Stumbled across this one, and it's just a picture of the overly-decorated Supreme Military Commander, President-for-Life, and King of Kings Abdul Fakkadi representing the Socialist Democratic Federated Republic of Carbombya from Transformers Generation 1 with his Commissar Cap and a caption explaining who they are and what they want.

That doesn't show anything about the country this guy represents, or it's supposed "People's Republic" who is actually ruled by a dictatorship.

As much as I'd rather NOT suggest this, looking through the examples on the page, there is a map in Order Of The Stick showing the "People's Democratic Dictatorship" and "Dictatoria"... though the wording is far too small to make a proper picture out of.

I'm thinking it might be best to leave pictureless unless someone can find a better map with a more legible example pinned on it.

You have to point it at the actual page to get the tag to show up on the page. You pointed it at the redirect, which will take you to the page from the forum, but won't put a tag at the top of the page.

I went to the page, copy and pasted the title at the top of the page like I always do, and put it in the article section when I made the topic. Last night when I made this topic, It didnt give me a Ptitle. It gave me "People's Republic Of Tyranny"

The easy way to make sure that you have it pointed at the right page is to copy the name that's in the url rather than at the top of the page.

You have to use the ptitle because that's the url location.

Well, a propaganda poster could always work, but I'd prefer one that a) displays the trope better and b) is in English.

This, or something similar, with the caption "Daily life in North Korea."?

One could argue that it's the real-life equivalent of JAFAAC, but really... Would anyone believe a poster like that?

The problem with that one (and the ones I linked) is that the actual trope - a country being named something like "People's Democratic Social Republic of Glorious Happy Fun Land" and turning out to be a brutal totalitarianism - is not being shown. Perhaps with the caption:

Full name: Democratic People's Republic of Korea

[up] and [up][up] For the record, I believe that's Chairman Mao from China and not Kim Il Sung or Kim Jung Il, based on the little red books and the characters. He works just as well, though.

How about a contrast image? A juxtaposition of propaganda poster with a real life image to show the utmost difference? Can't think of any examples of how this could work though :-/

I don't like the transformers image myself though. If it all fails, maybe we could try for a propaganda image that is clearly Blatant Lies.

http://chineseposters.net/themes/index.php has a lot of Chinese posters. Surely one of them has gotta fir the criteria?

I rather like the original image — a big chest of medals and that cap says military dictator to me. The shorthand of representing a tyranny by showing a tyrant is a useful one.

Yes, but it doesn't capture the 'people's republic' bit.

Bump...I still prefer the pic of Chairman Mao, but if anyone else has ideas, let's hear them.

http://www.thedoghousediaries.com/?p=1833 Here's a nice little diagram that I think would fit the page.

[up] Seems hard tosay no. It neatly illustrates the trope. My heart is still after an obvious propaganda piece but I have no practical objections to the diagram, other than that maybe it is a bit too plain.

That image is almost wholly text. We have the main text to convey the trope in words.

I find the Chairman Mao posters to be at as indirect as our friend with all the medals, but maybe that's just me.

Diagram looks perfect to me, not too much text and still shows clearly what this is about.

Add another vote for the diagram. It may have text, but it's the Venn Diagram that's the important part. Strip out the visual and the text alone doesn't do squat.
