Alright, slight modification to an idea I've seen before.

[quoteblock]"Welcome, champions, to the arena! Whether you fight for fame, for wealth, or for a specific goal, just remember. You're all here to win. And, though regulation states we must allow you to bring one weapon in with you, I must remind you. Music is the ultimate weapon here. Before you finish your registration, I would like to refer you to the sign on the wall, with this arena's regulations."

  • You will each be given a subdermal MP 3 player. You will use this to listen to your music.
  • You are all allowed one weapon per bout.
  • Firearms are disallowed. Either melee weaponry, or archaic weaponry such as bows, only.
  • If you wish, you may forego the use of a weapon.
  • Entrants may have two special powers, or one. Entrants with two must forego the use of a weapon.
  • Contestants may earn the right to use more powerful equipment and techniques as their record grows. Details will be given when necessary.
  • You will never fight in the same arena twice. Arenas will depend on the number and abilities of combatants.
  • All contestants will enter through elevators evenly spaced throughout the arena.
  • Doors will open on all elevators simultaneously with the music beginning.
  • If your song ends before the fight does, you have the option of foregoing music, putting yourself at a disadvantage, or cycling through to another song.
  • Remember, the audience loves you. Try not to make it boring.

As you approach the registration table, you quickly scan the registration forms, taking in the basics.[/quoteblock]

Alright, now time for the nitty gritty. Basically, this is a fighting RP. In between fights(and sometimes during if you can pull it off), will be character development. There is little actual plot unless you want to give your character a personal one, to allow for easy access to the game by newcomers.

Combat will work in ten second rounds. Each post represents ten seconds of combat. Try and be as detailed as possible. At the beginning of each fight, you will choose a song to fight to. That song will be affecting your combat style. At the end of each round of describing your actions, I will make a recap post of what happened, and how much time has elapsed. Use this to judge what part of your song you are in, to help determine how you should be fighting. For example. Super-speed BPM House music will likely make you into a fragile speedster, bouncing off the walls. Some melancholy piano music will make most into The Stoic. Get creative with it, okay? I want to see what you can do. I look forward to playing with you soon.

Evil: Yeah, go ahead.

And as for being human, it's cool if you aren't. But if being non-human grants you, like, flight or five arms or something, that shall count as a power. Sufficient weaknesses to make up for it are okay. Like vampires. I don't count their strength, because of sun and garlic and junk.

So what does music have to do with this? To be honest, I was REALLY hoping for a Musical Assassin versus Musical Assassin RP.

Themusic affects your fight, giving you extra abilities. For example, the BPM will affect your speed in the fight. The amplitude will be affecting your power. Depending on the song itself(title, theme, and lyrics), one other effect will come into play. This may be an effect over the whole battlefield, or it maybe an extra ability for your character. It depends on the song. And if the song changes it up in the middle, so can you.Whatever part your character is listening to, that is the part that affects him or her. Hence the ten second post duration. Make sure everyone is even, as far as their songs are concerned.

  • Name: Sten Vulfjaol(Wolfyowl)
  • Age: 31
  • Appearance: Kind of chubby and bald, but still tall and imposing.
  • Personality: Sten is the stereotypical washed-up rocker. He is really self-absorbed, and hates newer music of any sort.
  • Weaponry: A gigantic metal funnel, which is conveniently ludicrously acoustic.
  • Special Abilities: Make Me Wanna Shout, of the concussive roar sort.
  • Preferred musical style: Heavy Metal/Screamo
  • Backgroud(optional): Vulfjaol learned of his power from a young age, after joining his first band, The Most of You, and blowing apart his school. He stared weaponizing his voice, taking out competition at battles of the bands and destroying critics. He became, for a time, an idol, until his figure stopped being appealing and his albums lost sales. Now, with a chip on his shoulder against the new generation and nothing to lose, Sten joined the fighting circuit, armed with nothing but his voice and a great deal of his old music.

Glad I have some interest. Here, have some competition, now that I know my profile wont be lonely...

  • Name: John Flerrick
  • Age: 17
  • Appearance: http://media.photobucket.com/image/anime%20guy/AnonymousLolita/Anime%20Male/anime-guy.jpg?o=9
  • Personality: Loves his music. He fights for the sake of it. He never wants to let it go, or give it up. He will fight every day of his life if it means he gets to enjoy his music in this new way.
  • Weaponry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2A1uh7ClKw
    • Basically this. Glowstringing, but with Lawyer Friendly Cameos of lightsabers, about a foot long. Variable length string, depending on how fast he swings them.
  • Special Abilities: Can literally see rhythm. Of any kind, but sound especially.
  • Preferred musical style: Dubstep
  • Background(optional): John has never been exactly...normal. Ostracized by his parents because he was always at parties, of the Rave variety, ostracized by his peers because he refused to get high at said parties. Of course, he didn't need to. The dubstep, music his peers claimed was meant to be enjoyed on drugs, was what he really wanted. While the music made his fellows' vision swim through their drug filled craze, his swam with the sheer beauty of it. The high BPM intros. The bass drops. The subtle similarities by a single artist. The remixes of existing sound bytes. He loved it, and he never wanted to lose it. So when he was arrested at a mass raid of a rave he was attending,he went a little insane. It had only been a week, but the only rhythm in that place was the tapping of the guards shoes. And even then, they went into a weird little shuffle step whenever they passed John, just to bug him. So of course he jumped at the chance to enter the arena. They had his weaponry built for him, a modified version of the glowsticks he used to rave with, and he entered with a smile.

Name: Eliot Nadel

Age: 17

Personality: Eliot is a hedonist to the core. He loves women, money, and candy, although he often mistakes girly looking men for the former. However, he can be genuinely nice, and even selfless at times. He is extremely spirited and outgoing too, and likes to make friends with everyone. He also loves kittens.

Appearance: At exactly six feet two, Eliot's a little tall for his age. He has fairly long blue hair, mostly because he hates the barber's shop (He's worried about getting his ears chopped off.) He usually dresses in formal styles, usually wearing a tuxedo vest, button up shirt, tie, slacks, and dress shoes. He always wears a pair of pink heart-shaped sunglasses.

Weaponry: He has a lot. However, most of it is just mundane objects. -A swivel chair he rides around in. -A baseball bat. -The blade of a paper cutter he stole from a nearby office building. -Some scissors he stole from a nearby Office Depot. -A pair of headphones. Stolen too. He uses them to strangle people. -A box cutter. Once again, stolen. -A suitcase with a coffee maker inside. He can hit enemies with it, or throw mugs of hot coffee. He did not steal this, in fact. It was a gift from his mother. Who stole it.

Special Abilities: He can summon the many cats that live in his house, around twenty or thirty. They follow his orders, feel no pain while they're summoned, and while they can "die," they simply respawn at his house in a few minutes.

Preferred musical style: Usually stuff that's gone viral. Think Rickroll.

Backgroud(optional): He's in it because he thinks chicks dig guys who fight using music and can summon cats.

Alright, cool. You two want to go ahead and start with two? I've changed the rules a bit(nd will eventually update the OP). Now, you roll an attack and defend d6. GM will assign bonuses and penalties based on situation(which means it still relies heavily on your strategy. If I deem something undodgeable, I'll make the rolls impossible to beat...or bypass them entirely). Also, I will be NP Cing that kid up there. There can be pvp, pve, individual and team fights. How would you like to start?

Since you are using your own MP 3 players, will your music be constantly clashing with your opponents? Or will only you be listening to your music as you fight for motivation? And how much of an effect will the crowd have?

The music only affects you, and enhances your abilities. I nver really thought about the crowd having an effect in battle. I was thinking more along the lines of using popularity as a level up stand in. The more popular you are, the more money the arena makes when you fight, the more willing they are to let you bring in more weapons/cheat in your favor.

So the music affects you, huh? Is it playing through a loudspeaker so the audience hears it (and your opponents song)? Also, thanks for answering a question I forgot to ask. tongue We are all doing this for fame/fortune then? Any sort of backstory to the Stadium?

Okay, yeah. Clarifications. The music is in your sub dermal mp3 so that only you hear it. That way, only you are effected, and the wires don't get crossed, so to speak. The audience can listen to your music if they wish, piped into small speakers in the viewing areas, or whatever. Their choice. The music only affects you in the actual arena, whatever form it takes that round. So if you smash someone through a wall, and continue the fight in the hallways, you're down to your innate abilities. Also, many characters will be doing it for fame or fortune, others because they have no choice, others because they want to. For example that NPC I posted up above. He's doing it because he can see sound, and finds that this is a whole new way to enjoy the music he loves so dearly, and participates for the love of it. The Arena itself is basically an underground fighting arena, in which people place bets on whether you will win or lose, how quickly you will do it, etc.

Mmm, very nice. And I doubt they would be able to place bets, since it would promote attempts to rig the bouts.

  • Name: John Mann
  • Age: 20
  • Appearance: Bright Red T-shirt, plain jeans, fingerless gloves, auburn hair and green eyes.
  • Personality: Laid back and simple this man enjoys listening and playing music that most people have forgotten.
  • Weaponry: A Metal shield, used for both blocking and bashing.
  • Special Abilities: Historical music vision (By listening to his music from older eras, the arena becomes pitch black. However, those who listen and learn the type of music he is playing or have an above average knowledge of music in the past will be able to see in "black and white" vision. Those with extensive knowledge of near opera standards would be completely unaffected.
  • Preferred musical style: Country
  • Background(optional): Will be invented later

There we go.

He looks alright, but that ability is a given. That's exactly what the msic does. Amplitude, frequency, etc, affect your speed, power, etc. Other than that though, he's in. Oh, and OOC here. IC coming soon. I'll fix the formatting later today, too.

I'm giving in and joining this RP. I don't know if I can get enough songs, but I like the premise. Here we go:

  • Name: Denzel (Last Name unknown)
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: Lanky, bordering skeletal. He has red messy hair and is handsome. His battle uniform is a blue-sleeveless zipped shirt, black paints with zippers, and a purple bandanna around his mouth.
  • Personality: He is a loner and cynical, and a little of a stubborn jerk. He likes to observe others while hanging around, and insults them if they try to talk to him too much. However, he opens up to only a certain amount of people close to him, but he is almost never nice.
  • Weaponry: A switchknife.
  • Special Abilities: The music he plays creates forefield platforms that are created to the beat. He is able to jump on them, and use them to block attack. Also, the platforms can curve slightly at the edge or at the center. However, the faster the beat, the smaller the platforms, and the slower the beat, the larger the platforms.
  • Preferred musical style: Techno or pop music.
  • Background (optional): He's a long-time fighter, fighting since he was eight. No one knows why he does it. There are a lot of rumors, but it is said that one of his family memebers may be a fighter.

Oh, I'm going to edit my character a little bit, just a little of the appearence and maybe the backstory.

By the way, can I make it so that the sizes of the platforms vary based on the speed of the music? Fast music make tiny stepping stones, while slow music makes five-feet bases.

Sounds okay to me. Like, the quick beats would basically allow you to air run and double jump and stuff, while the bigger beats let you have something to fight on or something?
