipzig winning back-to-back DFB Pokals in 2022 and 2023) or why Inter deserved to win because XYZ.

For me, though, I'm rooting for PSG to keep up with the Underdog theme we have for some teams. If not, well.....at least the match will be just as exciting as the previous finals.

Crazy stupid in battle. Crazy cupid on a nice date.

At the end of the first half, PSG is winning 2-0 over Inter. The Parisians had dominated the game and the smoke of their flares the stadium.

But Inter got me with that jacket. I want it.

[up] I think that was more in hope than belief lol. Must admit I was very concerned with their performance against Barcelona in the semi final, they seemed to just capitulate and were very lucky to not end up losing that game. Really shambolic performance from Inter, they looked utterly rubbish throughout.

Guess the underdog streak had to end somewhere.

Congrats to PSG, I guess. I have to say I expected a lot more from Inter Milan.

Luis Enrique has become the sixth manager to win the UCL with two different clubs, the other five being Hitzfield, Guardiola, Mourinho, Heynckes and Ancelotti.

Meanwhile, PSG is the second French club to win the competition, the first being Olympique in 1993.

So in the play-in to occupy the spot Leon left free after their exclusion from the CWC, LA FC beat America 2-1.

This makes mexican football looking really bad. This WCW debacle made the whole wolrd know about the controversy with multi-ownership within the league, how the league didn't back-up Grupo Pachuca because they were certain America would occupy their spot, and the cherry on top is that not America managed to classify, leaving the Mexican representatives at two instead of the original three.

If Club America fans wanted to be more upset.

Cruz Azul defeated Vancouver Whitecaps 5-0 and rises their 7th Concacaf Champions Cup trophy!!!

Also "La Maquina" is able to tie with Club America in this branch of honours (even jumping to first place as long as they have also 2 runner-up positions)

Hypermotion League

Back to Spain, the last week of the Hypermotion League (2nd Division) is over and Elche joins Levante in the promotion to La Liga by demolishing Deportivo La Coruña 4-0.

One place more will be defined in the promotion play-offs:

  • Third place ticket is for Real Oviedo after defeating Cadiz 2-1.
  • Fourth place ticket is for Mirandes after defeating Cartagena 3-1.
  • Fifth place ticket is retrieved for Racing Santander after defeating Granada 2-1.
  • The last ticket is for UD Almeria after defeating Tenerife 2-0.

Next week-end we have the game 1 of the promotion semifinals:

  • Almeria vs Real Oviedo
  • Racing Santander vs Mirandes

Sadly, Eldense, Tenerife, Racing Ferrol and Cartagena are relegated to the 1st Federation League (3rd Division)

A WILD FIFA DAY APPEARS!!

We have this week games of National Squads having:

  • World Cup Eliminatories
    • Would Ecuador be able to clinch its ticket to World Cup, Would Brazil would jump more in the table? Would Chile be able to react and jumps from its last position?
    • Third and fourth day in the UEFA side, not much to say.
    • Who will join Iran and Japan in the World Cup in the Asian side? Four tickets are in game this week!
  • UEFA Nations League
    • Germany, France, Spain and Portugal plays the Final Four.
  • National Squads in CONCACAF getting ready for Gold Cup
    • Would Mexico be able to show some game against Switzerland and Turkey?

And for fans of feminine UEFA football we have the replay of the World Cup final when Spain receives England in the UEFA Women Nations League tomorrow.

Today is the last game of the UEFA Women's Nations League:

What we have here?

  • Group A1 has Germany qualified for the Nations League Finals, Austria will have to play the relegation play-offs and Scotland is relegated to Group B, the games in this group are just useless as long as Germany can lose against Austria and Netherlands can defeat Scotland but still there is a big goal difference there.
  • France is already qualified to the finals in the Group A2, Norway plays a crutial game against Switzerland to avoid the relegation playoffs, same instance that Switzerland can reach combined with a victory of France over Iceland that can be saved by just tying against the French team combined with a defeat of Norway.
  • Group A3 still has some drama where Spain is playing the ticket for the Finals against England in Barcelona, a tie or a win would push the current World Champions (and current Nations League champions) to the finals. Meanwhile Portugal and Belgium play a game to define who will go to the relegation playoffs, Portugal can ensure this instance with a tie.
  • Group A4 has a battle in the North of Europe between Sweden and Denmark in Stockholm, while Italy plays to avoid relegation playoffs (or even jumping to the finals if Sweden and Denmark ties) in a game against Wales that is already relegated.
  • Group B has Poland and Ukraine already promoted, while Northern Ireland and Czech Republic clinched their tickets for the promotion playoffs. Slovenia will play today the promotion against Ireland in Group B2, while Serbia and Finland will do the same in Group B3.

Over in Serie C, Pescara manage to win the first leg of the Play-Off Finals against Ternana 1-0, with the Fiere spending most of the match down a man due to a red card.

The second leg will be played at Pescara's Stadio Adriatico, which will likely be packed to the gills for the possible return to Serie B after a few years of Serie C. Pescara will be promtoted if they win at home or draw either 0-0 or 1-1, whereas Ternana will drag it to extra time and penalties if they manage to score one goal or if the result is a draw of 2-2-2 or higher.

Advantaged, in front of your home crowd, with rumors that Marco Verratti may be interested in buying out 40% of the club to relaunch its ambitions? ...Yeah, I feel the upset from Ternana coming from a mile away...

The UEFA Women's Nations League had finished it regular season:

  • Group A1 had Germany demolishing Austria in its home soil 6-0, while Netherlands tied 1-1 with Scotland.
  • Group A2 had France finishing with a clean sheet (6 straight victories) by defeating Iceland 2-0, while Norway defeated 1-0 Switzerland and sends them to relegation.
  • In Group A3, Spain clinches the Semifinals by defeating England 2-1, Belgium defeats Portugal 3-0 and sends them to relegation.
  • The last team to clinch the Semifinals is Group A4's Sweden by demolishing Denmark 6-1, Italy did the same with Wales 4-1 but it was left two points behind.
  • The teams relegated to League B are: Scotland, Switzerland, Portugal and Wales.
  • The teams promoted from League B to League A are: Poland, Slovenia, Serbia and Ukraine.
  • The teams that will defend its position in League A are: Austria, Iceland, Belgium and Denmark and will have to defend against Northern Ireland, Ireland, Finland and Czech Republic.
  • Teams relegated from League B to League C are: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Romania, Belarus, Greece and Croatia.
  • Teams promoted from League C to League B are: Israel, Slovakia, Malta, Luxemburg, Latvia and Montenegro
  • Albania and Turkey will have to defend their League B positions against Cyprus and Kosovo.

Semifinals and Promotion/Relegation playoffs will be played in October.

Meanwhile Simone Inzhagi, coach of Inter Milan, left the team to move on to be the coach of Arabic team Al-Hilal and will debut in the Fifa Club World Cup.

I can't help but wonder if he would have stayed at Inter had the team won the UCL, or at least if they lost by fewer goals. I just feel that the Curb-Stomp Battle by PSG erased any interest on the club's part in continuing Inzaghi's project.

Yesterday the UEFA Nations League Final Four started with the victory of Portugal 2-1 against Germany in Munich.

After a weak first half, the German team managed to open the score with a Florlan Wirtz that managed to sneak into the area and score with the head in the minute 48, however a beautiful goal of Francisco Conceicao at the minute 63 and then Cristiano Ronaldo taking good advantage of a wonderful assistance of Nuno Mendes marked the victory for the lusitans that wait for the winner between Spain and France tonight in Stuttgart.

Holy Cow!

France came back from behind to convert a Curb-Stomp Battle into an almost Epic Come Back.

Spain was leading 5-1 after Lamine Yamal scored his second goal of the game near minute 65, and someone will think will end this way, huh?

Then the French bench took control of the game and went to three unanswered goals to leave the score 5-4 with one minute to go in the aggregate time.

But it was not enough and Spain will play Portugal in the Final, while the French will play Germany for third place in the Nations League.

Yes, the AFC qualifiers third round reached its fifth game and we have three more teams that joins the three hosts as well as Japan, New Zealand, Iran and Argentina.

ASIAN QUALIFIERS

Uzbekistan conquered the second place after tying the United Arab Emirates 0-0, with this result the team scored 18 points, 5 points away from the Emirates, that along with Qatar (that defeated Iran 1-0) will move into the Fourth Round.

Meanwhile Jordan defeated Oman 3-0 to stay closer to the second place ticket, and in Basra, South Korea defeated Iraq 2-0 to clinch the first place ticket, giving Jordan the second place ticket and sending Iraq to the fourth round. In this group the second ticket to the Fourth Round is still hanging between Oman and Palestine that would play on June 10th in Jordan.

Group C had more drama as long as Australia defeated Japan in the last minute and reaches second place with 16 points, but Saudi Arabia managed to defeat Bahrain in their soil 2-0 and is three points near Australia. Indonesia victory over China allowed the team to clinch its ticket to the Fourth Round.

The big game for June 10th is between Saudi Arabia and Australia, if the Socceroos keep at least a tie they are in the World Cup, but winning at home will give the Arabs the ticket.

SOUTH AMERICA QUALIFIERS

With two games left to play:

  • Paraguay defeated 2-0 Uruguay
  • Ecuador tied 0-0 with Brazil
  • Chile was defeated at home by Argentina 1-0 and practically is starting to say goodbye to World Cup.
  • Today Colombia vs Peru and Venezuela vs Bolivia closes week 15.

The magic number to qualify directly to World Cup is 28, the maximum number of points Venezuela can get (still having four games) plus 1. Argentina had already passed the number. A victory of Bolivia can change the number to 27.

The magic number to get at least into the Inter-confederation play-offs is 27, the maximum number of points Bolivia can get plus one. Chile is very far to reach the number and if Peru loses against Colombia will join its neighbors.

WHAT WE HAVE THIS WEEK-END

  • CONCACAF Qualifiers: The long road for the other teams to reach for the World Cup continues with Honduras, Jamaica and Panama taking center stage.
  • UEFA Qualifiers: Game 3 starts with the teams eliminated from the Nations League joining, with special attention in Norway vs Italy and Finland vs Netherlands.
  • The final games of the UEFA Nations League: Germany vs France for the third place and Spain vs Portugal in the final game on Sunday.
  • The hosts of the World Cup in friendly games: Mexico vs Switzerland, USA vs Turkey and Canada vs Ukraine in preparation for the Gold Cup.
