Oh I've no objections against a "why not?" type scenario, I was just making sure you just want to have them keep deal and that's it. Though I also feel without it, it removes the element of Neal having any last scheme at all and would just be an infiltration played straight. I can 100% see where you are coming from. My only real issue I can come up with is if everything is just played straight, all this season might be then is a normal episode played longer than usual. I do wish the cat & mouse game, Neal vs. Peter, was played more though for this final part. Plus Neal really doesn't have much reason to trust the government at this point. That still has to be factored in.

Also, Neal did know that, but still, Keller wouldn't have been in that position if he wasn't the type of person who would make those choice. Neal just reacted in advance to what Keller would do. He didn't force Keller to do it though. Keller acted entirely on his own free will and he reached the logical conclusion for it.

The last con could have been played on the panthers, and the panthers only, convincing them that Keller was the true (and only) more.

It would still lack that Neal vs. Peter aspect though. Plus the fact that Neal was after more and had one large final con setup from the start of the season started before he knew about Kellers involvement. If the con is purely on the Panthers alone, then again, it's just a longer version of a regular episode as opposed to the final arc & culmination of everything that has been building.

Oh and I actually am glad they brought Keller back for the final season and essentially to serve as the final obstacle. I think this season helped to show once again how he was Neal's Evil Counterpart in a number of ways and that if Neal did go down the route Keller does, well, he would have just been living on borrowed time.

Don't get me wrong, I can see where you're coming from. Right now I'm genuinely trying to think of a way of addressing Neal being completely free in New York as well, have a happy ending, and still maintain Neal's character arc with regards to the lawful side as I think them just giving him what he wants after being screwed over repeatedly and him not coming up with an alternate plan/just trusting they won't screw him over this time feels a bit of a cop out for that arc.

[up]Depends on how you write it. His last con could have been bringing the brass into a situation in which they have to agree to his freedom in order not to embarrass themselves. Plus, for a last con on Peter this was pretty weak. It has been established in the show that Neal faked his dead before and Peter always caught onto it, never mind that he should have recognized the paramedic. I would have preferred a situation in which Neal is forcing the FBI to keep their word, and someone basically tells Peter that he should "control his CI", and Peter just leans back and lets Neal do what he has to do. (Plus, the basic idea that the FBI would be able to hold Neal forever is ridiculous either way. Even if we assume that one season doesn't equal one year, his four year sentences should be over or nearly over. Every good lawyer would be able to spring Neal at this point).

Did Neal fake his death before? I don't remember it at all. I will agree there that it isn't the best they could pull there, but still, alternative options wise, I'm just not feeling things as strongly in your suggestions. Since even then, it's not Neal vs. Peter.

Also, if I do remember right, the first time it was a case of trying to unearth all kinds of crimes he committed to further his sentence. His sentence was extended for the escape (back to a 4 year plan, if I remember right) and... I actually don't know how much time Neal had left. Regardless, from what I can tell, it's more just them looking for legal loopholes and excuses to extend his sentence and deny him what he asks for. Given some of the stuff it's been shown at times police pull and get away with, my personal favorite being civil forfeiture, it's not something that really shocks me as doable.

I just sure as hell hope this isn't setting up a pattern. USA's had another person in a similar situation to Neil pull off the exact same sort of ending. One's circumstance, two's coincidence, three's a pattern. We're on two with this, as far as I know. If Covert Affairs eventually ends this way it'll seem like USA's sending the message that no one in the government can be trusted and the only way to have a life is to fake your own death.

With Burn Notice reference there, it's what I was thinking as well. To be fair, it's less either of them problem wise and more faking one's death is just an effective way to get people to not fuck with you. Also, doesn't Annie want to work for the government in Covert Affairs and her problem is that they're trying to force her to retire because of her heart problems? I can't remember for certain as I'm not big into it, but I let it roll when it's on.

I thought it was 6 seasons OR a movie, not 6 season and a movie. tongue Though in retrospect, this season could have been pretty much wrapped up in a movie's time.

I know, it was just the only other comparable show they're currently running that I can think of at the moment. All the others are regular cop dramas or lawyer comedies or something like that.

You know, coming off of my end series high, I'm feeling that the last two episodes felt a bit rushed.

A new little fact I learned from reading an interview, but with more what was going on in that final situation. It's the chase being back on. Neal's ultimate decision was that he is what he is - a criminal - and that his next target is the Louve. Peter, who had settled down, was happy to see that the chase was in action again and it's Neal vs. Peter once more.

Oh and they do want to do a TV movie, but will see what comes of that.

The original ending actually would have just had them take down the Pink Panthers, Neal's free and he's at a crossroads in life. He'd flip a coin to help decide. If it landed on tails, he'd go the criminal route and join with Mozzie, becoming top ranking master criminals. That being the future shown with Mozzie. If it landed heads, he's go the the FBI, become one of their agents, eventually gain Peter's spot, and so forth. It would end with the coin about to land and them cutting away to remove the reveal which way he's go.

5 year old necro ahoy!

So I picked up this series because I've been a longtime fan of "criminal-hunting criminals" genre. After weighing between this series and Suits, I went with this one.

Watched pilot and it interests me enough to pick up ep 2. And wow, Neal Caffrey is freaking gorgeous even to a guy like me. [lol]

Watched up to season 2 ep 9 now.

Long story short, I'm glad I found another buddy crime show I can enjoy! The interactions between Caffrey and Burke is one of the better duo I've seen in these kinds of series, and some of the things Caffrey and co pull off are pretty darn brilliant, although they don't awe me like ones in Leverage do for me (and I'm talking about ones that don't involve hacking).

I found it amusing that I was far more attached to Mozzie than Kate. When Kate died, I was actually cheering and thought it was a good riddance. When Mozzie almost died? I went "No! Not him!" I love that guy and even if I didn't, I would like him to stick around for how useful he is.

Willie Garson (Mozzie) is a cool actor. I've seen him in so many things by now he's just a household name for me. And yes, Matt Bomer turns even my head. It was a good show, but it kind of outgrew itself. All its major stars found themselves offered other roles, which made them jack up their contracts. It became too much of a burden for the channel.

And the show being set in New York probably already was a burden to the production budget, I'd imagine.

Finished Season 2 Ep 11.

A nice, short flashback episode. Still don't like Kate, though. For some reason, Neal asking for a handshake with armed SWAT officers surrounding and aiming at his head looked really badass. Reckless, but pretty badass. [lol]

Watched ep 3 of season 3.

Oh man, an entire episode about Mozzie? Fucking win.

Also, I just love it whenever Peter does pretending acts like Neal. The "If your hot wife gets lonely, tell her to call me!" line was just...it was just great. [lol]
