Okay people, recommendation time.
As you may have gathered from previous posts, I freakin' love Scotch. However, I have my 21st birthday coming up soon and I'm graduating on Monday - so I feel like celebrating in style by getting myself a bottle of something nice. Hit me with your whisky recommendations and descriptions thereof. Any whisky will do, and I'll not list any of my preferences - I'll just go with whichever description sounds most appealing. Nothing too expensive, mind - I may be feeling celebratory but I still ain't rich >_>

Listen to Music with Tropers at The Troper Turntable!Discovered last night that I can't buy alcohol at the store after midnight on a weekday. I'm assuming this is a law of the state of Texas, but regardless, it's almost as stupid as dry Sundays.
I assume it's supposed to combat late night drunk driving, but wouldn't it be more effective to refuse to sell to the obviously intoxicated?
I was tempted to poke at the rule a bit. "Would I be asked to leave if I stood here at the register until I could buy it?" "What would happen if I opened a bottle and started to drink it right here? Would you be forced to force me to buy it?"

It'll be a bottle, to appreciate and last me a while, drinking at home with friends. When I say celebrating in style, I don't mean just on the night, getting trashed. I mean essentially buying myself a present

Listen to Music with Tropers at The Troper Turntable! In that case, go with a fifth of Maker's Mark. Drink it over ice, slowly. If Scotch is more your thing, Glenmorangie 10 year. It won't break your bank and tastes pretty smooth.
For the truly poor, Evan Williams.
For the "sweet is neat" crowd, Bird Dog blackberry bourbon. It has the Madrugada seal of approval.
If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~I'm already familiar with Glenmorangie, but I'll take Maker's Mark into consideration, it's surprisingly easy to find here in the UK. Thanks! I'll leave the floor open for more recommendations though, I've got a while yet before I decide...
Listen to Music with Tropers at The Troper Turntable!Don't know about dry Sundays in Texas. I just know that we have dry Sundays in Indiana and it was probably a state law that kept me from buying booze after midnight on Monday night.
Fresh-eyed movie blogHow the hell do they enforce that? I mean, if I crack a beer on a Sunday, are the cops going to hear the noise and kick in my door?
I know that liquor stores aren't open on Sunday in my home state, but bars can serve and you can sure as hell get drunk in your own living room.
If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~They can't sell liquor on Sundays and I think the bars are closed as well. Not sure, because I don't go to bars much. They can't stop you from drinking what you've got, and there are places that encourage you to stock up on Saturdays.
Fresh-eyed movie blogLiquor stores are closed on Sundays. Bars are normally open. Depending on county.
Fight smart, not fair.I'm drinking on a Sunday.
Also, even if you're not someone that likes tequila, I highly suggest El Jimador. It's the first tequila that I've had where I can sip it neat without it being horrible. Really smooth, and with a citrus-y pepper-y bite to it. I rather like it.
"I don't know how I do it. I'm like the Mr. Bean of sex." -DrunkscriblerianWent out and had a couple beers with the guys I've been working for on this internship, as my going-away event. I don't remember the name of the lighter stuff I had first (the stylized tap handle looked like a cigarette pack), but I liked the darker Thirsty Goat a lot better. I think I could get to enjoy Thirsty Goat almost as much as I enjoy cider.
