So, one of the things I've been working on in my Worldbuilding project is a country modeled after the Philippines. The only problem I have, though, is trying to pick a theme for it. For example, should I model it after the Philippines during colonization with the Spanish, or the Philippines before the Spanish arrived?

What does anybody else think? Any suggestion is welcome.

What timeframe are the other fantasy counterpart cultures based on for their countries? How anachronistic are you willing to get? Also, will you put in the Phillipines' national anthem, because it is the catchiest national anthem ever?

Well, I'd like to explore different time periods. But, for the most part, the time period probably would be around the 1500s or a little earlier. And I don't mind anachronism that much, but I don't want to go overboard with it.

And I would put the national anthem, if I could find a way to justify it in a fantasy world, heh. [lol]

You know, I haven't really thought of what to call it. ^_^; I haven't settled on any country names yet, that seems to be a weak spot of mine.

Since you gave the time frame...I thought of, uh, pre-Spanish Philippines at the start of the Spanish conquest. I mean, a good part of the country's still untouched, but they have heard of the conquerors who has managed to subjugate a number of settlements. I dunno, makes for good politics/tension/cultural conflict. 8P

If we go forward in time, I guess late 1800s-early 1900s is also an interesting time. Filipinos throw off their Spanish conquerors only to be greeted by another wave of Westerners.
