Yeah, I'm more than happy to have some new players. Like I've said, we seem to have lost almost half our guys by now. Just throw up a profile!
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. There's not much 'something' to interrupt at the moment, I don't think.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. Is there some sort of list of characters I can consult to be sure I'm not duplicating someone's idea or something?
Also for some sort of inspiration, since I keep coming up with concepts that wouldn't really be suitable for this. Things that'd be better for a high fantasy adventure RPG or an anime of some kind.

Nobody will see through my disguise... this time...Right, right.
I'll... I'll get something up tomorrow. For now, I bid you good day. Or good night. Or good afternoon.
Blasted time zones.

"You have more than enough potential. So tell me what is the one wish that would make your soul gem shine." -Mitt Romney, probablyHum...a list of characters...Well, most of the profiles were posted before page 9 or so...but at least of the currently active players we have a musician pegasus, another musician, whose an empty-headed earth pony, a map-making unicorn, a watch maker unicorn, and a Mad Scientist / Ditzy Genius earth pony.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Hm. Is it okay if I post a list of ideas I've come up with and why I don't want to use them? (I'm up to 2.5 discarded ideas that I can actually remember.)
I ask because frankly, I'm sort of hoping I'll come across something that's not as big a problem as I think it is and someone will point it out.
Nobody will see through my disguise... this time...I'm gonna base my character on a dream I had a little while back.
...Yeah, I dreamed of My Little Pony. It happens when you watch over 12 episodes in one day.
What was the name again? Ah yes, Cyclone Black...
- - - - -
Name: Cyclone Black
Gender: Male
Appearance: The most prominent feature of Cyclone Black's body is his big wings. He was born with fairly big wings for a pony his size, and ever since he was born he's been complemented on how strong and magnificent they look. His skin is rather dark, though not as dark as his mane. His mane is pitch-black with the occasional dark blue stripes, and always has a rather ruffled look about it.
Cutie Mark: Wind gust
Breed: Pegasus
Job/Hobbies: N/A
Personality: Having been secluded from the rest of the world since birth, Cyclone Black doesn't know much about how the world works. He's therefore slightly naive, but at the same time has the posture of someone strong and proud. Also, because he has never truly had any friends, he's rather shy and finds it difficult to approach other ponies.
Ever since he was a young colt he has found something to be missing from his life, and he thirsts for purpose. Finding comfort in the beauty of nature, there is one thing in particular that he loves: The wind. To him, the wind symbolizes the freedom that he has longed for ever since he was a young pony.
Background: Cyclone Black was born to a noble-colt and a noble-filly of Northcloud. He was raised under strict circumstances and was never allowed to mingle with ponies of lower status then himself. Always, his playmates would be chosen by his parents, and it would always be the same stuck-up kind of pony.
Being home-schooled, he was taught about the world outside from a secluded library. Whenever he had classes he would lose himself within the books and dream of faraway places past the clouds and beyond the mountains.
As he grew up, the thirst for freedom grew stronger within him, and one day he left his home never to return again. He wished only to see the world he had been dreaming of for so long, and to find true friendship somewhere over the horizon.

Vir Sapit Qui Pauca LoquiturAlright, my rejected ideas so far are, in a rather brief summary to communicate the important points that make them interesting but also bad ideas:
- A pair of unicorn twins who have only one body between them; they timeshare the body, while the one not occupying it instead occupies a small doll, acting as the other's "pet". I discarded this one because it's more like something you might see in an anime.
- A member of a traveling group who was left behind. I came up with two versions of the idea, and decided against them for similar yet different reasons:
- First I thought of a pegasus who was a member of a traveling troupe of performers, but got left behind because of a screwed-up sense of the passage of time causing him to be perpetually late. Discarded because when I think of traveling performers, I automatically think of Trixie.
- Second I thought of a unicorn who was with a traveling group of salesponies, selling various "miracle products", who gave up because he was tired of life on the road, and of selling the not-quite-miraculous miracles when he knows it's possible to make miracle products that actually work. Discarded because of that last part; the ability to produce products that just can't quite be explained was going to be a major part of the character, but the characters you listed already include a Mad Scientist and this would basically be that, just slightly less so.

Nobody will see through my disguise... this time...I definitely think you're right about the first one feeling out of place here. The last two I don't see a real big problem with, though I'm actually partial to the second one - not sure about the 'miracle potion' thing, though. Maybe he just makes good, regular medicine, and had to up-sell all the time? We don't have a doctor yet.

Sounds pretty good to me!

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Well, that's what I meant by he had to upsell - as a traveler, it'd be pretty hard to advertise, so he had to beef up the product, as it were. Or something like that, I don't know.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Yeah, seems like it could work pretty well.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Hm. Okay. So, now to put it in the longer form, then.
Name: Mixwell Grayham
Type: Unicorn
Coat: Light gray
Mane: Dark gray
Cutie Mark: Beaker
A capable chemist who initially used his special talent only to help fleece ponies (metaphorically, as ponies do not have fleece) but has become aware of and keenly embarrassed by his amoral actions, to the point of becoming submissive or occasionally attempting to flee when confronted with guilt. To deal with this, he has taken up practicing legitimate medicine when he's not hawking phony goods under the watchful eyes of the rest of his little caravan. Generally of a polite, restrained manner. Has great difficulty dealing with distractions.
How's all that?
EDIT: I'm altering his personality description to place him in his final days as a conpony, if that's alright. If you'd rather I didn't, I can change it back. And would it be A Bad Thing to have a pony take homemade medication to improve his concentration?

Nobody will see through my disguise... this time...Seems alright to me. I don't really see any problem with the backstory change, either. It does seem similar to an earlier player we had, White Lie, but he seems to have gone off, so I don't think it's a problem.
And yeah, Trottingham was our little town.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Oh, he was sort of a a compulsive lier, not really a con artist per se, but he'd adopt a new persona in every town he went to, and run as soon as he was found out. Not really the same, but it's a non-issue at any rate.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Hm. Right now I'm holding off because another character is literally still being introduced. I'll bring in the caravan whenever it's evening or dawn in the RP. By the way, can anyone elaborate on the current policies regarding NPCs? Mixwell's fellow salesponies are important to his introduction but not beyond, they're not very big parts and I can probably work around not having them there if necessary, I dunno, can I play them myself, should I hand them off to the current GM, are they just altogether not on the table or what?

Nobody will see through my disguise... this time...We don't have a GM to speak of, so I'd just say offhand that you can play them as for as needs be - Square Root's guy played an NPC for a bit just now, and our current plotline had an NPC being played by another guy. So yeah, use them as you need to, I suppose. Just don't be getting ginat, three page posts of back-and forths between NPC's and your guy.
