The Cat Knows Where It's At
#1: Feb 25th 2011 at 6:38:26 PM

Thirty years after the defeat of The Forgotten One, all was at piece. The orks had been driven from both Feldenstein and Samaria and the two powers had almost completely recovered.

The great Joshua Harthborn’s team, after making an honorary grave for their leader and friend, had decided to split up. Maxwell Hunter returned to Feldenstein to help rebuild after hiding the airship on a remote island. He was quickly offered the position of General in the Royal Army and he accepted just as quickly.

Jessica Marnel also returned to Feldenstein. Using her knowledge of the airship, she went on to invent one man flying machines called Rheairds. She also took a sample of what was powering the cannons and, after a lot of trial an error, managed to make a similar substance. She then went on to use that substance, dubbed “black powder”, to create hand cannons called “nosmiko” (from the Ancient Language, means “midcannon”). Though some people, not liking that name, have taken to calling them “flintlock pistols”.

This RP takes place in the original world created for my series of books collectively called Journey for the World. Though the title says "Valeun" (pronounced Vahl-eh-uhn) the plot will inevitably lead to Zeal, Maweyla (Mah-way-luh), and several islands.

Synopsis

Valeun had been at peace for thirty years after The Liberation War but now new threats slowly make themselves known as many towns in both Feldenstein and Sameria are destroyed and raided almost simultaneously. Now a new band of heroes rise up to face the challenge with some help from the Heroes of Liberation. Their journey will take them around the globe as they uncover conspiracies, unravel age old mysteries, and fight to stop the world from being plunged into eternal darkness.

     Races
  • Blood Elves: Always Chaotic Evil. Very egotistical. Blood Elves, through a somewhat rare genetic disorder, can have purple skin. Said disorder makes their skin seem to burn when exposed to UV rays.
  • Dryads: Always love nature (duh). Mostly female though males exist. Can use very powerful nature based magic (especially when they get a hold of whatever allows them to travel more freely). Tend to dress in greens and browns.
  • Half-Elves: Can either chose to be more like an elf and have immortality or not. They take characteristics from whatever type of elf was in the relationship.
  • High Elves: Basically Blood Elves that aren't always chaotic evil. Very egotistical and consider themselves better than everyone else. Usually kill or deny any Half-Elves born from them.
  • Wood Elves: Laid back. More in tune with nature. Most likely to mate with humans.
  • Humans
  • Naiads: Like dryads. Tend to dress in blues.
  • Orks: Are judged as Always Chaotic Evil and being ignorant brutes. Not always true.

Also, you can opt to be a Dragonoid (half human, half dragon). Those are rare and are shunned by society as a whole (although there are many places where they aren't thanks to the efforts of a dragonoid character from the spinoff series that runs parallel [and intersects with] with the main series). They can breath fire, have claws, can eventually sprout wings, and have a more dragon-like form that makes them more feral but makes them much more powerful. Dragonoids are only off springs of Malor Dragons. In their normal form: Fangs, slitted eyes (like a cat), rough-ish skin, red and gray are common eye colors, and they have rough tongues. In their dragon-like form: Scale-like skin, fangs become more pronounced, body becomes more muscular, claws form on their fingers and toes. Their scales generally are the same color as their parents (and usually, but not always, their eyes). Their parents can be pretty any color.

There are also three types of dragons (Eastern, Western, and Middle).

Synin Dragons (Western): Large brutes that are very strong but somewhat slow. Very hard to kill.

Tallon Dragons (Eastern): Wingless, long, slender, and very fast. Easiest to kill of the three.

Malor Dragons: Middle of the road. They're the most intelligent, can use magic, and can speak telepathically. You can theoretically have one as a character, but since they would probably be much more powerful than the rest of the party, the chances of me letting one pass are very slim.

     Possible Affiliates
You can be affiliated with multiple groups and you can create your own.

  • The Assassin's Guild
    • The Thieve's Guild
  • The Elven Empire
  • The Mages Association of Sameria (all mages born in Sameria are apart of this by default)
  • The Warrior's Guild

Magic
It can be either Arcane, Telepathic, or Both

Levels of Magic and Telepathy

Mages and telepathists are categorized into three different levels*

. Naturally, the higher one is on the scale, the more powerful they are. It is entirely possible to move up and down the scale with the use of charms but that will be explained later. Your position is dictated by how well you can manipulate mana (mages) or read thoughts/emotions (telepathist).

     Mages:

Magicians (Basic) can only cast a the most basic of spells. These spells are as follows: Fireball, Cancel, Cure, Heal, Rock Wall, Barrier, Haste, Slow, and Strengthen.

Spell Weavers (Intermediate) can cast every quick draw spell. Some can even cast some simple normal spells. Those who can also use normal telepathy can rarely go beyond this. Some can get halfway between a Spell Weaver and a Mystic though.

Mystics (Master) can cast any type of spell.

     Telepathists:

NOTE ON TELEPATHY: The telepathist must be able to see the person in order to read their thoughts.

Empaths (Basic) can read the emotions of a maximum of three people. They can also send their emotions to one other. Most likely to create a bond with another telepathist.

Mind Reader (Intermediate) can hear the thoughts of up to ten people in a 10 meter (~32 feet) radius if they focus. They can hear the thoughts of one person in a 15 feet radius without effort. They can also send their thoughts to one other person in that same radius. Most people who can use both normal telepathy and magic usually can't go beyond this level. Some are somewhere between this and Psychic however. They can also give suggestions to others. This is taboo though.

Psychics (Master) can hear the thoughts of up to thirty people in a 25 meter (~82 feet) radius if they focus. They can hear the thoughts of five people in a 10 meter radius without effort. They can also send their thoughts to five people. They can also control one person. This is illegal.

     Magic Items

All magical items are simply spells that have been woven into something. As such, they are fairly common (with a few exceptions). However, enchantments like one that sets your blade on fire must get mana from somewhere. That place is usually the person wielding it.

Magic Boost LV 1 is one of the most common charms. When given to a Magician, they gain powers similar to a Spell Weaver, Spell Weavers get powers similar to a Mystic, and Mystics just become more powerful.

Magic Boost LV 2 is much rarer and very few know of them. Magicians get the powers of a Mystic, Spells Weavers get the power of a LV 1 boosted Mystic, and Mystics become much, much more powerful. Both Magic Boosters increase the power of one's spells.

Mana Limiter LV 1/2/3/4 is rare but most people know of them. They limit the ability to let mana flow into a person. Level 1 can make non-mages completely invisible as it halts all incoming mana flow, Level two does the same for Magicians, three for Spell Weavers, and four for Mystics. Unless you are a human or Dragonoid (with a human parent), blocking the flow of mana into you is a bad idea.

Seeing Stones are just what you'd expect. A clear, white stone imbued with a scrying spell. With telepathy or the proper spell, one can even use it to talk to said person.

Beacon Stones are stones that have been imbued with the Anchor spell. The more mana that is put into the stone, the farther away one can be while still being able to egress to it.

Magical Artifacts are old weapons, armor, or jewelry that has been enchanted. The only thing that makes most of them special is that they're old although some are imbued with spells that are difficult to do so with.

Magic is governed by incantations one says in its language. The Ancient Language isn't a necessity, it is there to help one focus in order to not cause devastation to your surroundings. Magic is divided into two sections: Quick Draw and Complex. Mages also have a key phrase they use in order to cast magic.

     Ancient Language
  • English | Magic Language
  • Fireball | Nikayo
  • Heal | Alosu
  • Cure | Zonako
  • Cloak | Vekonul
  • Ice Needles | Venox

  • Egress | Rakono
  • Anchor* | Zukinal
  • Rock Wall | Felto Nes
  • Cyclone | Nekosu
  • Up | Sude
  • = (used to allow someone to Egress to that point)

Complex magic is cast by saying phrases or sentences in the language. One has to be careful and exact with both wording and intentions so the spell does what you want it to. The words I currently have are:

Rules

  • If a suffix begins with a constant and the root word ends in one, drop the constant in the root word and add the suffix.

Arcane is what's described. Telepaths can read anyone's mind from about fifty feet away if their a master at it. They can also talk to people that way. You can block one by simply focusing on one object like your shoe.

Arcane mages can use telepathy as well but it requires magic phrases and knowing the persons full name to work. It also takes up more energy.

People who can use both aren't as powerful as either.

Name: Heiderg Edwein

Age: 22

Race: Half Elf, from a Human Mother and a Blood Elf father

Gender: male

Affiliation: Mages of Sameria, specifically a faction which controls a lot of the association, Armagest.

Appearance: a tall, White-Haired Pretty Boy, some light red at the ends of his hair, darker red eyes, and usually wears a white, black and red robe with two skull shoulder guards, purple and black metal gauntlets with four red orbs inlaid in each gauntlet at the front.

Magic: He specializes in Arcane Magic, and mainly concentrates on darkness magic, ice magic and the creation of Homunculi, sociopathic servants who do his bidding, or face disintegration.

Weapons: a single large sickle

Armor: Those robes have steel woven in as well, making him a difficult enemy to hurt.

Personality: He is usually Affably Evil, though when he is having WAAAAY too much fun, he goes to Evilly Affable. He is secretive, vague, and a Nietzsche Wannabe who argues life has no real meaning to it, unless you make one for it. And humans are objects, who are prone to becoming inanimate, thus "we must possess as many things as we possibly can..." He is a drama queen, using stage terms whenever something is going to happen.

Backstory: The son of a Blood Elf and a human woman, it was inferred he was created by rape. He has since killed everyone involved in his past using his Homunculi disguised as Assassin's Guild members, and made himself a powerful man in the Mages Association. He has a lot of people in debt to him, and boy is he eager to collect, and he even has a spell he himself created to cause pain to anyone whose blood he has collected. He is an egotist, but also a planner and schemer. He has a Xanatos Roulette or a hundred in the works, each of them custom designed to make certain people do as he expects.

  • Name: Clavin (Last name to come later)

  • Age: 21

  • Race: Wood Elf

  • Gender: Male

  • Affiliation: He doesn't really have one.

  • Appearance: Very GREEN. He dresses in green and brown, usually pretty simple wear. He has bright green eyes and brown hair, but he dyed a strip of it green. Tall, thin, generally relaxed about everything he does. Has huge hands. Just random fact.

  • Magic: Arcane, Quick Draw—He can't be bothered to learn long phrases or the grammar.

  • Weapons: He's got a funny curved short sword that has a decorated hilt that has green plant vines all over it. Also has a staff slung across his back that he uses more often, cuz sword-fighting takes more effort.

  • Armor: Leather if he wears any at all.

  • Personality: Affable and laid-back. Tends to prefer resting under a tree thinking about things then actually fighting. His fighting style is lazy too, mostly involving using an opponent's attacks against them. He's a happy person, but it's a lazy-contentedness happy. He loves to laugh and he loves nature.

  • Backstory: Grew up in a forest, lives there relaxed by himself. I might do more later, but there's not much to tell for now.

Thank you for curing me of my ridiculous obsession with love!

Lawful: Accepted.

Nick: The first one can be accepted with some changes. The second is rejected because A: no royalty PCs B: Zeal, due to events in the books, is a Theocracy and C: I'm not fond of characters being evil for the sake of being evil.

As for the first character, given how obvious his being evil would be, he wouldn't be allowed in the Assassin's Guild. The Grand Master is one of the heroes from the books.

Name: Tharivol Nailo

Age: 17

Race: Blood Elf

Gender: Male

Affiliation: None as yet

Appearance: Tall, medium build, White hair, different colored eyes, one red and one green, noble clothes, always has his flintlock with him, proudly displayed in its holster. Flowing black cape

Magic: Arcane, and just enough telepathic to get general feelings across.

Weapons: Saber, Gleaming black flintlock pistol

Armor: His clothes seem to emphasise style over protection. And in truth, they do. However, he's not a fool. He wears enchanted leather armor beneath his clothes.

Personality: Affably evil, minus the evil part. He's friendly and polite, doing his best to befriend people and gain favors he can later call for. He's a magnificent bastard if ever there was one, using people for his own goals. A bit of an egotist.

Backstory: Born into a wealthy family on one of the outlying islands, he is currently betrothed to the princess there. He never much liked that. Not the princess, or the family he was to marry into, but that he had no say in the matter.

He had always been an expert marksman, and swordplay came easily to him as well. His talent for magic developed when he was ten. Being able to use magic, fence brilliantly, and shoot like none before, his family was very proud, giving him anything they could.

The princess he is engaged to marry is a High Elf, wise beyond her years. She is about 7 months older than him, and slightly shorter. She has beautifull green eyes and long black hair. She did not like the arranged marriage either, but decided to go though with it out of a sense of duty to her loving parents. She was an average shot, a capable swordswoman, and an excelent magic user. Whether by chane, or by fate, however, she, like he, had the same, limited telepathic abilities.

The princess first met him at the age of fifteen, during the winter festival, an annual celebration of the ascent to spring, taking place on the solstice each year. They were introduced formally, before being told to join the celebration. That night, the longest night of the year, was the night Tharivol's heart learned to beat for a second purpose, one other than the sustainance of his life. In those short hours, he felt himself change; felt a connection the likes of which he had never felt before. Their telepathy allowed raw emotion to travel between them, without the interference of thought. And through that, each of them knew the other as well as they knew themselves. Feeling the sort of empathy that only two being bonded by pure emotion could, they fell in love. Not a firey, burning type, but a deep, quiet love, a kind never felt before, for only two of their kind could share it, and only two of their kind could accept it.

He left his island out of a desire to see the world, but with every intention of returning. His love and he spoke in words to one another for only the second time the day he left.

"Farewell"

That was the only word that escaped her lips. That one word is what has carried him thus far, and his promise to her: He swore to himself, and to her, that he would return in time for her eighteenth birthday, and that on that day, he would kneel before her to accept her hand. He has two more months to keep that promise... And he intends to.

Why do others fear the dark? The darkness is kind. You don't see your end coming, and don't have to know until it's happened.

Very nice. Accepted. Let's hope their relationship doesn't end up as tragic as Joshua and Hakoda's.

Also, the outlying islands of where? Sameria (which does have the mostly self-governed Kelton Isles)? Feldenstein? Falhanor? Zeal? Maweyla?

I did have a very incomplete world map at one point in time but I lost the original and I no longer have the crappy picture I took.

That was random. Since I don't feel right about accepting my own characters, would you care to?

Name: Rachel Elizabeth Dare

Age: 20

Race: Dragonoid

Gender: Female

Affiliation: None

Appearance: Shoulder length black hair, sapphire blue eyes and scales when in her dragon-like form. Fair, if rough, skin when not. Surprisingly soft voice.

She wears a long, dark blue, dress like clothing that is made from a soft but sturdy fabric. It reaches down to just above her ankles and from just below her waist to the end it is split into two sections going down the sides. The edge where the "dress" is split is lined with brown leather. She also wears an equally as dark slip to cover her legs.

In the chest area there are black material making several patterns that extend to the stomach area. There is also a similar gold fabric that runs down her arms, again making several patterns.

Magic: Telepathy

Weapons: Claws and a long sword.

Armor: Scales as well as a enchanted leather cuirass, fingerless gauntlets, and schynbalds.

Personality: Rachel is an outspoken girl. She seems to be shy about nothing and is never afraid to speak her mind. Due to living with her mother for many years of her life, Rachel hasn’t fully grasped certain tendencies of humans and elves. She’s only lived among humans for two years, and even though she has grown a lot, there are still things she has yet to learn. One of these thing just happens to be love.

Backstory: Rachel was born in Sameria to Jason Dare and Saphira. Her father, not knowing that woman was a dragon and had gotten pregnant, does not know she exits and she only knows about him through some stories her mother has told her.

Due to being half-dragon, Rachel had the powers of telepathy. Thanks to that, she picked up Valenian much faster than most children did. However, she didn’t start speaking until much later due to not having the need too.

She lived with her mother most of her life. There were times when they’d go into the nearby village and Saphira would teach her some of the things she knew about human culture and to get her clothing but that was rare at best.

Around the age of ten, Saphira started sending Rachel into town to learn how to fight with a sword and to learn more about human culture. Several times she questioned why she had to do this when she could hunt perfectly well with her fangs and claws and every time her mother would answer that she’d have to join their society one day. She would need these skills.

Many times throughout the years, Rachel tried to get her wings to sprout as that is usually the sign that they have matured. Though she got close on several occasions she never managed to. Even though that sign never came, when she was eighteen Saphira sent her on her way to live with the humans and elves.

Rachel traveled a lot. Never really found a place she felt like settling down in as she was always fascinated with the world. To this day, she still travels from town to town, exploring the land.

Three heroes (one of which probably won't be much help at first and is probably in Maweyla) and a villain. Once a friend of mine gets known and posts his character, the RP will probably start.

Also, I might create a mage eventually. I like mages and I like my magic system since, assuming you know every word and have infinite mana, the only thing inhibiting you is your imagination (although, you can't bring the dead back to life [you can animate a corpse but you can't bring the soul back]). I also tend to use literal Full-Contact Magic.

Name: Naoto Yukise

Age: 19

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Affiliation: Warriors Guild, a particular faction called the Seiryu Warriors, devoted to an ancient dragon.

Appearance: He gives off the vibe of The Hero, and he certainly looks handsome, a blond haired blue-green eyed Bishonen and he looks like he is always smiling, and he has the most sincere eyes...except at certain times, when he shows a coldness in his eyes that is indicative of his real role in events. He has a toned, muscular body and a single scar across his back. He usually wears a white cotton shirt, comfortable, sewn pants, and boots, and some shining white armor, giving him the gleaming appearance of a Knight in Shining Armor...

Magic: Both. He is a formidable caster in his own right.

Weapons: a single long sword and a small buckler shield.

Armor: his shining white armor, think Griffith after his rebirth into Midland.

Personality: Oh, he is such a Nice Guy, nice, decent, always polite, a bit of a tease and a funny guy, but you would never expect out of him the sheer manipulative, chessmaster behavior he has been known to exhibit. He will deliver an ultimatum in that same, calm, smiling appearance and his composure is cool and never on edge. He hates the secret slave trade, due to his Dark and Troubled Past, and has made an effort to erase the slave trade as a whole. However, his more secret ambitions are far less noble: he desires to become an everlasting king over the lands, and thus fulfill the expectations of his noble mother.

He knows he is a very attractive man, and thus uses his charms to put women under his spell. His mindset is "War, Sex, Power, Make Mom Proud." Man on Man is okay with him too. He admits he likes the taste of power.

Backstory: He was once the child of a very rich family, until some bandits took him from his family in sheer spite, and then sold him off as a slave to a depraved bisexual. Naoto was a slave for five long years, and then he escaped after he found he had a natural talent with a sword, using only a long knife to dispatch his master, who used a sword. He personally razed his owner's whole group into dust, after convincing a faction which disliked his master to revolt with a Hannibal Lecture. Following this, he took some time to refine himself and he learned potent magic in Sameria from a friend of Heiderg. He then joined the Warrior's Guild, becoming the leader of a barely capable faction which had been low on numbers, and he betrayed, killed, seduced and blackmailed his way through the guild until he was the leader in the shadows, having to be consulted with everything before the Warrior's Guild did anything.

He has shown a willingness to kick any dog that gets in his way, but he always makes sure to show that smiling face when dealing with everyone. Yes, even when he is possibly committing a Moral Event Horizon, he will not stop smiling.
