Yes, I get the reference, but usually that reference is used if you believe there to be a legitimate nuclear risk.

What's precedent ever done for us?

I don't know enough about the issue but from my understanding many officials are actually not allowing people to conduct tests on this resource and just lockign it away. Am I correct on that?

No, there's lots of tests going on all of the time. It's just not considered "popular" yet, meaning that people aren't going to be shoving money down your throat to finish the project.

I'm skeptical of it myself but I wouldn't jump tot he conclusion of being scare of it.

According to The Other Wiki, iridium doesn't have significant use in those areas. It's more closely related to tungsten in usage, but isn't used in weapons due to cost.

The paint used on ironsights is tritium paint. Iridium is really only special for being the densest known material to Man. (And being damnably hard to find on this planet but easy to get on asteroids and other space rocks.)

So I didn't remember my Clancy very well. I'm not worried though, he seems to have forgotten how to hold a pen.

Bear in mind that much of his more recent stuff is ghostwritten. Tom Clancy books being a byword for Shown Their Work fidelity is a thing of the past.

Tom, Osmium is slightly denser. Iridium is the second densest material known to man.

Osmium is cool. Used for dental tools, as far as I know. I used it as a basis for a phlebotinum alloy (for armor and other high-strength applications).

You don't need a reason, but you do need a pretext.

I won't worry about the radiation in terms of bananas until it's...

<Deep breath>

OVER NINE THOUSAAAAA-<thumped>

Actually, it sounds like if you ate 9000 bananas, you would die of radiation poisoning o_o

If you eat 1000 bananas, your chance of death by radiation increases by 1-in-a-million. (Though chance of death by other things may be very different.)

I don't think you could eat 9000 bananas in a short enough period of time that it would accumulate, without the fact that you're eating 9000 of most anything within said period of time killing you.

I am reminded of the movie Seven.

That's a lot of bananas to shove down your throat.

EDIT: Wait, where this banana thing even come from? What do bananas have that protects against radiation? Anything at all?

MISREAD, ha.

The radiation bananas emanate is used as a comparison in an effort to allay fears of nuclear power. Since just about everything radiates some radiation, something that people often don't understand.

Oh, I understand that. Though I must wonder, how would people react if I just ran into a random room and starting screaming "I'm radioactive!"

Panic? Strange looks? An officer taking me away?

Technically, almost anything can give you cancer if you have high enough doses of it without dying of poisoning first.

I may have died of poisoning, but at least I didn't die of cancer!
