@Night: You can shoot through other marines with your bolter, so I guess the guards are similarly Friendly Fireproof.
@Neo Crimson: What did the old Shokk Attack Guns do?
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."@Neo Crimson: Uhm, to my knowledge they still shoot snotlings through the warp, though those don't come out whole if you rolled a double 4.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Just finished playing the demo.
I could say a lot of things, but most of it has already been said.
But i gotta do one thing. I gotta apologize to this game for calling the weapon effects "Tingy". I am sorry, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine for at any point doubting that you had perfected the audio bliss that your weapons emit. The bolter alone... It's as deep as the bassist of a heavy metal band.
I haven't felt this badass since Doom. That is literally the highest compliment i can give any game.
You are not alone.A question for those who played the demo: what style of combat did you use? Did you focus on your ranged weapons, or wade in with chainsword and power axe? Or something in between?
Me, I personally have tried a lot of different ways to beat the demo, and both a lot of melee and a lot of ranged is fun. Using melee to build up fury and then using ranged fury with a bolter works quite well.
"The fact that your food can be made into makeshift bombs alarms the Hell out of me, Scrye." - CharlatanI pretty much mirror the enemy, picking off Shoota Boyz with some sort of boltgun fire and using Slugga Boyz as medpacks in between general dismemberment.
Kind of interesting how this runs directly counter to the tabletop game.
Marines are such generalists there that you want to engage shooty adversaries in close combat and blast melee specialists from a distance.
Now for some petty, pointless griping because this demo was awesome and I'm totally getting this game:
You're a little vulnerable for a Space Marine. Game mechanics, I know, but the way they've done it is strange as well. The whole regenerating shield mechanic. Personally, I would've gone with regenerating health full stop after a certain period of disengagement with the enemy. Also, while shootas are accurately useless against you without support, your average Slugga Boy does a fair amount of damage in close combat. I don't have much of a way to get around that and keep it fun beyond throwing more focus on elite adversaries.
Nobz are kinda too powerful considering that you're a Captain. Considering that they often lead Ork mobs into battle, I'd have more of them and make them less powerful.
A parry button would've been nice. I know they're going for the whole aggression combat thing, but a parry function would make you more versatile in combat and could be linked to the medpack-kill mechanic.
There aren't a whole lot of combos for a game so dependent on close combat.
I would've preferred to see Tyranids as the main antagonists, but that's always what I think so whatever. Although that could fuck up the game something bad; Tyranids have even more close combat potential than Orks, which means Space Marines can't even begin to compare to their dedicated, elite close combat units. Even a Space Marine Captain can get his shit ruined by a single Genestealer, and there are Tyranid Warrior builds that completely fuck anything on the same or smaller base size. And then you have Hive Tyrants, some builds of which will match or exceed Greater Daemons in offensive (and defensive!) potential. So I can see why they didn't.
Ultramarines; why? Relic could've used this opportunity to give us a look at the Blood Ravens, or even partake in battles we've played from the Commander's perspective as a grunt. Although I guess there's no narrative tension there... but it would've been cool, yeah? Even discounting that option, we could've been a Black Templar or a Blood Angel or something. Or a Deathwatch Black Templar! That would've been awesome.

Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — WatchI start off tactical, chipping away at the hordes with my bolter and using terrain to my advantage to minimize damage (I can't say i Take Cover!) before wading in with my melee once i see an opening. If there are too many enemies, i use the vengeance launcher to set up traps or soften them up with grenades. I usually save my fury for the Nobs.
You are not alone.I think Relic wants to take a break from blood ravens. Its not like we haven't had 4 or 5 games & expansions about them already.
Also generally I open with a full set of vengeance launcher shots followed by a couple grenades. Then I use the Bolter on those who approach me which at that point I go melee.

Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.

How big is the demo on the 360, memory-wise? Might check it out. If the demo on the 360 is out yet, of course.
