I know, can you imagine? Competent Kate. Sayid, of course, would be the leader. Jack...could stew in his daddy issues somewhere. And maybe some genius could think up a way to make the Island make sense.
...Although the only way I've been able to is by shuffling off the Island and anything that happens on it as magic.

I think Rationalist fics only would really work in real-world-person-enters-fantastic-world scenarios. The ones you listed have protagonists that are native to the settings, so their characters are already 'Rational' by their universes' standards.
There's "rational" as in, follows logically based on your own assumptions about how the world works, and then there's "rational" which is making sure you actual know how the world works, and that you're not tricking yourself, playing into fallacies, etc. The main Rationalist Fics (Methods, Luminosity) do work well because they have a rational outsider, but I think one based around a rational insider would work as well, just differently.
I wrote something about this on that other site
a couple days ago, in a different context. Everything I said there applies here.

I have recently discovered this small genre of fanfics, and I am please to report that this an absolutely brilliant idea. It worked very well with Harry Potter, and it opens up a lot of new ideas.
Rationalist Sora, anyone?
And by extention, Rationalist Roxas.
