Why on earth is the "lighter" pic so popular? It's just the same, uh... "stream" of fire (not sure what the terminology is for that) having different colours at different positions. I'd say the fiery pots are much more convincing, as they involve different fires being different colours, which happens in real life. (Think back to high school chemistry class.) That would call attention to how this is Truth in Television, which would in turn make for a rather interesting page image.

From Google: [1], [2]

Also, we might do a collage:

Pink Fire:
Prince Of Egypt [3]

Green Fire:
Fire [4], [5]
Justice League Unlimited: [6], [7]
Harry Potter: [8], [9]
Super Smash Bros: [10]
World Of Warcraft: [11]
The King Of Fighters: [12], [13]
Sleeping Beauty: [14], [15], [16], [17], [18], [19], [20], [21], [22]

Blue Fire:
Ao No Exorcist: [23]
Hellboy: [24], [25]
Harry Potter: [26], [27]
Heroes: [28]
The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time: [29]
Avatar The Last Airbender: [30], [31], [32]

I am honest-to-god not finding good pictures of purple flames in fiction. This is the best I've got:

World Of Warcraft: [33]

[up][up] The "firepots" pic in the crowner covers multiple colors already.

Yes, but it's not from a work of fiction. Doing a collage would represent multicolored fire in the different ways it's used in fiction (as hair, as fire-breath, as magical ornaments, for mood settings...), as well as represent it actually being seen in fiction.

[up] I see your point, but in this case I think a RL example makes more of a visual impact...anyone can make a fictional fire any color they want to, but to see something actually burning and giving off a weird flame has more punch.

Re: #28 — I thought Malificent in dragon-form blasting away with fire was striking. (If we can go with an image from a work that would inherently be better since we're trying to picture a trope.) *

Good lord, the alternate lighter is just SNAZZY! I totally want one so I can stare at it forever.

[up][up] That's a great pic, but unfortunately the art makes the flames kinda look like liquid, at least to me.

I don't. That's one of the dullest pics we have so far, if you ask me.

I don't like the lighters at all. They're not indicative of what we expect examples to look like. I'd prefer a picture that looks like an example.

[up][up] Agreed; I'd much prefer a real or "real" fire to something that's an obvious Photoshop.

How about this:

Shows the contrast between "normal" fire and the titular supernatural fire.

I find myself preferring the potted fire that's in 2nd place of the crowner. Maybe because I find it both realistic and cool...but whatever, that's just me.

I personally don't care about realism so I'm going with whatever is the coolest and holy damn, alt lighter is just so snazzy...

I guess it just comes down to then if you prefer it to be realistic or not, for me, in this case, I kinda want a realistic looking image. But obviously YMMV.

Well, this crowner's nowhere near stable yet, so let's see how the weekend goes.

Well, it appears that Alternate Lighter Pic is on the lead and is likely to stay that way.
